I find it funny that the job that spurred this whole topic was telemarketing. My first job was being a telemarketing sales representative. Shitty thing was...we sold credit cards...even worse, it was for Chevy Chase bank. Yes its true, there is a bank named Chevy Chase, which is no relation to the man himself, or Chase Manhattan. Turns out, it is named after the town that is based out of Chevy Chase, Maryland. I took a ton of crap working there. Hands down, worst job!

what's the worst job you've ever had?
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
Although the pay was good, my job as a camp counselor sucked. The reason is not so much that I didn't like the kids (ok it was) but that it was a camp that cost a lot of money, so these kids came from well-off families and affluent neighborhoods. The one thing I couldn't stand was if I ever fucked up or didn't allow a kid to do something so that I could keep order within the group, they'd threaten me by saying "My dad will sue you for all the money you got." God they're such pains in ass.
Worst job is any job that requires heavy lifting all day.
Couldn't agree more, I survived a week and then I had to take a month off to recover!
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
It was a summer job when I was a student...I worked in a food factory bending croissants, 8 hour shifts and a 5am start made that the dullest job. Oh I almost forgot I had to wear a charming blue hair net as well :?
Sold kutco, did not sell anything. Front desk donkey. And telemarketing part-time for know.
It was a company called DataWorks. $5 an hour, and all you did was stand up for your shift and assemble corporate manuals and the like. Cut paper, assemble 100 of the same manuals. Tedious crap work for crap pay. It did have one advantage though, there were a couple Jamaican's working there who would always have the rockinist of the rockin dank. And you had to be pretty blitzed to work there any way.
Besides, at the time I had two jobs so I just quit after maybe a month.
Sales jobs...
I sold CutCo Knives as well. They scammed me into buying one of their starter sets for $160 and gave me nothing us to work with. I had to come up with my own client base or go door to door! That sucked!
Same deal here...that's when I was pretty young and didn't know any better...boy I didn't last long there. But I have to admit those knives are very good..
Tried life insurance..busted my ass for 2 months finally passing the state test and getting my license (which I still have)...then 8 days into the actual "on-field training" I quit out...14+ hour days, non-stop, no wonder why many get burned out and have to leave the industry. Not worth it.
Last straw in sales was a job that actually was pretty easy...walked around neighborhoods all day selling simple coupon-like stuff to well-known shops and stores...problem was that I couldn't afford to live off of the up and down amounts I could make (or hardly any), as I needed a more steady paycheck, so that was gone as well within a week or so...I would have done good there too had I had enough backup to cover me in the early 2-3 month timeframe before getting "promoted."
Bottom line? Trust me, don't work sales unless you just have that right attitude and personality...deceit, trickery, you name it...to me, it's not worth the "potential" earnings.
And one another...Verizon Wireless as a 411 operator...blahhh...you had to fly on that job, it was over an hour away from my home and the pay flat-out sucked...what amazes me there were people who were with the company 15 years plus still doing that...talk about not having a life.
Has it ever occurred to you that when you have such a shitty paying job which is totally shitty in itself, you 'supervisor' or boss really acts as if it's a dreamjob he/she is having?
Managers @ McDonalds, my floormanager at the go-kart centre, and now my supervisors at the marketing research bureau...they all act the same. Not always putting you down, but really acting as if 'this is it'. I just think: See ya in a couple of years peepz, when I'm traveling the world and you're still stuck in there seeing your life slip away between your fingers...
^^^ yeah thats true, they act like you are so lucky to be working for the crumbs they are paying you. but hey a good manager is one who cares right?
i worked in a mcdonalds also for about 3 months , i fucking hated it, but at the time i had to do it...at least i was making a healthy 4.75 an hour for getting burnt behind the grill and sweating my balls off..... priceless ... i did get to eat a lot of ig macs... i would purposedly cook a few extras so i could eat them at the end of the night
my worst job? mmmmmmmmmmmm maybe when i was a dealer...fucking paranoid man!
Dudes, I read all about those $5,- an hour jobs...I got ?9,55 at my last one, and ?8,- at this one. Non-schooled jobs. And I'm already looking for a new one that will give about 10 per hour (I have 2 jobs, one does pay 10, but there's no work at this moment).
What is this? Do they really pay so bad out there?
I think because we are still young so all the money keeps with the older people
worst job...stacking boxes of mustard in a mustard plant.
best job I ever had was a courier job in college...had a company car that I was able to use for personal stuff...never reported to anyone except over the phone....but the main items of trasnport were pap smears...mmm...vagina juice!
lmfao. did you ever drink any?
well minimum wage got raised since ... i believe its 5.75 an hour... here in vegas hourly is a lot higher because of the union...so an average job in a casino is at least 8 bucks an hour ....
Gonna try and apply for one that does 11 an hour. Until I leave for Africa, and after that...who knows.
i worked for this cheapass jew that was lik 40 living with his mother, who was alot nicer than him. I was drawing fucking decals for him to output to the vinyl cutter. what a fucking waste, i quit after a week.
Being a host sucked balls too. I worked at California pizz kitchen as a host, and those fuckin ppl, cant even wait for lik 5 min without asking or forget it, i just learned that i coudl never again be a host, or a waitor.
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
working as a waitress at chilis, my general manager was so mean and inappropriate, all the little shit bosses slept with all the waitresses and gave them bartending shifts as rewards it was like working with the 4th grade, ppl were caddy and backstabbing and kiss ass.. evey job iv worked since then seemed like a dream job
to wash cows in a farm when i was a kid!!!
:(
id have to say mcdonalds as well. it wasnt bad at first, hot chicks and godo managers. then the good managers went away, one got fired cuz he was supposedly skimming money from the restaurant. then some arab guy came in, nobody liked him. he was a class asshole
-ddr
Why it always gotta be Arab?
cuz he was arab?
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
a steal heat-treating plant. raking red hot metal parts off a 1300 degree assembly line...
i used to wash dishes for this higher end busy resturaunt.. i didnt last a whole pay period for that..
but the worst job, when i was in high school was prolly pushing buggies for a supermarket.. downside, working in the heat, cold, rain, busy as hell sometimes for 8 hrs a day w/ a 30 min break for shiet money.. upside, worked like 5p-2a shifts, there aint shit going on round there after about 10.. so you just kinda hang out in the parking lot.. or go walk around inside & "act busy" by putting up all the crap that you decide you dont want when you are at the checkout..
the best easiest job.. LIFEGUARD for a private pool.. kinda chill easy going, except it turned into more of a neighborhood babysitting job. the rents would drop the chillins off that moring & go to work, only to leave then there ALL DAY LONNNNNGGGGGGGGG. oh & very few chicks graced this place.. unless it was mine. :Naughty:
I had a temporary food service job, once they sent me to The mall of America and I had to bus tables, and take out the trash in the entire amusement park section (camp snoopy).... worst shit ever, I told them that i was a dj, but they didnt care
mine was opeing envolps, boring as hell.
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
I made springs in a spring factory.
ps Hi
selling hot dogs on the streets of new york city, & getting yelled at by my boss for giving change out to tourist. the prick!
Picking tulips. That lasted about a week.
Re: what's the worst job you've ever had?
Waiting tables which i am still doing b/c i have no choice at the moment.. People can be so rude sometimes !!! Its like i am not making your food i am just taking yoru damn order!
Waiting tables at Joe's Crab Shack. Worst franchise ever. I lasted 8 days, dumped two trays, and had one family run out on a bill because the well done steaks they ordered didn't come out fast enough. Never again will I work with food.
i too waited tables (this guy has done everything you say, well im afraid i have) at olive garden (the one on 436 and 95 ska) i only did it for a couple of months... i fucking hated it ..the manager was a prick , the costumers were crappy and didn't tip...it sucked balls pretty much
I worked for 1 mounth at an big Computer Seller. I worked many many hours the day , get less money & it was no fun. Better no work than this s**t.
well,i usually choose a job for the money so the worst job i've ever done was to be a delivery girl for one year at a pizzeria.the winter was a difficult season for me.you see, riding the motorbike for 12 hours,6days per week with rain or snow it's not the best thing to do.the money was ok but i don't think that i will ever do this again.and the other job that i laugh now when i remember it,was cleaning a strip club.you cannot imagine what my eyes have seen.ofcourse now i work as an accountant,i never order pizza when the weather is bad,i always give good tips and i've never been to a strip club since 2000...

Gayest. Job. EVER!
The sad thing is it's my current job...but the money is alright so I guess I can't really complain.
is that why you got the metallic grill
I quit the shithole of a bank that I worked for. I reached my wit?s end, and I had to get those bitches when it hurt the most. Let me break it down for you:
There are normally 8 of us working in the branch. It usually takes all 8 people to make the branch run smoothly in any given day. Even having only 7 will fuck things up considerably. With that in mind, my manager saw fit to schedule 4 people off the week after christmas. THAT?S HALF THE FUCKING BRANCH!!!! As you can imagine, this didn?t sit too well with me.
However, I was the only one who saw fit to voice his opinions about it. Everybody else cowered like some little bitches. Of course, my manager wasn?t hearing it. He says that if he can tough it out for a week with half the folks gone, then we should be able to do it as well.
I knew it was bullshit, but I couldn?t say anything against it. I was just gonna make sure that he worked that week and didn?t hide in his office like a pussy, which he was likely to do. So life went on, and everything was cool in bank land.
The Monday before Christmas, my manager tells us that he has decided to schedule himself off that week because he ?hasn?t spent time with his family?. What? I wish a motherfucker would??.. So now we?re down to 3 people to run an 8-person branch, which will probably be busy as hell. I knew at that point that my days were numbered. Customer complaints against me were going to go through the roof that week because I REALLY would not give a fuck. I figured i?d work until the first week of January and quit.
My manager threw a wrench in the operation when he announced that Thursday that he would start his vacation early - that very day. Not only that, he picked the busiest time of the day to step out. I called him out on it, and he basically said that he could do whatever he wanted because he?s the manager. Aight bitch - I got your prerogative RIGHT HERE?.
On top of that, I realized that I would be working all week with the two people that i most dislike. I wasn?t gonna make. It was then and there that I decided that Friday (Christmas Eve) would be my last day. I just wasn?t gonna tell anybody.
So on Friday, December 24, 2004, I walked into work with a smile on my face. If anybody asked, I would say that it was the Christmas spirit. It wasn?t really busy that day; all we did was talk about how busy the next week would be and discussed strategies to maintain the flow of traffic. They made me the vault teller because the vault teller was on vacation the following week with everybody else. I alone had the combination to the mone vault, so if the bank ran low on money, they had to go through me. I didn?t object. They wanted me to run a teller drawer the following week, since all of the tellers were scheduled off. I didn?t object. I was doing it for the better of the company.
At the end of the day after everybody else shut down their computers, I sent an email to them all, along with the HR person and the regional manager simply stating ?Today is my last day here. My keys are in the desk.? I wished them all a Merry Christmas, and that was it.
I can only imagine how hectic that Monday morning was. Banks are usually busy on Mondays because they?re closed on Sundays. You factor in the bank being closed for 2 days, let alone after a holiday, and you have a madhouse (even with all 8 people there). With that in mind, trim the staff down to 2 and you can imagine the nightmare that they walked into that day. Nobody to work as teller. No vault teller. Nobody for the second set of codes to unlock everything. An employee who quit without notice. A parking lot full of eager, impatient customers. A manager who took an early vacation, and is impossible to reach. Let me go back - an employee who suddenly quit without notice AND recently changed his home and mobile numbers. My mole in the system told me that things in the branch reached a boiling point that day, and they damn near had to close it down.
I?m proud of my work.
yeah that's what i was thinking.
my worst job was working in a bakery, smelt nice at first but eventually grew to dislike the odour of freshly baked bread. i was asked to clean a fridge, i did it and the district manager came and said it wasn't clean, when he blatantly saw me clean it. grrr. i walked out. it was my first job when i was 16 and was paid ?2.27 per hour. criminal. but i spent my earnings on my first hi-fi set up. marantz pm 57 amp, technics cd player and mordant short speakers.

"Corn Detastling" The worst ever. I did it in a drought and my back hurt from bending over for like 11-12 hours a day. I swear it's the last legal form of slave labour in Canada.
