I've heard mixed reviews on this movie. A lot of people told me it was boring and predictable. I'll wait for dvd to dload it.

Re: cloverfield / 1-18-08

I haven't been this "Wow'd" by a movie in a long time!!

The special effects, the monster, everything in my opinion was absolutely incredible.

I was actually laughing at some parts because I couldn't believe how freaking real it all looked.

Like they've said above though, if you've got a weak stomach, you seriously may want to take some drammamine or something before the show.

Very impressed, probably going to go see it again tomorrow!!!

according to JJ Abrams:
it was a satellite which fell from the sky, which woke the monster, causing it to destroy the oil tanker as it made its way on shore

Calling shenanigans, can't find an official source for his statement:
Source from: http://www.cloverfieldendingcredits.com -
The Japanese oil company TAGRUATO drops a satellite (Chimpanz III) into the ocean as part of viral marketing (shown at the end of the movie when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel). TAGRUATO works with SLUSHO (a slush company), as the main ingredient for SLUSHO is found at the satellite dropzone (deep ocean). While searching for satellite and ingredients, they woke Cloverfield (the monster).

The main ingredient of Slusho apparently turns a tiny fish into a HUGE whale, which explains the size of Cloverfield.

Rob apparently was going to be the Vice President of TAGRUATO in Japan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTrdoyvmisY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YPiDENcDc

Watched this tonight and quite liked it... I honestly thought I would hate it as I thought it would be a Godzilla re-run...pleasantly surprised.

Re: cloverfield / 1-18-08

watched this a couple of nights ago..... I didn't see the satellite thingamagig that adam mentioned. I for one didn't fancy the movie too much. I felt "confused" about the genre this movie is trying to fit into i.e. was it meant to be a horror ? a love story ? ...... They barely show much of the monster (other than the shot in the end where the dude becomes breakfast) and the absolute randomness with which the attacks begin and the way the movie ended was just too obscure for my taste.

4/10 from me

Re: cloverfield / 1-18-08

^^^^^^I think thats why I liked the movie because of the randomness and the view of coming only from the 5-6 people and from their perspective... I dont think it would have worked for me if it was your typical monster movie

I'm down for obscurity and randomness too but not the mullholland drive kinda obscurity and randomness

Re: cloverfield / 1-18-08

Saw it this past weekend. I don't see what's spectacular. There was no development in the presence of the monster. The fact that the guy went back to get his girl, even after his brother died, was idiotic and just not believable. Maybe JJ can pull something out of his ass with the Startreck movie.

that is one of the major gripes about this movie... the problem, however, is that this complaint comes from people who dont understand the movie to begin with.

IT IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE NOT THE MONSTER.

the way the movie is shot, is pretty original... the camera guy is named HUD, which stands for Heads-Up Display in the video game world.. pretty ingenious.

the part about him going back for his girl is pretty believable in my book. if you had a girl friend that you have known and had a crush on pretty much your whole life, you would go back for her. in that situation, you are going to regret not going back for her for the rest of ur life.

again, IT IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE NOT THE MONSTER.
