Re: James Lavelle - Global Underground 37 Bangkok
Totally agree mate, I'm not just dissing Lavelle here. Seems most mix comps these days have 'dj's own interpretation's' and 'unreleased mix' tracks on them. What happened to just finding 25 good tunes and whacking them together?
I raised this on GU and most people just got offencive and called me a dick. But marcus did reply with this
the reason for this whole grey area between comps / artist comps is because there are so many bootleg live recordings out there. you can get hold of your favourite dj, playing a current, straight set pretty easily these days. you prob won't track sales, but labels do, and the writing is on the wall for 2cd compilations that are simple reflections of club sets. consumers are screaming for a difference in these albums, which is why you're seeing alternate routes like this. i know djs have pioneered compilation concepts in the pre-digital days, hawtin obviously springs to mind, but djs are having to get more creative out of necessity now. it's undoubtedly what gave rise to joris voorn, or bringing it back home, jz's electic masters offering. personally, i don't think it's any bad thing...
Pity Marcus James doesn't make proper posts on here - he's got tremendous insight as well as being a bloody good DJ.

Yeah puts the odd post on here but it tends to be Renaissance promotion stuff. Maybe as the GU board slowly dies we will see more him and Nick Warren

Is the GU board slowly dying because they're running out of bile LOL ?

I don't really agree with Marcus's point of view. I am personally not screaming out for something different, I just want something good!

I think a lot of people have just got fed up with the way users constantly try and be as obnoxious as possible to each other. I wonder some times if some of the users are there just to troll be board and have no interest in music. The one thing we don't want is them obnoxious idiots coming here. But i imagine if they did they would probably get banned before long.

Yeh ... strictly no trolling allowed - this needs to be a safe place for the likes of Super to exist and be respected !

... oh make that, at the very least exist

^

That GU board almost has a "high school" vibe to it. Wonder what the avg age and education levels are over there, bet both are low.

Re: James Lavelle - Global Underground 37 Bangkok

i dont really agree with marcus either... sure some live dj sets do surface but they are pretty rare and far between. if you think about it, the big name DJ's dj at a new place almost once or twice a week, and we are lucky to get 1 live set a year from them, either via a leak at the club or through a radio broadcast.

if GU wanted to make money, they would release a CD with an mp3 version of the actual GU night a long with the so called 'inspired' cd compilation... i would gladly pay 20-30 bucks for that no problem. i think a lot of us would actually prefer a live dj set to a cd mixed in a studio anyway.
