Ok guys, I wasn´t sure about posting this here, and it is kinda cheesy, but I need you people´s expertise on this.

I´ve posted a few sets in the P&R section for quite some time and those of you that have heard them know that I usually play a quite dark and techy/proggy sound. But now I want to do something different just for my g/f, without turning it into a cheese fest.

So I´d love it if you guys could name me a few progressive-leaning tracks with vocals on them. I´m talking about stuff like :

Jasefos feat. Claire Sky - Do What U Want (Infusion Remix) Reflekt feat. Delline Bass - Need To Feel Loved Creamer & K - Wish You Were Here Powerplant - With Or Without You

It doesn´t matter if it´s new or old, I´d just like to hear about stuff that has vocals, is proggy and emotional, without being tacky or cheesy.

Yeah, I know that a DJ should do his homework, but I don´t usually play this style and I´d like to be able to do this in a couple of weeks, so help a brotha out!

Cheers and thanx 8)

Yeah I guess that´s the end of that, I´ll probably just record WMP playing that shit in a loop.

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

two of my favs atm are from Ben Watt - Guinea Pig (Vocal Variation Mix feat Julia Biel) and Jimmy Van M - My Eyes feat Steve T (2am JVM and Marc Mitchell Mix). You can mix them back to back and it sounds pretty good if you do it right.

And seeing Moloko in your list, I can't help but be reminded of:
a Sasha Space Terrace track
Indeed! The first time I heard the track was when Sasha dropped it, not in Space, but in Athens during a Digweed & Sasha night. I swear when I heard that track for the first time I was in love with the whole room! And I wasn't even drunk or high
Good call on that François K remix. :D
Glad you like it! It's another personal favorite. First listened to it on John's show, from April 11 2003:
01. Dils - Miser [CDR] 02. Kevin Freeman - Music is My Life [Low Pressings] 03. Moloko - Forever More (Francois K & Eric Kupper Remix) 04. Joshua Ryan - Buildings In Between (Luke Fair mix) 05. ADD - Use Only The Drugs [Loaded] 06. Peter Gun - The Chase [Millennium] 07. P Diddy v Deep Dish - Lets Get Ill [White Label]
An excellent mix from start to finish. I would also suggest the 'Buildings In Between' track that is right after Moloko, but there's no vocals on it ...

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

There's a ton of really good DM remixes by James Zabiela, Danny Tenaglia, Josh Wink, Deep Dish and more. Tons of great vocal track/remixes.

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

Yep, both for them and for Dave Gahan solo tracks.

Sure will!

Thanks to what people have recomended here, I´ve already got a whole bunch of stuff and I´m still looking for more, but I guess I´ll be done in a couple of weeks.

It´s gonna be quite different from what I usually play so it´s kind of a challenge for me too.

Sweet, how could I forget Rapture, every girl likes that one.

Speaking of Junkie XL, there´s also Beauty Never Fades, but I´m kind of sick of that one.

Fucking amazing. That and Science Dept. 'Breathe' and Freefall 'Skydive' would be my top 3. Not exactly new though

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

Well, one thing´s for sure, I have my work cut out for the track selection!

Turns out I know most of these, but it´s been great remembering them, most of them are real classics. Some people like their prog vocal-less, and sometimes vocals can ruin a track, but I think all of these are great examples that it´s not always like that.

Oh and it doesn´t really matter if they´re new or not, this set is for someone who doesn´t listen to prog-house, so no hold-ups on that.

#1150717Post 32 of 131

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

not really word vocals.. but how about chilling moments!

#1150724Post 33 of 131

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

Sarah McLachlan - Fallen (Satoshi Tomiie interpretation) is a good one too

Evanescence - Bring Me To Life (Vsag & Andrew K remix)

Vocals are tricky on prog tunes, and depending on when you got into prog, a lot of vocals some of us dig will sound cheesy to say people who got into prog when it was dark. If you went earlier back, tracks like Ultraviolet - Kites or even Morgan King's I'm free or Chakra - I am, Blue Amazon - When the rain falls or Perfecto - Not over yet will sound downright cheesy when held up to the deep prog or music today.

How about something more downbeat like Secondhand Satellites - Beautiful Strange? There's also Trentemoller - Moan?

Male vocals I'd suggest BPT - Moody, Morel - True (The Faggot Is You), 16B feat, Morel - Escape (Driving to Heaven) and anything with Quivver/Stoneproof on vocals. Not a lot of male vocals belong on prog tracks (Creamer n K's I Love You was uber cheese), but those ones do.

Oh just came across on youtube. Lexicon Avenue - From Dusk Till Dawn. Top notch production on that one even though the vocal is verging on cheese.

#1150743Post 35 of 131

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals

yeah! I've been playing driving to heaven a bit lately.. great track

medway - release (lexicon ave) and Li'sha - That's Why I'm Here (Lexicon Avenue Dubs)

#1150744Post 36 of 131

Re: Help wanted - Progressive trax with vocals
