since the WIre returns to HBO on Sept. 10 I thought I would prod the community to see if anyone else was as hooked on this show as i am. i started watching back in season one and now season four is upon us.

this show is tops for me for so many reasons. first of all it is very real. this show sugarcoats nothing with glitzy entertainment. the acting is unreal. the writing and dialogue are amazing. both the original creators of this show live and work in Baltimore. one brought the political knowledge from his years as an editor for the Baltimore Sun. the other was a Baltimore detective for years. some of the actors on the show were actually put in jail by the creator!

i could go on and on but i digress. let me say how sad i was to see stringer bell go down in season 3. my two favorites have always been stringer and bodie.

lastly did anyone see the two behind the scenes shows that aired lasty week?

they had former mayors, attorneys, councilmen, social workers etc. all talking about how this show reveals to us the real underclass of society and how closely linked it is to the upper powers of our inner cities. i really can't say enough about this show. if you have never seen it go and rent season one and you will get hooked through its realism and no holds barred approach this monstrosity of a poverty line that our country has created.

Best show on TV imo. I have been watching it religiously since the first episode of season 1. I have never seen anything like this on TV.

McNulty seems to have changed to much, i hope he goes back to his ways, but he seems pretty settled in.

i'll check and see if it's on HBO on demand. should be there, they have all running shows on. HBO on demand is the best value for a buck. 4.95 a month, watch anything on HBO all day

the new season is on on demand, new episodes every monday (6 days before it airs)

seasons 1-3, you'll have to rent the dvd

yeah eventually i'll burn them all. next season will be the last and apparantly will focus (like season 4 did on schools) on the press. and mcnulty will have a major role! of course, it will be a while before its back on... unfortunately - but at least i have the shield to satisfy my "awesome cop show" fix

last season was phenomenal! at first i was hesitant about following the lives of four kids but they grew on me and I also learned how dire the lives of kids in communities such as Baltimore can be. Can't wait for the last season!

So after I finish watching seasons 1-7 of the shield since i have lagged behind on that show, im watching this one next.

im looking forward to it as i hear this show is the bomb.

Saw season 1 ... but they didn't screen any more over here on (non-cable) tv.

Thought it was good .. but The Shield is far better.

finally watching this. def going to watch the whole series before i watch anything else next. currently starting season two. i enjoyed season 1, can't wait to see what all happens.

Great show indeed. Only season I didn't totally get into was number 2. I like the mean streets better than the ports. I think 3-4 were my favorite. Wish it was still on air. Has quite the cult following now and would probably garner better reviews.

Easily my favorite series ever on tv. A strong statement above the classics but got hooked after I got HBO and saw it on demand. Watched it all in like 2 weeks and the characters are great. Omar is a bad ass & Mcnulty's character is hilarious. Was gutted when after last episode.

Watched seasons one to five in about two weeks pretty much none stop about 4 months ago.

Doubt there will be a tv series like it that I can compare (shield maybe?).

Outstanding and strangely I enjoyed the port season the best.

And Omar is one badassed mofo!

Im only about halfway thru season 3 sofar, but i loved stringers speech about 40 degree days, that was pretty good. there have been some great lines from this show sofar, i have caught myself laughing my ass off at some of the stuff people say on this show.

i think a lot of it was based in reality that the creator saw during his time as a crime reporter in Baltimore. I dunno about the pager stuff being real though. I love that show....

This is probably my favorite show of all time. :D It just feels so realistic and the plot is amazing. Season 3 and 4 are my favorites.

interesting comments on season 2.

I thought it was the weakest season of all 5, but on second viewing, i think it may have been the best (next to season 4). They're all strong though.

was at dinner last night and we randomly got on the topic of this show. strange how so many people love this.

if you're having any continuing withdrawal (like I am! even months after watching it) then I recommend checking out Homicide: Life on the Streets. It's filmed by the same director and is set in Baltimore with some of the characters who later showed up in the Wire (which was filmed a few years later).

^I'll definitely check out the Homicide series you referenced.

I've also heard that prior to The Wire HBO produced a miniseries called The Corner that served as the the motivation for The Wire to actually get into production.

Its easy to watch the second time for me as i remember characters and certain scenes so I am pausing a lot to bring my girl up to speed. In doing that I have realised just how much info there is every 10 minutes to share with her

Another reason why The Wire is a great show. The cast are original gangsters from Baltimore. Hell the deacon is played by the REAL Little Melvin Williams...the most OG of them all from Bmore.
