Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

Surprisingly good compilation ( especially Disc 1 ) and I must admit that I did not expect this kind of sound from Gui Boratto

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

I had to turn disc one off and switch to disc two. I'm not a big fan of vocals and the 1st and 4th tracks on disc one had some terrible sounding vocals and cheesy lyrics. Diggin disc 2 so far. Will finish disc 1 later, I'm hoping it gets better. Of course, this is all my opinion and apparently my target is very small.

Gui is the effing don, haters need not apply!

That said, I heard disc 1 and wasn't blown away but it was a very tolerable journey.

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection
Think he peak about a year ago Guy J sort of stole his thunder
Disagree entirely (unless you're referencing strictly DJ'ing, in which case Gui doesn't have much of a history)...peaking is a relative term but he has a unique sound palette all his own. Some are more inspired than others but there is a sense of musicianship and depth that can't be ignored.

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

Listened to CD 1 ... nice melodies but kinda just plods along. And that dsco singing is pretty gay, gotta agree. Maybe I'm not in the right mood for it, switched to Watergate 05 and the opener grabbed me right away.

#1332484Post 56 of 78

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

agreed, watergate 5 is cool and the first disk of this gui thing is not for me at all. Sounds like what they used to call progressive trance

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

Nice relaxing cd's with good tracks. The only thing I miss is a huge peak or something like that.

Next time someone asks you: Hey unrecogniseduser, can you explain me what is Progressive Trance ?! Your answers must be: Progressive trance sounds something like this .... or famous Xpander eventually this with beautiful female vocal All in all BPM between 130-135, catchy melody sometimes anthemic & uplifting , average length from 6 to 10 min. Capiche ?!

#1335834Post 63 of 78

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

I can't say I've ever thought of xpander as a progressive trance track

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection
I can't say I've ever thought of xpander as a progressive trance track
1. BPM 134
 2. A very long track ( 10 min )
 3. Catchy anthemic up-tempo synth melody and pumping beat

If you look like a duck, walk like a duck and talk like a duck - guess what ! ;)

There are plenty of tracks that meet that criteria that aren't Progressive Trance. You have a strange idea about Progressive Trance.

So if its shorter than 10 minutes its not Progressive Trance If the beat is lower then BPM 134 its not Progressive Trance And if it has a catchy anthemic up-tempo synth melody and pumping beat it must be Progressive Trance

Defining musical genres on the length and tempo of the track, that's the stupidest shit I've heard yet.

Oh and guess what Ducks don't can't talk. Got to be the stupidest analogy yet.

Re: Gui Boratto - Renaissance Mix Collection

Odd, I've heard people describe Xpander as trance but I've never thought of it that way, it's all prog to me.

One of the main differences between Trance and Progressive Trance is... guess what ? BPM ! If you don't believe me you can ask someone !?

Stop, stop, stop !!!

We live in the Internet age and finding the right answer supposed to be an easy thing !?!

Definition from e-how:

As one of the branches of trance music, progressive trance is characterized as being mellower than other varieties. It also has a slower beat that usually consists of 130 to 140 beats per minute... Progressive trance songs can last up to 12 minutes, compared to the 3- or 4-minute tracks of other genres.

Deifintion from Wikipedia

Compared to trance, the progressive wing is usually deeper and more abstract, featuring a lower average bpm (around 125-135 instead of 130-160) and a recurrent melodic structure... Furthermore, a progressive trance track is usually longer than a regular trance track, ranging in length from 5-6 to even 12–13 minutes... Sasha's progressive trance track "Xpander" from the Xpander EP...

Defining musical genres on the length and tempo of the track, is the stupidest shit you've heard yet !?! Really ?!
