Don't know much about it except it's due out in Oct. Will post more info when it's released.

Looking forward to this. His more recent solo productions and with Sante Pucello under Mutant Clan have been great. I'm excited to see what he does for this Balance mix.

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

Looking forward to it. Timo's productions rock, alone or as part of Mutant Clan and he knows how to make a good mixed compilation. Have both his Music for the Maases CD's in my collection. German qwality. :)

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

I thought this was an interesting choice. Timo has been around for awhile, never really been a fan, I heard him a few times years ago and his sound was too hard for me. But I think he has developed a cool sound, touching on tribal beats with lots of percussion and good energy. Something I would enjoy live more then at home listening. I have started to pay closer attention to him recently because he started a record label Rockets & Ponies and my friends Alex Dolby and Giorgio Roma are on it along with Santos. I went to the label launch party during WMC and it was a good time. Alex is doing a couple exclusive tracks for the Balance mix so really excited for it. I had Alex play at 360 in Dubai last month and it was a great time. His productions are amazing! Some of the best of late are 'Ceilo' that he did with Giorgio, was a stormer during WMC! Also 'this is my city' with Santos is pretty hot, and he has 'Chinese massage' coming out now too along with one on Digweeds new Structers album. Dude is on a roll :) Anyways really curious what this album will be like, cant wait :)

Seasoned DJ and producer Timo Maas has mixed the next edition of the Balance mix series, due for release in October.

As with previous editions by Agoria and Joris Voorn, Balance 017 will comprise two discs—a format that made the project especially appealing to Maas. "To spread myself out over two CDs without essentially having to 'rock' a crowd from the beginning is a very good thing," he says. "I was able to also include deeper, downbeat, 'earlier set' material, that I personally like to listen to, but am not essentially playing out on a normal club night." Almost 40 tracks are included in total, including selections by Nicolas Jaar, Solvent and Carl Craig. A raft of previously unreleased tunes feature as well, including Maas's own remix of "Ashtray Heart," Placebo's single from 2009.

Maas has done his fair share of mixes over the course of his nearly two-decade career, but Balance 017 will be his first in seven years, following 2003's Music for the Maases 2. It will be accompanied by an EP featuring four exclusive tunes from the album, including three by Maas himself and "Arcadia" by Mutant Clan, his collaboration with Italian producer Santos.

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

I am with big expectations about this new Timo Maas work. I like a lot the Balance Series albums, have almost all of them. Some are good some aren't but the global appreciation is pleasant so i hope that Timo Maas mark his quality on this Balance 017 and let us enjoy with good sound for the next months ;)

The Tracklist seems to be good enough, let's wait and listen!

Waiting for this since August!

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

A little teaser if anybody wants to hear it. I haven't listened to it, cause I want to wait for the actual cd. Haven't seen the tracklist to this promo, so I don't even know if it's the same tracks as what will be on the release.

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

I saw him last night and he was terrible. It seemed like he had no clue about what he wanted to do or where he wanted to go with the music so he played a random assortment of tracks. It might have been okay if you were really messed up and just wanted to dance...but even then he was playing it all a lowish tempo. Very strange. At one point he pulled out Shifter and even though it's his track I don't think it's really worthy of digging out. His mixing skills were poor, making it a very jarring experience and he was fan of looping up a snare roll and hitting it with the phaser to get a buildup going...it was all a bit bedroom dj. Very disappointed.

That doesn't bode well. Hope he gets his act together for tonight :(

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

DIDI, Timo Maas is not a great performer in my opinion but the albums normaly are cool. Maybe because it's not under pressure! Or at least the Live pressure!

When he put on Subtellite it was almost as though he was thinking " Well I suppose you idiots all want this " So, all over the shop, mixing pretty average, programming , shit. I'n not sure whether it was him or the clubs fault but the a sound was pretty average . It could have been the club because it wasn't a usual crew. Worst thing for me is that he really looked as though he didn't want to be there, not into the music himself at all. If he isn't into his music , why would I, or anyone else, want to buy his CD ??? This is a promotional tour after all !

After all that I still enjoyed his set, he did play some amazing music, I liked the tempo most of the time , what I didn't like was the sudden changes in tempo. In his defence it was a really random crowd. The two Djs after him were trance djs, and I remember why I don't like trance  You dance your arse off for a couple of minutes and then stop , and then do it all again  He also had this guy there who was continually photographing him using a flash. I would have been really pissed off

He didn't play Chinese Massage. :(

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

bad night eh?

#1420979Post 30 of 55

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

No it wasn't actually , I still enjoyed his set, but it had the potential to be great and it wasn't. Sort of frustrating. It really brought home to me how in important a Djs attitude can be. You felt as though you were intruding on him

The night overall was quite good. There were more people I knew there than I had expected. There was a group that I danced with last week that were really good fun. I met a a couple of really nice people. :D I probably just needed a hour or two more of music I love and I would have been really happy

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

Didi, from what I've read, he played 3 gigs in 36 hours, yours being the third. He may have been just tired as hell. But I'm sure it would have been a much more enjoyable set if he were into it like I've heard he normally is. Of course diggers stands up there like a statue sometimes. ;) Glad you made the best of it though. I sure hope his balance comp is better than his gigs there in Australia.

#1421063Post 32 of 55

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

Most Djs that do Australia do multiple gigs. So that really isn't a good excuse. Hernan last time , 25 hour flight, straight to Brisbane club , five hour set, Melbourne the next night 6 hour set. , Sydney only 3 hours , Perth another 5 1/2 hours. He travelled a lot more distance and every set was nort only brilliant, but different. Burridge comes here and just about plays nonstop the whole time he is here. Danny Howells crisscrossed the country multiple times , and it's a big country, earlier in the year. I was at his last gig, 7 hours of absolutely superb, beautifully constructed music. :D As Hernan says, "Hey, I'm a Dj" and that is what Djs do. :D Timo's longest set was 3 hours here, and from what I have heard so far his sets were similar. So I'm not letting him have that excuse  Perhaps he could have made the best of it as well. :)

I have however heard really good reviews on his CD.:D

Brown Alley. Or were they both there?

P.S. Killed it is a good thing. Surely this is not a foreign term! :D

#1426590Post 40 of 55

Re: Timo Maas - Balance 017

I was trying to be funny , Hence the  I knew what you meant. I was at the Brown Alley, he was on RMH the next night . He did't kill it. The review I put up here was the best review he got. He did play some great tunes, but his programming was awful , and the mixing etc. was very ordinary. I think I also said, in his defence, the sound wasn't up to scratch and he had some photographer firing a flash in his face for quite a while. But reading the reviews he played pretty much the same at every gig, and you really did get the feeling he would rather be somewhere else. :)
