CD 2 is where its at for me. Really good...
Though I'm partial to disc 1 just for the Danny Howells track. He played that shit at BED in miami and it was fucking awesome.

^^ 'kin awesome isn't it !
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
^^^ Seriously?
Yeah.
The first 15 minutes of disc one nearly made stop listening to this. It reminded me why I gradually started look outside prog in 2004 when it all started to be this wishy washy boring floating shit. Surprise surprise they're all Cattaneo-productions. I rate and respect him as a DJ but I've never liked any of his productions.
Things start to pick up with Stoppage Time and the rest of CD 1 is actually really good. Only Cattaneo mix I can think right now that actually sounds a bit edgy.
CD 2 just bored me to tears until last 30 minutes or so which I also liked though it came short of the last 55 minutes of CD 1.
It's all a matter of opinion and I'm not here to flame or troll but Hernan hasn't really interested me since his first Master Series where I thought he tried to break a bit outside the prog barriers. CD 1 of that is my favorite Cattaneo-disc probably although South America and his Ministry CD from 2001 are also cherished.
His sound is maybe a bit too smooth for me. It all goes together so well that it sounds like a prog version of Hawtin's Transitions cd which I never got into either. He seems to me to lack any sort of edge or intensity. I do like when he bangs it out a'la the essential mix from Homelands (?) from 2002 which is awesome. But his deep stuff just puts me to sleep.
The mix was worth the money for getting the new Guy J-tracks when I bought it from iTunes though. Bianca is really really good. And the first track on CD 2 is just stunning although I could never play that one out.

Best part of the mix:
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
Different strokes for different folks I guess :) I love the first three tracks, I thought it took a slide at Stoppage time  One of the reasons I love his music is the passion and intensity I find in it. :)
My favourite up to date would be Masters 2 , we will see how this current one stands the test of time. It could end up top of the list. :D
Yeah that first track cd2 is just beautiful :D

I looooove this:
Applescal – Describe The Doc (Hernan Cattaneo & Martin Garcia Remix)
A real '99 Oakenfold Space EM summer vibe to it ... in an absolutely fantastic way !
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
I can see Homegrove's point to an extent. I love Hernan's sets, but there are times when he will play a track, or a series of track that really do not interest me at all. They seem to be very 'stop-start' and are not particularly memorable. Other times he will get into a real techy groove that doesn't interest me either - his 2nd CD of his 1st ever Masters release is a case in point - the Morgan page track goes on for ages and the tracks around it are not that interesting either.
However, there are times when he nails it, especially when he plays more 4/4 stuff e.g. the whole of Masters 2.

Sorry guys :p To be honest it could be my 6 months old kids signature, but hey, I got lucky.
Only had a chance to check out disk 1, like what I heard so far. Really like the Stoppage Time remix, and it's nowhere near the best track, so that's gotta be a good sign
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
hernan was amazing last night. he played 6 hours of PURE Progressive House... loved every tune .everything was just perfect.. that groove he s got ..that beautifull melody ... played some tunes of the renaissance :twisted:
he dropped 2 killers rmx of radiohead - nude and bjork - paga poetry (unkown rmx)
the cd is lovely specially the 2nd
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
^^ sounds amazing + you get nude & pagan poetry too ... wow !
Wish he played 6 hour sets over here.

disc 1 of his first masters cd is my favorite thing he has ever done...
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
hard to believe there are some people who dont think this is a good comp. for me its a masterpice from start to finish. incredible programming and build up. deep and melodic. progressive at its best
imo its the best comp that has come out since jimmy van m bedrock.
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
^^^ My preference has always been for live sets, they just seem to capture the feeling more, compilations feel too planned. This actually manages to be immaculately planned , but still have all the life of a live set. It's huge!! I love it. :D
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
Finally got one of my real copies :D No more robot voice.
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown

^^Have you sorted out your copy yet ??
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
Na, gonna let the pure exhilaration of waiting for it to hit our music stores drive me to drinking large quantities of alcohol ....

I have yet to pick up my copy of JVM's bedrock.. its been on my list for ages  Sometimes the plenthora of live sets has its disadvantages...
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
^^^ You can never have too much music. :D
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown

Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
!?!?!?!?!??! You have been missing out on A LOT of music
True... but its hard to keep up .. I kinda go through phases of different genres of music.. I was practically off EDM in 2008. I just needed something different to get me going I guess...
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
JVM's Bedrock was released in 2001 ;)
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
^^^ Yes yes.. lol
I guess the above didn't really come out right... another way off putting it would be - because of my love/hate relationship with EDM over the years, I end up missing out on some gems..

Did you give it a proper listen?? I just find it hard to believe you arent feeling this music
imo this is some of the best music put together on a comp possibly ever. I am just in love with both cds.
Re: Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance Master Series 3: countdown
Haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but Hideo Kobayashi - Amarillo is :D
