Do you smoke cigarettes? If so, how often? If you used to but don't anymore, how many per week?

I used to smoke for about 6 years, roughly 5 - 20 cigs per day...

...now I have 1 - 5 per month.

My fav are american spirits or marlboro light 100's.

Re: Do You Smoke?

Nope, never.

It honestly boggles my mind how so many people can still smoke nowadays with all the knowledge we have about the horrible side effects on themselves and the people around them.

I hear ye...I can't understand it either. I work in the area of mental health, and you would be amazed how many of my colleagues smoke. Part of my role in work is being what's known as a "smoking cessation officer", whereby I try to educate/support people with enduring mental illness to quit smoking. Would you believe folks, that half of all tobacco products sold in the U.S is bought by those with a mental illness....quite a sobering thought

I gave them up approx 5 years back - best thing I ever did.

without wanting to sidetrack the thread...... increase in knowledge does not always equal behavior change. smoking is the classic example but also look as sexual risk behaviors and HIV, or serious drug use needle swapping, eating fatty foods or living at the bottom of a volcano etc etc etc. Just because people know something is not good for you doesn't always they way they act.

Nicotine itself is more addictive than heroin and smoking requires habits which are addictive in their own right. I was a very heavy smoker, haven't smoked for many years now.

I have to say I feel sorry for smokers now, and eternally grateful that I was able to stop. I also recognise all the excuses because I used to make them myself

I am sorry you and your family are having to go through this. Your father is very lucky. I guess that just goes to show how addicting it really is.

My uncle was diagnosed with a fairly severe case of emphysema a few years ago and we all thought it would finally get him and my aunt to finally quit smoking (they each smoke about a pack a day), but unfortunately no :(

Re: Do You Smoke?

I tried cigarettes when I was 17... I didn't like them , so I don't smoke, and I never did. I glad about this. I hate the smoke, and I can't understand people that, when in places full of smoke (clubs, pubs, concerts) they light one after another...

Re: Do You Smoke?

It seems that I'm enjoying smoking more and more these days. Everytime I light one up it seems to be better then the last. It's making it really super hard to quit that's for sure.

Thanks DQ :) sorry that you are going through something similar :(

I certainly know how tough it was... one of those things that you never really know how you love/appreciate someone until it is almost gone.

Smoking... nicotine... just isnt worth it. Think about your family, think about the people you love... think about all the chicks or guys you could have been with but since you stink like shit... never happened. But sometimes, nothing works. =\

Addiction is a bitch.

Re: Do You Smoke?

It's kind of scary because I was just thinking about this the other day. I haven't been a smoker that long (a couple years) and I never used to smoke that many cancer sticks a day but I've gotta admit it now...I'm up to a pack a day. I really need to quit. Every time my 3 1/2 year old nephew catches me smoking he screams something like, "Uncle Christian stop smoking! You're going to get sick and have to go live with Jesus!" That's both adorable and heart-breaking. Maybe it'll be my 2011 New Year's Resolution. I've never really made a resolution before @ the new year so perhaps I'll actually stick to it rather than it ending up a bullshit afterthought by January 3rd like the majority of them.

EDIT - BTW, I smoke Camel Crush (Menthol/Regular) Cigarettes. I should just switch to menthol because I ALWAYS crush the little menthol fluid sphere in the filter.
