Re: Hernan Cattaneo

Interesting review there Grant, I don't feel so bad for missing last night now.

Saw you down @ glitch on Friday night but didn't get a chance to say hi. What a rocking night that was, definately gonna be checking out Michael Mayer a lot more in the future. Great to see him getting into his own mix so much too.

As for Hernan, while I haven't seen him live yet, I do believe that he's the only dj presently out there good enough to take the reigns from Digweed if he ever decided to retire, and its still such an early point in Hernan's career, he's only going to get better and better.

I hold him in the same regard as Digweed because I feel he's the only one out there who can program a set as good as Digweed can. When he works a groove, he really works a groove and sends his sets to another level. Only 2 dj's out there who can do it so affectively.

not really into Hernan :(

I don't suppose anyone's ripped Hernan's promo for future hosting on [ms] ?

I ripped it this afternoon to check out in the car. Not sure what the score is with Grant on this one, but I can make it available is he's cool with that.
I ripped it this afternoon to check out in the car. Not sure what the score is with Grant on this one, but I can make it available is he's cool with that.
No need to rip it - if it's going to be hosted, then I'll supply [ms] with my original.

I'll see what his management and the [ms] mods have to say.

Syntax - as for those Digweed comparisons... hmm, you're on your own there matey! Always a little touchy to make comparisons to Diggers on [ms] :)

#349714Post 46 of 115

[ms]mods are cool with it...I heard rumors about them saying so. :P

#349718Post 47 of 115

I dont see why more and more people compare Hernan to Diggers. I watched him 2 times in the last year and i thought he was good overall... but nowhere near the absolutely mental parties with JZ or Lee. I think he got to no 6 just because he is the only south american DJ that made it big time and i guess every latin voted for him as No. 1. Except for Hernan, every top DJ comes from either the US, UK, or Australia. So the votes are split there. With Hernan it's just about patriotism.

I guess you're entitled to your opinion, although I couldn't disagree more with your whole "latino" and "patriotism" theory.

GrantT, thanks for the link ... i liked the set, if i was out i would expect this early on though. does earnan usually bang it out as the night progresses?

#356303Post 64 of 115

Hernan's Jan Promo is fooking baaad. Very progressive. Minimal fluff.

it's tops my list of his sets...

#356422Post 65 of 115

http://juani.colirioteam.com.ar:6969 Ja, it's an argentinian site, so there are full replete with Cattaneo mix.

#356652Post 66 of 115

man...i go all around europe to listen to all kindda dj's...but the absolute fun i've ever had...and i mean...real fun i had at cattaneo's jig @ ultima plaja-mamaia romania. And i was absolute free of drug abuse...so , please man...TIESTO?- no fucking way---the man is much more subtile...

Re: Hernan Cattaneo

Hernan Cattaneo is no doubt one of the most talented DJs around..he really knows what we house music lovers want and i think thats what makes him a great DJ...it would be insulting to compare him to Tiesto..download his live @ London sets
^I've never been fond of him. Never found a set that really did it for me, yet everyone here on [ms] loves him. :not me:
And don't you ever forget it.

Everyone has someone that doesn't do it for them though. Someone who it seems everyone else loves.

Take Sasha for example. Or Danny Howells. They just don't do it for me, usually. I do still listen to a lot of sets by each though, hoping. I just like Sasha as a producer, Involver was good and ADD is legendary in my eyes. So like so many producers, he just can't mix a good set. Things haven't changed much with Sasha either, he switched to Ableton but all the sets still sound exactly the same to me.

Danny, he just isn't consistent enough to me. I used to love him.

But irregardless, Hernan roXXorZ. I've never heard a set by him I didn't like. I can't say that about many DJs.

At least most everyone can agree on one thing though. Digweed. Since most probably ventured this way because of him.

I'm going to Sasha next Friday in hopes that he'll convert me; that seeing him live is different from the sets I've heard. I did like the one from Aria from last July but the sound quality was shite. And I used to really like Danny, but I agree with you about inconsistency. Then I went and saw him last June/July and he blew goats. So my plan of him winning me over again backfired.

Exactly, consistency, that is a big part of a quality dj imo. I drove 2 hours to see howells last year in orlando...and man it was just godawful. just horrible. I like alot of howells stuff but way to often does he go off into the deep end. Sometimes I wonder what he is on to make him think that the music he is playing sounds good......

#357617Post 71 of 115

Exactly. I liked Danny a lot when I first discovered him. I found and Dl'ed every set I could find. Then he just did if for me less and less. It seemed like when I really liked him, very few people even knew who he was.

And the less and less I dug his sets, the more and more everyone around me started to like him. Up until I heard him live which was when I gave up. And yet, about that time was when everyone around me, including [ms] just couldn't stop talking about him. I'm glad to see I'm not alone.

Go back to the olden days Danny :(

You 2 Sasha

YEs that is the one Ska, i think it was last april at the HOuse of Blues....sunday night as a matter of fact.

The opeining guy was worse....I couldnt believe my ears...I pretty much got a headache from the crap that was coming out of the speakers
The opeining guy was worse....I couldnt believe my ears...I pretty much got a headache from the crap that was coming out of the speakers
Haha, I've not talked to anyone that likes Jimmy Joslin. If they gave out razzies for DJs he would certainly sweep the awards. He's the resident at HOB on Service Industry Night (Sunday), I make it a point now to get there 2 hours after doors open.

#357660Post 75 of 115

damn right about that guys. I got 3 names who so many people seem to love, but everytime I've gone to see them...nothing. Howells, Deep Dish and Morillo. Howells and DD kill me cause they have the ability to every now and then play an amazing set problem is they also could bore the hell out of me and mange to do it most times I'd seen them or heard their sets. Then with Morillo, he plays nothing but peaktime from start to finish, where's the creativity in that? It starts pounding on my head and bores the absolute hell out of me.

#357912Post 78 of 115

i am a big DD fan , but i will say this, DD plays good/bad depending on the crowd. if the crowd is god (miami, chicago) they will play incredibly. if the crowd suck, they will suck...but i am going to see them tomorrow at ice las vegas..ive seen them twice in vegas and they sucked really bad....so well see

OK, this is just plain old retarded... If you don't care for Hernan Cattaneo then thats just super... however, I will correct the pop music comparison..

I caught HC by surprise at Spirit, the old Twilo space... I must say it was one of my most enjoyable and uplifting nights on that dancefloor... and that is out of over 150 nights... or more... you can imagine I've lost count. At any rate, I had no idea who he was until already listening to him and on the dancefloor. I went in blind and vulnerable to a surprise DJ, and I didn't close out the night at 630am nearly alone on the floor... the vibe and energy were so free and sans attitude with a really diverse crowd, and there was something for everyone.

Masters disc 1 is like crack but doesn't burn my lips like that old pipe does

I have heard sets that didnt do much for me from HC, but if that or HOUSE to the 9th power were reason to write someone off, this board wouldn't exist. Lets not be cranky trance or techno snobs... I used to swear by happy hardcore and stubbornly refused to listen to house... After being tricked into going to a house club by a lot of booze a long time ago, I realized... House rocks my non-existant ovaries... and house all night can be bad if done improperly or stuck in gospel world (I have issues, lol) but you can't say its automatically bad and expect anyone to think you've got an open mind or any validity to your criticism when how many people on this board have been blown away by all house sets?

HC is not your bag, baby... Proof of him sucking is unsubstantial at best... Don't negate other folks great enthusiasm for someone you dont care for... is there any good to come from that? Now go dance!
