I really like you. I do. You're so nice, and sweet, and you listen to all my problems and respond with the appropriate compliments. But, well, I don't really see a relationship in our future. It would be terrible if we let sex destroy this great friendship we have where I get everything I want and you get nothing you want. Don't you think?

I knew you would understand. You always do.

We're so perfect as friends, you know? I can tell you anything, and you know you can always come to me anytime you need to hear me bitch about work or how ugly I feel. You wouldn't want to ruin a friendship like that just so you could be my boyfriend, and have me look at you with desire and longing in my eyes, if only once—would you? Of course not. Well, if we started dating, it would only complicate this wonderful setup I've got going here.

It's just…you're like my best friend, and I would hate for something you desperately want to change that. I mean, sure, we could go on some dates, maybe mess around a little and finally validate the six years you've spent languishing in this platonic nightmare, but then what? How could we ever go back to the way we were, where I take advantage of your clear attraction to me so I can have someone at my beck and call? That part of our friendship means so much to me.

No. We are just destined to be really, really good friends who only hang out when I don't have a boyfriend, but still need male attention to boost my fragile and all-consuming ego.

Anything can happen once you bring romance in. Think about how awful my last relationship was at the end, remember? The guy I'd call you crying about at 3 a.m. because he wouldn't answer my texts? The guy I met at the birthday party you threw me? I had insanely passionate sex with him for four months and now we don't even talk anymore. God, I would die if something like that happened to us.

Plus, ick, can you even imagine getting naked in front of each other? I've known you so long, you're more like a brother that I've drunkenly made out with twice and never mentioned again. It'd be way too weird. And if we did, then whenever you'd come shopping with me, or go to one of my performances or charity events, or take me for ice cream when I've had a bad day at work, you'd be looking at me like, "I've seen her breasts." God, I can't think of anything more awkward that that.

Oh, before I forget, my mom says hi.

Anyway, you would totally hate me as your girlfriend. I'd be all needy and dramatic and slowly growing to love you. If I was your girlfriend, I would never be able to tell you all about the other asshole guys I date and pretend I don't see how much it crushes you. Let's never lose that. That's what makes us us.

Don't worry. You're so funny and smart and amazing, any girl but me would be lucky to date you. You'll find someone, I know it. And when you do, I'll be right by your side to suddenly become all flirty and affectionate with you in front of her, until she grows jealous and won't believe it when you say we're just friends. But when she dumps you, that's just what we'll be.

Best friends. Friends forever.

So recognizeable to any man.

"My dear, need you to serve as a personal psychologist and confirmation buddy only, all the real fun (read: sex) is something I've reserved for all the other men out there".

Re: But if we started dating it would ruin our friendship...

that is why you have to treat girls like shit in the beginning.. If you don't you get turned into that.. I used to treat all girls like shit until I met this one that I really liked. Then I got called a brother and I realized in grade 7 that girls like the guy that treats her like shit.

Re: But if we started dating it would ruin our friendship...

I have the same experience man...trying to please them is only going to get you into the 'buddy' position. The typical thing is that i've not been interested in a relationship for a while now, nor in one-night stands. So now that I really don't want anything, I get offers all the time. It's just frustrating, I want girls to flock like that when i'm horny and in desperate need of long hot steamy sex

Re: Shiva's life story

Well, all my friends are guys, and they all know I am happily married since 16yrs and still greatly in love with my hubby....besides the fact that my friends are also his friends, and he earns their respect.

So no, I dont get into the "lets just be friends" type of situation...anymore.

But on a personal note guys, if she doen't want to be with you (and act like a brother-sister type of deal), then she is not meant to be yours to begin with....and life goes on.

I know what you guys are on about...although not all girls are like that. If they wanna play silly games or they usually get told to fuck off. I admittedly had bad experiences but the important thing is that I have learned from them...now I am very happy in my current relationship.

Re: Shiva's life story

Women are messed up complicated creatures and I blame it on Cosmopolitan and Sex and the City.

You can say all you want about men, but we're ultimately simple creatures. Beer, blowjobs, tits, asses.

As I see it, is that the battle of the sexes turned into all that equality shit which has then gone the extreme and men are now defined by what women say about them even though we continue existing as we were and doing what we do.

The problem arises because women's ideas and what they want, are so confused they no longer marry with the reality of what they see.

(you can tell I've had my share of psycho women)

Re: Shiva's life story

^^^ Strangely enough I agree with a fair bit of that. Women tend to look for deeper meanings in everything, whereas men are very much of the moment.

One thing though, I have always valued my male friends and have always had more male friends than female. Part of that is that men let me rabbit on about music. Women even look for more meaning in other women

Re: Shiva's life story
Can you be tired of being you??? What kinda question is that ?? Hell NO....I'm NOT tired of being complimented....on the contrary, I'M FLATTERED.....:)
ok, let me try one more time... I think rainman's point was relevant.

There is a difference between the periodic compliment from someone who truly finds you to be beautiful vs. constant skin deep puppy-like worship from a bunch of horny guys for being hot. The former involves an admirer who speaks from the heart and tends to elicit a similar, more heart-felt response from the recipient. The latter is basically why we have Paris Hilton and her oversized ego as an international celebrity now.

I have my opinions on which is preferable, but to each his/her own, I suppose... Anyways. What started as a simple humor article is now a full-blown sociological analysis.

#1231861Post 34 of 162

Re: His life story

Well for me it remains a humour, it remains funny.

But I don't understand why some people tend to accentuate on the physical beauty, mine in this particular case....why to mention all that in the first place?? Especially knowing that nobody can control what people say or think, whether it is a nice or ugly compliment. Some comments make me think that I should feel "bothered" by the compliments people tend to make: its not something new to me, its not that i need it coz I know who and what I am, and most of all: I CANNOT CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE SAY OR THINK.

Beauty is very relative, but it is universal. Any woman will always happily receive all kinds of compliments and as often as they come.

This is also why we are called WOMEN...maybe some here don't get my point.

Paris Hilton...well my own thought about that lady is that the world envy her for what she is: uglily & filthily rich and powerful, and anybody would like to be in her shoes....hence all that attention and criticism towards her (IMO). The more critics are launched at her the more envy there is towards her. Had you had all those xillion of dollars she has in ur bank account, you would/could easily afford to have an ego as big as that account, even bigger.

(or maybe I should open a thread beging people stop making me compliments..... :D )
at first i was going to apologize for you misunderstanding my comment, then thought why should i apologize, i simply asked a question that you obviously didn't understand.

ok, where to begin as there is much light that needs to be shed here. lets go one sentence at a time from your response.

yes, men find women attractive and vice/versa; however, beauty is NOT universal. case in point:

no doubt that either of these two don't love each other tho. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which is not universal.

jealous? hardly. not the jealous type and if i were, what would there be to be jealous of? don't understand your comment regarding jealousy. jealous that other guys make themselves look like more of an ass than i do by making comments such as:
Shiva's obviously had to deal with the "let's just be friends" scenario more than many women than you or I know who have.
i do agree that no one has control of what they are given to work with; whether it be physical appearance or their social skills. (or lack there of) i guess this also goes for the guys who do in fact offer compliments, not actually to be giving compliments but, to get your attention as they aren't aware of their douchery in said comments.

to make the comment "In case you don't know, there is nothing I can do about it" would suggest some form of a demeaning tone from you being upset by not understanding the question being asked by myself; but to be stated after "No disrespect raindude" is somewhat of an oxymoron, no?

look the other way? why would i do that? if you are attractive, odds are that i am going to look, or even pay you a heartfelt comment as i am known to do. this is much different that having someone kiss your ass, there is a difference. having someone tell you that you look good, have beautiful eyes, etc would be a compliment. statements such as:
Shiva's obviously had to deal with the "let's just be friends" scenario more than many women than you or I know who have.
is ass kissery at it's finest.

so my question was do you get tired of people kissing your ass because you are hot? not do you get tired of all the compliments you get becasue you are attractive? no one is asking you to control what other people say or think. i was simply asking does it get old because it annoys me to have people kiss my ass on the regular.
and hey, beauty NEVER DIES, so don't bet on it to get old.
beauty dies....it's called age, it happens when you get old; this is also something we have no control over.

i suppose i should extend some form of an olive branch as i try not to make enemies with anyone. i merely asked a question, wasn't judging you or questioning your self worth. please don't hate me shiv, i may need to trip over my own tongue to get you to notice me some day.

#1231924Post 37 of 162

Re: His life story

^ Why should you apologize? Nothing offensive was said, you just said what u had in your mind, which I might have misunderstood in the begining....I felt like you were bothered (and that I should feel bothered as well) of people making me compliments...

However, i have few points to argue here:

Beauty is not universal u say??! Maybe we are not talking about the same universalities here....the pic that u showed is not beauty, and I guess we both agree on that, which means that beauty IS universal. The sun rising: if I find it beautiful, and if you find it beautiful and if he finds it beautiful, then it is universal.

To you beauty and age cannot coexist?? Its like saying all old people are ugly, for instance... Every age has its beauty and magic, whether the twenties or the eighties... Aging doesn't mean ugly, it means aging only. Beauty can be preserved in aging, it happens with cars, tracks, wine, body, faces, books, movies and countless other things as well, and the same goes for women AND men. Actually some people get to be more more beautiful as they grow is age...

Beauty dies??!!!

Edit: And where is the limit between making a simple compliment and "kiss a$$", as you put it....where is the limit between those 2, and who sets it? A simple compliment can be "kiss a$$"....lol

Re: His life story

I'm gonna come right out and say this: Any thread revolving looks, sex, beauty, Shiva--turns into what we have here. There is always some sort of miscommunication mis-translation going on. It's clear she has different perceptions on these issues from most of us, and I think it's a fine example of the point rainman raised.
