This has got to be one of the most confusing sets ever. I don't think anyone really knows if they are all from the some gig, or they are loads of different sets bodged together. They have been released in different guises with different labels. Most of them being Simon's Independence Night, live at Twilo and Simon's Gainesville, Florida 26.5.96.From what Mark Hunt said some of the tapes from Simon's on Independence Night were stolen from the venue and its likely they are the ones that were put on to 2 cassettes and labeled live at Twilo and sold in a double cassette pack with the picture of the New York skyline on the cover. The others were sold as 2 double Cd's. One of which again was labeled live at Twilo with a picture of the New York skyline in blue on the cover and another without a picture. However the digweed discs are the same only one of them starts earlier than the other one and finishes earlier. A friend of mine sent me the cassette parts that someone has tried to put into some sort of order to try and make it less confusing. Which i have posted at the bottom of the page. I will try and post the CD versions sometime on the weekend. Its just a shame someone stole the tapes this could of been alot better

i mean to be honest i prefer sasha sets now from 96 sets.....even 99 sets....it took me a long time to leave the proggy trance sound behind but im loving the stuff out now more than i did then....as sasha said if you dont move forward you go stale.......

Insane 12 hours worth! Arrived around 3am...main room was absolutely rammed. I remember it was so hot that the walls were heaving with sweat. Me & the mates had to take some time in the loft to cool off for a bit. Definitely a unforgetable night.

God i miss that place, Its hard to explain the vibe that place had to anyone that has never been there, I had so many great times and drives home to Jacksonville the next day at 1-2 pm in the afternoon.:p

I actually found this site doing a google search for Sasha - Independence Night. I Had this on cassette ( remember those?) back in the day which was copied off of a friend who copied it from someone else. So the quality sucked, but a great set nonetheless. The tape was eaten about 10 years ago, so it has been since then that Ive heard it...till now. Holy shit it brings me back. Thanks so much for posting !!!!!

The copies I gave you were recorded from a tape deck that was connected to the system that night. Most of the other copies of this night that are floating around are from a DAT that mysteriously disappeared from a DAT player. There are probably sections on the tapes I gave you that very few have heard before.

This debate should end here. These recordings are from May 27, 1996 and they were recorded at Simon's in Gainesville, Florida for the annual Geminy Party. I was in the DJ booth most of the night and I was one of the last few people to leave the place at 10ish the next morning. i think I even have a picture of myself and Sasha from that night (not that that matters).

AND FINALLY, please chunky.. do as much research as you can and make sure you get the order right in order to finally put this set to rest... this is probably one of the most widely controversial set because there are so many different names floating around.

I sent Chunky a ton of old tapes similar in nature. The entire set that night was probably 12 hours long. Anyone who is claiming this is Independance night is wrong. I think whoever stole the DAT wanted it to appear to be the Independance set to throw off everyone who was trying to find out who stole the DAT (me as well by the way). JK

Sorry this is taking so long. Its a serious head fuck. I've almost got it sorted, I'm taking the day off work tomorrow so I can hopfully get it finished. I've had to do a bit of editing and sort a few things out. I have to convert the files to mp3 and upload them

This set is from Simon's in Gainesville. I was there during this set and I am friends with the people at Simon's including Joe C. Joe is the one introducing both these sets. The confusion comes from the labelling on the CD itself. It was sold in most shops in Orlando with that false label. If you listen to any other Simons mix sets you will clearly hear Joe's voice on the intros. Joe was not a resident at Firestone in Orlando and would have had no reason to grab the mic at that club and announce them. That would have been very akward. There are 2 songs on this set that I heard that night that I know was the first time I heard them at all. One is Allium - M.O.T. Hold Your Pillow which is the 2nd track on [url="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=5"]Sasha[/url]'s mix, I remember this because I asked [url="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=5"]Sasha[/url] what it was when he was playing it. The other is on John's set, DJ Inertia & Speedy - Hypnotica which I also asked about.
