Re: Swine Flu

I liv here in Mexico and is panic all over the place, the clinic I work at is closed, no movie theathers , no restaurants , no clubs ,

nothing to do ...

#1208901Post 22 of 84

Re: Swine Flu

This is pathetic, this flu has got nothing to do with eating pig meat.

This is in fact a human virus which just happened to have it´s origins, like most flu strains, in pigs.

So it really means fuck all at this point to start killing every pig in existence.

Re: Swine Flu

Not to mention people who are now grocery shopping are panicking over produce from Mexico...

Re: Swine Flu

its the same with bird flu ... eating it won't catch it but handling the animal is a different story .. i think its a big thing now because it originated from the West. if it had started from some backward town in some Asian country in the East probably nobody would give a rat's ass until its a full blow epidemic

the bird flu virus is still around but its controlled now i think but it didn't get as much coverage in the media when it first broke

but somehow the way its spreading now reminds me of the game that someone posted awhile back .. the one where you create a virus to wipeout the entire population

The difference to bird flu is that this is a different strain, it has an extremely high mortality rate, and unlike H5N1 (bird flu), this H1N1 is making victims amongs young aged adults which should supposedly have a more well-developed immunitary system than the elderly and children who were more affected by H5N1.

This is the same strain as the "Spanish Flu" which happened in 1918 and which actually killed more people than the preceding Great War, and which was thought of to be generally dormant.

Re: Swine Flu

i can't believe how big a deal people are making this into. its the flu. it is no worse than any other flu. it is simply a new strain. you should only worry if you are a small child, an old fart or have a weak immune system. otherwise it will run its course. let them create a vaccine. things will be better.

and i hope i'm not proven wrong.....

Re: Swine Flu

Fuck they just said that nobody is allowed tomorrow out of their house ...

seriously I think this is all a recupercussion from what happened many years ago here , with the typhus fever.

The government tried to hide it , and then it killed many people so now they are making this bigger that what it actually is.

 1. Not all flus are created equal. Yes, it's just the flu - except much more virulent and with a significantly higher mortality rate than what you're thinking of. Ever hear of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918? That was the flu too, and by conservative estimates it killed at least 20 million people worldwide.

 2. Most people killed by it have been young, otherwise seemingly healthy people. This demographic mortality trend was supposedly quite distinctly witnessed in the 1918 pandemic, too. The medical theory is that in young people most of the damage ultimately ends up being caused by an overreaction of the immune system, called a "cytokine storm".

Re: Swine Flu

^ i haven't done any real research so thanks for the update. :) i stand corrected. i had heard about that virus in 1918 but i've read that even this isn't the same exact straing as the one that killed a lot back in 1918. i PRAY it doesn't get that bad. you gotta think how much we've developed since 1918 too though. we are much more advanced and way more equipped to deal with this than 90 years ago. they probably barely even knew what the common flu was back then and advised you to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes to combat it. /sarcasm

hopefully if you take appropriate precautions, the chances that you contract this swine flu are minimized greatly.

never heard of it. where is it?? sounds good!

Re: Swine Flu

looks good! for another good suggestion while on the topic, i have always been a fan of fat matt's bbq. they have killer bbq and occassionally some kick ass blues bands.

i feel a bit inappropriate talking about pork bbq in a swine flu thread... lol

I've yet to try fat matts, but hear great things. Too far from me. Would love to go especially for the blues music. I have been to Maddys a few times which has some unbelievable pork.

Re: Swine Flu
hopefully if you take appropriate precautions, the chances that you contract this swine flu are minimized greatly.
Probably so. I'm not suggesting that we need to start freaking out... The odds of survivability are strongly in your favor. I read that epidemiologists estimated the 1918 outbreak at a case fatality rate of less than 2.5%.

There's always something out there waiting to kill us. :)
