Dear [ms] crew

I'm just listening to Diggers 4-hours from Club Yellow 2001 - my question for the discerning [ms] crew is this - is Yellow (Space Lab) 2001 JD's coolest and best Kiss100 broadcasted live set ?

For me it has several key elements - it's from a very fine period in a long and highly productive (and flourishing) DJ'ing career, it's from a time that "Progressive House" was at a peak, from a highly cool and exotic club (whose closure merely adds to the mysticallity) - and crucially it comes in at 4-hours making it very much a proper set (rather than 1-hour excerpt a la Twilo), full of dark progressive driving beats that deleops and evolves, evoking the feel of GU 019 LA. Bloody hell, even the japanese girl doing the intro sounds cool !

If you've missed this set what have you been listening too all this time ?

Man I remember the 4-parter ... downloading them every week was like finding gold, waiting for a chance to listen to everything in one orgasmic go.

Yeah why isn't Dubai on the list? Or are we only counting 'official' broadcasts?

I vaguely remember Avalon, Fabric, Twilo, Cavo Paradiso and Pawn shop sets to be noteworthy.

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

Totally agree that Club Yellow set was the best live mix or one of the best. The tracks, timing and yes even the Japanese girl intros are amazing. Digweed's evil, dark sound was really taking off at that time. I believe he ranked # 1 that year in the DJ mag poll. I saw him play live in either '00 or '01 and his set just blew me away. Definitely one of the best DJ sets I ever saw.

I actually miss the old Kiss intros.

I remember hearing this set and thinking damn it'd be nice to check Digweed out in Tokyo with a dancefloor of Japanese babes.

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

I didn't think it was a track? I thought it was just something they put together for the show.

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

ok ok ok ok. I got it. I got the BEST intro EVER into a really fucking great live mix.

see if you remember this one

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls lesbians and homosexuals....make some goddaaaamnnnn noiiiiseeeeee!"

LOL ... I hate that , and the other day I actually edited the file to remove the 1st two minutes so it goes straight into Sasha & Digweed Bedrock - DJ Award set ! For me he could have played 2 mins more music ... I'm also not a fan of the fire alarm on the awesome Twilo birthday hour.

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

the bedrock bday party in 01 i think, whatever the essential mix one was back then. the 2nd hour just goes there.

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

good one, but i have a few that beat it imo.(although the transistion from jas belly into the enxt song is remarkable)

 1. homelands with sasha 01
 2. bedrock b-day where he played the zabeila remix into depeche mode/lexicon avenue, and later response into compass error remix
 3. have a personal favorite in the one where he dropped the xpress2+david byrne track. fucking love that song and couldnt ever find it.

serious ? Part 2 has ALWAYS been my fav, that track 5 "Unknown" .... that right there is digweed's black box record. Shit that prolly still has not seen the light of day.

And yes this club yellow 4 parter is probably THE BEST diggerz mix to make its way to the web

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

I think the flow between 1 & 2 is fantastic .. plus Diggers drops Tone Depth's - Rumble Fish for some lushness ... inspired !

Yeh ..just official Kiss100 sets (at least we know they are real !) - people regularly play the essential mixes and S & D stuff - I'm trying to generate interest on the old kiss stuff and see what gems have been underappreciated because we got bombarded with so many goodies at the time.

From what you have said you vaguely remember some sets, but don't play them ... it's a chance for you to re-visit them and let us know which is your fav and why .. that may lead others to check out the sets.

I was always partial to this one. It wasn't supposed to be shared, and someone leaked it, and he ended up playing it on his show to spite the bootleggers.

Great tunes, great mixing. The cds spent an awful lot of time in my car that summer.

I'll give Yellow a try, because I don't remember it, but it will be very hard to unseat Eastern Exposure.

if anyone has heard it, he mentions in part 4 that there are in fact MORE parts, but he was going to move on to other stuff unless he had a ton of people continue to request those additional parts.

i wonder if he's got those parts still, and better, if we could start a petition for him to play them on a transitions set?

^ honestly, i can't even fucking imagine what is on those last 4 hours. holy fuck. holy fuck.

btw kamal, i just finished listening to party II. It's growing on me but it is nowhere near as cool as part 4. I feel rumblefish is misplaced in the set. just my own observation. i think he could have left it out and mixed the track before it and after it together. I LOVE the track at 11 minutes in tho!

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

DigJohn can be predictable n' surprising at the same time, IMO. i think the last 4 hours would have been riddled with more consecutive pr0gstormers from that era perhaps.

still, it would be nice to hear that 4 hr. extension..

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!

Glad you re-hashed this one Simon. Listened to the full 4 straight thru this afternoon. Would love to hear more cuz for me it's a marathon not a sprint with Digweed and by the end I'm craving more. i definitely need to devote more time to his music because to be honest he's always been second choice to me. Sasha stuff has always been played first and honestly I'm not sure the reason. I think John has always been more consistent over the years where as Sasha has many peaks and valleys. But those peaks imo are just a step above anything else. Don't want insinuate the old Sasha vs Diggers because it's apples and oranges. Rambling Sorry:oops: Amazing set nonetheless.

#1111019Post 39 of 108

Re: John Digweed - is "Club Yellow 2001" his greatest live kiss100 set: discuss !!
