A few of my opinions regarding sushi:
Cooked fish always(read: always) tastes better than raw fish. Raw fish is flavorless. It's just slimy and gross.
A slimy, flavorless piece of fish slapped hastily onto a bundle of white rice isn't my idea of 'appetizing'.
Eel? I've had it, and it was BY FAR the worst sushi I've eaten. I don't even think it's raw, it had some sort of sweet coating on one side, and even though it didn't taste too bad, it was all stringy and disgusting. I probably wouldn't eat it again.
Whenever I went to eat sushi, I'd get a bowl of Miso(tasty), and then I'd just make a thick wasabi/soy sauce paste to drown out that fucking awful taste.
Onto sushi rolls. I don't mind them, as it seems like the meat is at least cooked in them. California rolls are good, but only if they have lots of that delicious mayo-like substance in them. The best roll I've had is a Ninja Roll. It had some sort of sweet crispy rice inside, damn it was good.
Raw fish is nasty. Cooked fish is good. End of story.
EDIT**
Japanese food isn't too tasty overall. I'd much prefer Chinese food, or Vietnamese food(Pho in particular). Korean food is awful al well, kimchee is like cold, crispy feces.
