Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

I think we can agree that diggers and sasha have been doing this about as long as oakey, right? i've seen him live and yes he was great back in the day, but he's clearly lost touch with the music.. plus you don't see jd, sasha, cattaneo acting like a complete tosser behind the decks like that.. you do however see peter hook acting like an idiot though ;)

No but you could by taking some footage from one of their gigs, putting some silly music to it and doing a bit of editing and posting it on youtube with the tittle Sasha Rocks. Maybe you could post it here with the tittle Digweed Awesome!...Right?

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

never really listened to oakenfold, really.

so much of edm is garbage.

In my honest opinion... NID....You, as an artist, should limit your negative criticism of other artists....

Just sayin' ;)

how is that relevent to this thread?

you're not dragging me into a conversation you're far too uninformed to discuss
Point taken.
Cool, yeah, was trying to say that as nice as possible...Just thinking, with some of the releases that you already have out, and for the success of future releases...Best if you let people/fans of your music base their opinions of "NID" off of your music and not personal opinions about others in the industry and elsewhere. :)

Prime example: Dixie Chicks.

Besides, you never know, some of your biggest fans just might be the biggest fans of Oakie...Don't want to lose them over something said in an internet forum..

If you need a manager, let me know.

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

Never seen him but have heard plenty of live Oakie mixes prior to '99 that I enjoyed. I think he lost touch with the music after his acquisition of the alien hairpiece he wears, kind of like spiderman's black costume.

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

I think Steve's comparison of Oakey to Sasha and JD isn't a realistic one.

They're audiences are poles apart! Oakenfold's theatrics behind the decks are born out of his eccentricity and also his "act"!! Much in the same way heavy metal bands have had a "stage show"for years! Is Oakey's antics live a million miles away from someone like Ozzy Osbourne??

I believe Oakey act's the way he does because he thinks that's what his audience wants from him and they lap it up!

I used to go to see Oakey year's back and my Bro Simon R will confirm this, with a nutter by the name of "flicker"! Lovely guy by the way, built like a brick shit house!! This guy worshipped Oakey and used to Mimic all his stage Theatrics in the club in front of people!! To me it was all part of the Oakenfold show!!

I think what is disrespectful is people forget just what Oakenfold has achieved in his career. He's a very shrewd individual and a clever business man!

His place in history is assured in maybe a way Sasha and JD's aren't! Yes they are cult hero's on the club scene but they've not gone beyond that.

Whether it's his Scores on The Matrix Reloaded, The Bourne Identity, Collateral, Die Another Day. Supporting and touring with U2 or Madonna. His entry in the Guinness Book of Records or playing at the Great Wall of China.

Yet he's ridiculed like Tiesto. A guy who performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece, becoming the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympics!!

I put too you would either Sasha or JD turn down any of these opportunities if asked?

I seem to remember Sasha was pretty stoked at having the opportunity to contribute music to an episode of CSI!

I think Nomad needs to remember that to have a successful career in the industry you need to stand on your own two feet! As Matthew Dekay found out it was all over when Sasha and Digweed got out of bed one morning and decided to start playing intelligent techno/ minimal so as to preserve they're own careers! You can be in favour one day and out in the cold the next in this life!

#1373201Post 59 of 98

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

Another point is Oakenfold's professionalism!!

Oakenfold has always turned up for his gig's! Never a no show!

He's punctual and he's never too twatted to play either!!!!

they are now they all did early GU comps which are some of the more timeless cd's to date, I used to really rate oakey as a good dj, now not so much, that's due to the path he's taken, and there's nothing wrong with that, he chased big $$$, good for him

I agree with most of what you have posted mate. But i remember an Essential Mix from Amnesia in 2006. I waould say he was twatted that night lol. Embarrassing!!

Infact i know he was because i was standing just down from him in Bar M when Kasabian were playing Ibiza Rocks!! Twas tipsy indeed!!

#1373223Post 65 of 98

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

I agree there! As a Dj I don't rate him anymore either! Like I said i'll catch him out of a sense of Nostalgia if he's in town.

The likes of that track "welcome to the club, welcome to perfecto" make me cringe, but it's clearly all part of the commercial bums on seats approach to his Residency at Rain in Vegas!

I think anyone who spends time in Hollywood is never the same after it! I think that's were Oakey maybe started to lose touch with his audience of old!

In all fairness he played a Perfecto classics set in 2007 on a Wednesday night upstairs in the Carling Academy Liverpool for two hours to no more than 100 to 200 people and it was just like the Oakey of old from his Cream Residency! He was clearly in his element that night and very happy to be back in the city which will always be his spiritual home:)

Nice you meet you Andy. Your brother is one stand up guy! You should be proud and honoured to be his brother :)

As for loving Oakey and Tiesto at one point, I can't knock him for that....we were all there at one point. Plus if I bugged him about that, he'd tease me about my former Armin obsession ;)

Can't believe I missed this thread. Great shit-throwing by two people I respect.

Oh, and Tiesto was pretty good at the beginning, the first two In Search of Sunrises were not bad at all.

Re: Oakie's awesome!...right?

Yes I love GU 7!!! Classic :)

GU 5 also too! The way he starts with chilled drum on bass on CD 1 and then by the end of CD 2 he's pumping out Goa trance sums up the diverse Oakey of old!

Who are we to judge, the guys obviously got talent or he wouldn't be where is today making an ass load of money selling records and owning his own company. :-) Agreed he might have lost it a little bit, but he is one of the best in the biz.

Who are we to judge, paris hilton has talent or she wouldn't be where she is today making an ass load of money selling shitty products.

he's lost more than a little bit...i saw him back in 05 (should have left once cattaneo was done) and it was trainwreck mania. ON CD PLAYERS. he totally ruined the epic buildup set out by cattaneo (and I say that as a person who isn't much of a cattaneo fan...but damn, the guy was just making a fool of digweed with that crescendo), and he was doing his shitty jesus posing stuff. I left after a half hour. I had seen enough. people go to see him because he's oakenfold. not because he mixes well. not because his track selection is AMAZING (which it arguably once was). I hate what he's done to himself.

perhaps an intervention is called for?

otherwise, this will end like flowers for algernon.
