Haha, nice.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
the oil seems to be the least of the problems rigth now. Toxic gases have escaped as well such as Benzene, Hydrogen Sulfide, as well as other toxic chemicals. Levels of Benzene in the air are at unprecedentede levels. Can cause acute myelogenous leukemia, lymphatic system cancers, and other cancers related to blood. The whole population around the volcano is at risk . From LA to Florida we will see in the future incresed rates of sickness and death because the volcano is burping out these chemicals as well as oil.
Miscarriages will be at an all time high as well in the future in the affected areas.
People in Florida all the way to LA need to honestly start contimplating about relocating to somewhere else in the USA. It is unsafe.
It is estimated that 4 million barrels per day are pumping into the gulf. BP was drilling at 30,000ft below the sea and hit a major pocket that ruptured all the safety valves. It is estimated that the back pressure was around 20,000psi. This situation is so fucked up it is honeslty beyond comprehension.
Operation Gardenplot may take effect soon

25 million people need to relocate you say?
That's roughly 8 million people shy of the total population of Canada.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has began round-the-clock air monitoring in Gulf coastal areas and posting online hourly readings for ozone and tiny particles such as soot. Both can cause respiratory problems and are particuarly aggravating for people with chronic conditions such as asthma.
Crude oil emits volatile organic compounds that react with nitrogen oxides to produce ozone. Fires being set by the Coast Guard to burn off oil on the water's surface would produce sooty, acrid smoke.
"We don't know what the impacts are going to be yet," said Dave Bary, an EPA spokesman in Dallas. "We don't know in what direction this oil will go."
The potential for unhealthy air quality depends on a variety of factors, particularly the speed and direction of winds that could disperse fumes and determine where they go, said Jonathan Ward, an environmental toxicology professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
With the leaky Gulf well some 50 miles offshore, Ward said much of the oil vapor likely wouldn't reach land, although the potential for air pollution from the slick will remain as long as the leak continues.
Public health agencies in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi advised people near the coast who experience nausea, headaches or other smell-related ailments to stay inside, turn on air conditioners and avoid exerting themselves outdoors.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
Relocating 25 million people is a tough task. Luckily most of your major cities have seen a sharp decline in population. I'm sure there is a way to do it. It won't be easy but I think BP should have to pay at minimum $500 Billion in clean up and relocation fees. The poor children that will be affected by this is sad. I would prefer that they lived in Denver or Baltimore or Detroit then breathe in the toxic air down there.

You are aware that Exxon wormed out of paying US$5 billion in compensation after Exxon Valdez disaster. I say pay nothing.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
Pay Nothing? You are joking right? You must be.
Pay Nothing? You are joking right? You must be.
No the victims of Bhopal got $580 each. These people have cancer and deformed children, if a chemical disaster is worth $580 a bit of dirty water isn't worth anything. The final Exxon pay out $8,000 per person.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
and this is at least 10 times bigger then Exxon.. So you are advocating $80,000 per person then? That would be good money to relocate wouldn't it. I mean the entire Gulf is a toxic waste dump now.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
No they should get the same. If both parties lost their livelihood it doesn’t matter the level of the contamination, just the fact it was contaminated. It’s not like the Alaskan’s are still going to be able to work because the size of the spill was less. But when you compare that to Bhopal where 3,787 people where killed and another 8,000 died in the weeks following the disaster and the thousands are still living with the effects (Cancer/Deformed Children) it’s a whole different story. Are these people worth less because they live in a poorer country?
I suppose people could argue about the effect on wildlife in the Gulf but then no one ever complains about the wildlife that was killed in Bhopal or on 9/11 for that matter
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
^seriously Chunky? what are you talking about? why do you always compare the past with the present? Things do change, ya know?

The Bhopal compensation was only paid out in 1999. It’s not that far in the past and the USA is still harboring Warren Anderson. 14 years for compensation. I’m guessing the 9/11 compensation will get paid out in 2016
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
unfortunately for BP this disaster has been ongoing now for over a month, giving way to a viral internet campaign and a uniting of not only those living on the Southeast Coastal region of the US but those living all over the country and world. This has put pressure on the powers that be as well as not given the powers that be time to hide from what has transpired. This is still on-going and staring the world in its face.
For the reasons mentioned, this is different than the incidents that you are referring to. I'm not saying this is worse, I'm saying that this is different, and for different reasons, BP is being held responsible, like it or not.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
Bhopal happened over 25 years ago and is still on going today Sounds to me like you are trying to say Pearl Harbour was a bigger tragedy than the holocaust. The aftermath of the Bhopal disaster has been going on for over 25 years with deformed children and cancer. The only reason this hasn’t been staring people in the face is because people don’t want to look! Out of interest how may funkykama’s is a Florida Orange worth?

Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
^^^^i dont like that story. another inteview that disturbed me was with a havard physist on nbc. he said that the chances of them getting those relief wells drilled in the correct location is like you or I winning the lottery. He sugested it could take months if not years of trying until they tap it in the correct spot.

Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
it absoltely boggles my mind this is still happening.. ChuckC I honestly think you should try to move out of Florida soon I am concerned for you and others safety down there.. Come buy a cheap house up here in Detroit.
They can't stop it because of the leaks. It is time to move out of there.. honestly.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
^are you seriously telling someone to move?
or kind of just kidding?
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
Hey Runningman how long are you banned from this time? You should know by now calling other member’s Holocaust Deniers is fine but Pussy's, not good!
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
If it was going to affect my health or my livelihood I would have no problem with moving. But then I have no problem with taking away boarders and allowing everyone to travel and work wherever they want. I would love to see Iraqi’s, Palestinians, Mexicans Polish or anyone else have the opportunity to live wherever they want. I think it would make the world a lot more interesting.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
I am banned for a month I think. I don't know though I never got my legal letters in the mail yet..
I know it is kind of funny that people can call people such horrible names on here but if you call Americans Pussies that one is over the top for some reason.. Also please refrain from saying anything bad bout the US as well. It is kind of hard talking politics when the game is rigged before you get in the convo.
I am 100% telling him to move for his safety. The levels of benzene and other VOC's is off the charts right now. You won't see the damage for years-cancer, dizziness, nausea, skin irritation, fallujah syndrome of new born babies etc.... It is considered a soft kill zone now. Soft kill is something that doesn't kill you right away but over time. Firing squad would be considered a hard kill.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
I would recommend whoever is on the southern coast and all of florida to move.
I'm not telling you to, but that's my stance on this.
A lot of you seem to be worried about the oil seeping out.
A lot of you are forgetting that capping this well won't stop the oil from coming out - the problem exists way below the floor of the gulf. Capping the well would be like cupping your hand on the bottom of a seive and pouring water into it. That stuff will still be coming out.
And pretty much all of your are, i'm sure, unaware of the possibility of a giant fuck-off bubble of methane that could pop out, sink all the ships in the gulf instantly, and create a 200 foot tidal wave that would race to the southern gulf shorelines.
Re: Oil leak in Gulf of Mexico off coast of LA
wait until hurricane season blowing all those gases in land as wel as the oil.. What a mess. Move while you can IMO.

Hey res0 did you notice that Oil Rig burned for 36 hours with a constant fuel source and flame that could be seen 90 miles away before falling into the sea.

BREAKING NEWS
NEW ORLEANS - Oil was again gushing from the BP spill site on Wednesday after the company was forced to remove the containment cap when a robotic submarine hit a vent. The news came as officials also reported two deaths of people who had been hired for the response effort. URL: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37841204/ns/disaster_in_the_gulf/
