Good soundtrack and great job from Boyle working with such a foreign culture, crew and story.

What is it with Boyle and his protagonists falling into shit? :what

Love the credits, the Bollywood dance is hilarious. Nice lighthearted way to end the movie and a tip of the hat to Bollywood.

The cinematography in this movie was incredible! Also the soundtrack couldn't have been better selected. Definitely a great movie I would recommend seeing!

Saw this movie tonight!

Incredible story, absolutely incredible...Genius! From beginning to end, this movie didn't disappoint for one second!

Definitely one of the best movies that I have seen in the past year. Way [U]WAY[/U] better than the Benjamin Button, this movie [B]deserves[/B] best motion picture.

hate to be the voice of decent...this was quite good. but i think its being a bit overhyped.

i'd still say dark knight should win best picture, but the bloody academy didn't bother to nominate it.

Very good movie, with some great sound tracks.

Many people throughout the world are doing it really hard and movies like this one, make me feel extremely fortunate for everything I have.

A movie filled with tragedy and hope.

it was good but i wouldn't say it was best of anything to be honest ... i felt it was more like introduction 101 into bollywood films for the english speaking audience without the 2 hour song and dance routine

The acting was weak and the story was ok at best.. I liked the overall message of hope though.

I believe this movie is getting so much hype because the US is shopping for allies against Pakistan and India is the obvious answer. That is the only reason this movie is winning Oscars IMO

The overall message wasn't about hope. There's several reasons why this got oscars. It's message was a bomb to indians everywhere, and rightly so. It put into light how truly evil indians can be to their own people. It showed how much the caste system still prevails in india. And it shows even more how difficult it is for people of the lower class/lower caste system to be able to prevail in a semi-draconion society like the one that currently exists in India. It did what no bollywood movie has done and that is show the dark side of india. It's a clear message to start cleaning up their act if they want to move forward as a society.

If the slums in question are the ones I am thinking of, Mumbai will never be able to get rid of Dharavi (the largest slums in Asia). They have the largest export of leather that is sold out of bombay, massive connections to the underground (thereby far reaching influence in the Political ranks) and the Maharashtra Govt. simply doesn't have the resources to house the population of people who will get displaced from that area if they try any of that.

Imo there is no where that slum is going in the foreseeable future.

As with so many unfortunate things that happen in third-world countries, that is an unfortunate part of bombay which is there to stay (GOD I hate calling it Mumbai, fucking politicians and their 2 bid worthless agendas)

As was visible in Slumdog Millionaire, Dharavi has a very poor sewage system and water supply.

It is estimated that the town contains one lavatory for every 1,400 residents. A local river, Mahim Creek, is widely used by local residents instead, leading to the regular spread of infectious diseases. During monsoon season, streets regularly flood with human waste.

Considering it was European made and financed, your point is a massive fail.

Fox Searchlight's involvement was only for distribution. So maybe you should do your research before posting outrageous conspiracy theories.

:roll: This dude needs a reality check. Although I have learnt never to say never, it was hard for me to swallow that this particular dream will come true. Back in the early 90's, now deceased PM Rajiv Gandhi tried the same thing. They developed these huge complexes of apartment right across the street from Dharavi.

What happened next?

The slum dwellers returned to their houses in Dharavi and rented away their newly inherited apartments to make money off of them. More than living in a slum, its a type of psychology that's seemingly ingrained when several prior generations have lived through the type of lifestyle you get, when living in slums. It differs from person to person but as evident from past events, majority of that population seem to be affected by it.

Afar from the obvious cleanliness and health hazards, the close knit relations and social structures that people formulate and get used to, cannot be replaced imo.

As far as destroying these slums to make sky-rises, these fancy dreams that these architects envision lack way more "reality" than anything.

What are you talking about? Jindal has been around for quite some time. He was given the opportunity to be McCain's running mate. Republicans see him as the next potential republican president. That's been about 2 years in the works. You're drawing conclusions out of thin air.

I draw conclusions from patterns. A pattern of events will lead you to a conclusion. The conclusion being that the US needs India really bad right now. That is why they are getting all the great press.

A conspiracy theory would be me saying that Obama will bring the world together because NASA claims that we are being attacked by aliens forcing the world to work together against the aliens. That is a conspiracy theory. Making notes of how many times India has been in the news over the last few months is a pattern.
