I have been added to this group on myspace, "femme on decks": I count 62 females djs....yea!!!

I have alot of sets from RoMix and Laura Seh. When they play together they go by "FeMMes on Decks." Have posted quite a few on here. They both play some really nice tech-house imo. Pretty big in South America I think.

Thank you so much for your support Herre (K), and it is always my pleasure to make quality sets.
The thing is that female mixers tend to have negative reputation although I am sure there are some very good and valid female dj among these ones. I haven't had the chance to hear any female mix yet... We need to have that prejudice against female djs removed, I have been always working that.
Btw does anyone know if there is another dark prog female dj among them?

Ida Engberg is really good. she played one of my favorite sets from sunday school. she plays minimal.

^ Exactly... I donno, but I feel some female djs tends to use their physical beauty WHILE performing, during a gig. And I don't understand that, and even I appreciate less the artist and won't take her seriously anymore (imo). Beauty won't make a female a better dj, on the contrary it might even play against her.

Oh yeah, there's definitely a lot that play up to that and use it to get gigs. There's a market for it but they'll never get took seriously.

If I wanna see titties I'll go to a nudiebar. Most DJ's in that group appear to be rather serious though if you ask me...but maybe you're just quite unique in your dark deep style Shiva. Should be proud of that :D.

Actually, my sister is a DJ and quite sucessful over here, she won a "Best Newcomer" award of some sort in 2006.
She plays stuff more on the deep/soulful house tip though.
But what makes me really proud of her is the fact that she has always worked hard for her dream, never compromised to the point of using physical assets to earn anything, she did it purely based on talent, and I love it when I go see her play and in the beginning there´s these morons going for the usual "take it off" bullshit, and sometime later they´re invariably paying attention to the music, dancing their asses off and saying she´s good.

Back in the day.. one of my favs was Sandra Collins.. not sure if and what she is still spinning.. but all her sets back then were banging!!!

There are lots of good, legit female DJs out there. They're usually the ones who, for starters, tend to actually keep their clothes on.

The fact that women choose to define themselves as female dj's or be a part of a group called "femme on decks" nullifies your cry for acceptance because you are no longer 'just' a dj you have defined your selves as female dj's...I am all for equality but you gotta practice what you preach.

Its like a textbook case of self labeling. Think what you will but I don't judge dj skills on the base of sex and I don't think that should ever come into equation. So those half naked women dj-ing are equal in my eyes to those who define themselves as women before defining themselves as dj's. I don't see the need for that particular categorisation at all. I wasn't aware of ANY sexual discrimination in the dj world...do you get less bookings because you're a girl? I would have thought not.
Anyway its just my personal opinion on the matter. I dislike pretty much all societal classifications and divissions. This is just another one on the list.
