You are completely ignoring the problem of inappropriate links.
Have you been reporting said inappropriate links to the mods for quite a while now with no response Didi?

Most importantly, this thread is a bit of a debacle because if anyone has a problem they can always contact a mod in private.

Pickle has been stepping Mercury Server's game up for the past several months via the dj database, which has been an awesome contribution as I am sure everyone would agree.

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

I have certainly brought it up in the forums, which I think is the appropriate place. See this is part of the problem, we should be able to openly discuss problems in the forums. It's not dirty little secrets to be handled behind closed doors

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

I think pretty much any dj set here is not innapropriate. If there are tons of dupes, then thats what mods are for, and if they aren't being merged to everyones satisfication, maybe some new ppl want to be mods eh?

I'd say 99% of the stuff in P+R I have no interest in, but I don't want that stuff to ever go away. I just starting listening to The Revenge just last year and went back thru the archives and downloaded everything I could find. A big archive of stuff which I never noticed before and which (one person may not like) has to be a good thing rather than a bad thing.

Also GarryX looks like most of his posts are from soundcloud(?) I don't think that site is any way used to monetize download links.

#1486235Post 124 of 241

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

Of course they are inappropriate if they are linking us to porn, not to mention that some are crappy radio rips ! Why would I want those when I can go to soundcloud and get something like this amazing Guy J set from Guy J himself. Soundcloud links are great!! I haven't found any reason to complain about GarryX in fact for me putting up Soundcloud links is a great way to it.

I have no problem with people making money if we get quality out of it. But we aren't.

I don't want stuff to go away , I just want it presented in the best way possible not crappy rips from very dubious links .

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

I haven't really been looking in p+r much at all lately is there a ton of porn/spam? Those stupid bots usually get banned pretty quickly from what I've seen of them if they post in other forums here.

Anything which isn't on fileplanet/soundcloud/megadownload/rapidshare etc I'd just skip if it were posted in there...

#1486258Post 128 of 241

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

obviously we need a bot that scraps URLs posted there and stuff them with MS's affiliate code to help pay server costs or whatever ;)

It would also be wicked if there was a way to subscribe to MS member mixes.

This.

How can anyone discover and follow great local talent if their posts are pushed back into obscurity by 50 posts about David Guetta?

No, but really, I see what you mean, searching by prefix... but I think the idea was to have a means of aggregating and listing and making available subscriptions to local talent, similar to DJ Database...

Like their own separate dj database? That's an interesting idea. Dj's that are a part of MS could be a part of the standard database as well as a separate database... or something to that affect.

#1486271Post 133 of 241

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

searches won't work because they're done by user session IIRC.

something like subscribe to all threads with that tag and then post the feed in the member home would do the trick

^^ exactly. Right now I am a part of that database, but it doesn't give a distinction in case a person was wondering if they were local or not. could be something interesting to implement or to have a secondary separate "locals" database...

Seems like that would be a pretty easy field to subscribe to, "ms members mixes", although I have no idea how to code so maybe it's more work than i'm thinking. Neat idea. Jenks subscribed artists, Butane, Dandy Jack, Akufen, "Ms Member Mixes". Is that what you mean?

You can't have it both ways John. You've been calling for this thread to be closed since it began though why, i've no idea. It's a valid discussion and perhaps long overdue. So either it's a debacle or it's throwing up interesting ideas - which is it?

I would agree, most definitely. But, do i see pickle's efforts as a reason to avoid discussion amongst members regarding how ms ticks? No, i don't.

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

I'd personally like to see MCast spruiked on mercuryserver.com more. Sure, you can visit the Mcast site but I for one don't regularly visit it and there's a heap of great music on there not getting exposed as much as it probably should. Also another differentiator to other sites and keeping it fresh.

Just my 2 cents anyway...

Mate, Adam asked on page 6 if anybody is willing to help with this...no response. It's not like our members ask for something and we do it on the same day/week. Having ideas is one thing, reserving and spending the time to make it happen is something completely different.

That's why we have an own forum where you see all new mixes that are posted on MCast:

http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?419-MCast-latest-sets

Also some of our Residents post headsups in p+r or GYY about it and on the very top is a direct link to MCast so it should be easy to stay up to date.

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

And to everybody thinking think their opinion is not important or goes by unnoticed...that's NOT the case. But please realize that when it is about topics like this, there is no solution available where everybody is happy with. So far I have seen complaints about it from maybe a dozen of the longtime members but we have received positive feedback as well. So if we go and tell the 3-4 mass uploaders to stop what they do, I am sure there will be more than a dozen members who will feel left behind and they will start complaining. For us, this is an ambivalent situation because we can NEVER do the right thing to make everybody happy.

And on a personal note, I can't remember to ever have seen more complaints than this Year and some of the complaints are imo blown out of proportion. As much as I try to have an open ear for them, I am also starting somehow to get sick of it. When I see members reacting aggressive towards Adam who has spent more time for Mercuryserver last and also this year than some of you spend at (paid) work or other members more or less warn us that they leave if we do not do what they say (I know that's a bit exaggerated), I get sad and angry at the same time.

Some of you don't feel appreciated enough? Welcome to our World! Maybe I have enough of all the complaints at some stage and shut the door behind me. I do this since some Years and still enjoy it but it's decreasing; especially if the majority of what I read these days is negative and the positive things we do or initiate go under. Maybe don't always expect us to sort all individual problems out and try to change your own attitude; like for example trying to also live with some elements on [ms] that are not 100% perfect for you. If it's any help, it is also not 100% perfect for me but you don't see me bitching lol. At least not in public. ;)

Re: The Way to Fix MS from Becoming Old

It was just a joke Tom. That is why I put the clip of Farva in there. With the three pages of back and forth going on I thought I would throw a joke in there.

I realize it isn't priority #1.. Shit I can start it I just don't know now to make it a sticky or even if I can.
