oh my god... am I the only one not excited at all about this ?
We need new people in the scene, 'nuff with the dinosaurs ... !! so many great djs around and yet GU thinks we need to have ANOTHER seaman cd? Isnt 3 enough ? I mean i like the guy and all, but.... come on !
:S
Every attempt they've made with "new" artists have resulted in pretty mixed results. Just listen to the Felix The Housecat one for proof of how far off the rails they can go to.

WHO would you have picked? Name 5 "new" better DJs please. Not being a dick, just curious.
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
^ Agree with the comments above - they have tried new dj's and I reckon they have bombed - Felix, Freeland, Plump DJ's which have all done nothing really
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
They really haven't done to well with their new blood in the last few years. I think they would of done better if they had given Nic Fanciulli a proper GU. They should of tried to get one out of Zabiela. The Nubreed and their other series they started have just been a complete waste of time.

You didn't think the Fanciulli was any good? I liked it better than the last two Renaissance cd's he put out.
And while I wasn't crazy about the Jim Rivers Nubreed, the Sultan one made up for it.
I don't think they could have gotten Zabiela to do a GU as he's in pretty tight with Renaissance right now.
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
I haven't actually listened to the Fanciulli GU. I liked his Renaissance CDs. I think from a branding point of view they would of sold more copies had he done a Locations GU and I think it would of done GU and Nic's profile a lot more than L&B Felix, Plump etc releases. I think as releases go Renaissance do far better at branding their product. The artists get to do releases that have their own individual brand Therapy Sessions, Everybody, Transitions, Sequential etc but they all seem to feel like more of a collection than the GU releases. I've bought a lot more Renaissance CD's in the last few years from artists I know little about and been a lot more satisfied with my purchases. The Sandy Rivera is probably the best example of this, I remember putting that CD on and feeling like Id been slapped round the face with a big raw salmon.
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the Sandy Rivera Renaissance, and the Renaissance series seems to have a very logical flow with each addition to their series. The Gui Boratto and M.A.N.D.Y. releases I wouldn't have figured to be logical follow ups to Danny Howell's contribution, but when I've played all three back to back, they're nearly seamless.
Like you said, GU seems very jarring with each addition to the series, Nick Warren's Lima, followed by Lavelle in Bangkok and then Carl Cox in Black Rock just doesn't feel like contributions in the series like they did before - they feel more like they're individual efforts with the GU label just putting their name on it.

it's not as if he's done the most GU's they've all been quality, so what's the big deal?
would you complain if diggers or sasha did another GU?
who would you prefer to see do one?
at the end of the day, if it's a good compilation, does it really matter if it's GU, Renaissance or Balance etc?
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman

Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
Dave Seaman & Nick Warren are playing Hope & Audio Therapy at Space in Ibiza June. I've never seen either of them on a Space Ibiza line up before.
Re: Global Underground #39 Dave Seaman
Haven't listened to a GU for ages, last was Nick Warren's. But was the Warren GU good because it was GU? Or was it simply Warren? Why should Diggers do another GU when he has Transitions? Sydney, Hong Kong, LA marked an era of sound for him which he has moved on from. The good ol' GU progressive sound is dead, if Diggers brought what he's playing these days to GU, it'd sound so disconnected, better off he produce another Transitions or Balance. Actually he's never done a Fabric, I think Diggers should put his stamp on that series.
Used to trust GU to deliver the goods, now I listen to them if I think the DJ is worth the time. Seriously between all the other comps and live sets, GU must be so coked up their asses to think they still serve a niche.

Your in luck then Wally lopez is doing one
Mar 2010
Global Underground are proud to present the third instalment of the spin off DJ Series, curated by Spanish music maestro Wally Lopez. Hot on the heels of the widely acclaimed releases by Nic Fanciulli & The Plump DJs, this is Wally's first mix compilation for the label, and a fierce one at that.
Over the last 20 years Wally has built himself into Spain's foremost international DJ. He's played with Madonna; co-headlines a residency @ Space Ibiza; become an ambassador for HIV/AIDS awareness charity Dance4Life; released on some of the top house labels such as Defected, Subliminal, Yoshitoshi and Underwater. All whilst running his own successful record label Factomia & clothing line Tremenda Wear.
CD1 kicks off with an electroid reworking of a funky techno Misstress Barbara track before dropping down into the atmospheric, post-minimal Stimming mix of Robert Babicz's 'Come Closer'. As Wally locks into a chuggy groove, the mix takes in funky tribalisms, percussive feasts, widescreen journeying and even a tinge of sexy Latin. Wally's not afraid to chuck the odd vocal anthem in the mix either, while on CD2 he goes a little deeper before flexing out the flow towards the finish. Global Underground's impact over the last 2 decades has been phenomenal. Synonymous with some of the most collectable and revered compilations ever made including Sasha's 'Ibiza' and 'San Francisco' releases, Paul Oakenfold's 'Oslo', Darren Emerson's 'Singapore' to Tony De Vit's 'Tel Aviv' and 'Tokyo' follow up, with the more recent 'Black Rock Desert' release form Carl Cox, their roster reads like a who's who of electronica's icons.

Wally Lopez? Cannot say I have ever seen that many promos around of his - is he a prolific DJ?
Seems a bizarre choice really?

Yeah Wally is a great dj and composer. He's been making some deep dark tribally stuff for years. I just could never stand to look at the guy. I look at him and say Get a Man's Haircut!
