I thought I would just post a MS Birthday thread. GYY has turned into nothing but a spam of birthdays, with thousands of users everyday will be someones birthday.
So here is the Megathread.
Happy Birthday Diegoff! Happy Birthday Hannu! Happy Birthday Funky Dredd! Happy Birthday Runningman! Happy Birthday Kamal! Happy Birthday Mariner! Happy Birthday Tom Tom! Happy Birthday Garrick!! haha etc.. etc.. etc..
So moderators can merge the threads now.

personally i like the personal touch of individual birthday threads.
a megathread just puts everyone in the same pot and detracts from the community aspect of this site.

I think this is an over reaction ... we don't always see the forum flooded with bday threads, only certain months ... I prefer individual threads.

Putting everyone in the same pot takes away choice. The birthday threads were definitely one of the bright spots for me.

Exactly. Why do we have to group them, that doesn't make sense.....what is wrong with someone having a personal thread? Why can't someone be recognized and celebrated on their special day?!
Moving them to a different part of the forum is ok, although I think they are more fitting for the GYY instead of the section they've been moved too (which is a section of the forum that people don't really visit, well I shouldn't speak for everyone, but I definitely don't go in that section all that often....1st time I've been in there since I started here I think)

If that is the highlight of MS for ya I don't know what to tell ya.. Politics has nothing to do with what is going on here. The times are changing remember.. Facebook them or whatever else you do with your friends.. This is the future.
Also how hard is it?? If you see it is someone's birthday then come in this thread... odds are the HB crap will already be flowing. If not start it for them.
I wasn't the reason the politics section was shut down.. I was the reason was anyone was even in there.. ;)..

Firstly, what you are trying to do is give yourself relevance .
The old guard as you call it are actually the MS community and one thing that the old guard did was make people welcome better than any forum I have ever been on. The old guard are the people who cared enough to stick around. Personally I would like to see many new members who hang around long enough to become a part of an old guard !! Do you really think people want to be told what they can discuss in GYY ?? Particularly by someone like you. ???
We do discuss music, but as a living breathing community we have other interests that we sometimes want to share with this community we have loved for years. We want also to discuss the ways that this forum is going, without being told to piss off to facebook. :lol:
I restore furniture and I always say good restoration makes something look like it has been treasured all it's life. This is what I would wish for this board. :)

Jesus fucking christ you guys.
Let's just have a Suggestions thread so RM and any other fella with ideas can throw it in there instead of starting a new thread like every birthday, though I do think birthday threads are nice and makes this place homely and welcoming. I think it's great that RM is trying to come up with ideas after pointing out what he felt the 'problem' is.
Look I've moderated forums in the past. One of the killers is over-moderating or organising a place. Things like creating sub forums, moving stuff into 'categorical' forums. Maybe to the regulars or the OCD it looks good cos the place is tidy and 'easy' to find. But trust me from a user-experience point of view, you DO NOT want new members having to dig through layers of sub forums to access something. The rule of thumb in information architecture: A user should never need more than 3 clicks to get to something.
And GYY IS meant to be a random place, that's why I and many of us start our day here. It's my HQ for whatever newsworth news that's been filtered by MS members and music and boobs and random shit.
Lastly, again this is something that came up with other forums. This place is only a democracy in that we get to voice our thoughts, but any forum-changing suggestions are ultimately left to the owner and admin's discretion to implement.

I realise that, but they pop up all the time and it's kind of annoying.
I just ignore them so at the end of the day I don't really care... but the fact there is a conversation about it is kind of stupid.

It can be an opportunity to let people know how much we appreciate them .
