Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

How the fuck does Digweed do something like this in 2 hours when all the recent EMs have been piss poor? The last 10 mins is absolutely killing me. Worthy of a commercial release.

This has to be EM of the year.

I <3 Digweed.

Here's the aac version from the bbc (it's 128k but imo the best quality except for a high quality FM rip....)

aac || 128 kbps || 1:58:44 || 110 MB

i could be wrong but i don't think encoding at 320k makes a difference, i think it's all down to the original stream

can't you just be happy with the mix as it is?

#1377656Post 53 of 212

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

Exactly, it's no use encoding this @ 320k. It only creates a larger file with the exact same quality. VBR was created for these purposes. The encoder thinks about what quality the specific sample should be before encoding it, so that as a human you wouldnt hear the difference between the encode and the original sample. Then on to the next sample exactly the same process is repeated. Complete silence for example you cant hear a difference in when it's encoded @ 32kbps or 320kbps. So silent parts get encoded at a lower bitrate (complete silence = 32kbps). All of this done to save space on your hd :)

That being said the source of these recordings are digital sat or cable which can be compared to an average flow of 160/192kbps tops. They CANT go higher! So if you made a 320kbps recording of this all you would have is the exact same recording just about twice as big :)

Aye! Someone's got their head screwed on ;)

The rips from digital radio and tv are a maximum of 192 kbps mp2 which subjectively lands somewhere between 128 and 160 mp3 as a raw stream and transcoding to mp3 will degrade the quality anyway. Very good FM can get much higher quality but as analogue it is hard to quantify especially as the beeb will probably do some in-house processing. Best to hope for is for JD to release his own copy :D

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

FM broadcasts are always limited to 15.5Khz or so lowpass. It has no sense to use 320k.

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

This EM is fucking quality, one of the best I've heard Diggers play. Slight correction to the tracklisting. Track 12 is Danilo Vigorito - Prima from the EP Primal Scream.

I can't see how people can complain about sound issues!! I'v gave this a listen and sound quality never popped in my head once. The only thing i was thinking was.....holy fuck!! this is an amazing mix!!

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

i got an FM quality mp3 rip. will up it here shortly... probably the best quality other than the master from JD himself.

#1377677Post 63 of 212

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

Please stop the nonsense about the sound quality issues (not again) and lossy audio in general (VBR joint stereo = Bad quality???), It's just another EM, it sounds ok for what it's supposed to be. If someone posted a lossless fm rip you'd still be complaining.

The one from TMB? Thank you for the tip, let's have a listen.

Re: John Digweed Radio 1's Essential Mix, May 29, 2010

FM rips will never be of higher than 15.5Khz quality no matter what capture device you use. Radios use limiters for it. Even 160k bitrate would be sufficient. I don't see anything wrong with the sound quality of the posted scene release, there are actually 2 of them (one is internal).

well people wanted other versions so i uploaded a different version. if everyone agrees on one being better than the other, go with it and remove the others... at least that is what i would do.
