Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

well, i just landed back home in calgary. talk about a blur of a trip. i still don't even have words for how awesome friday night (and well, WELL into saturday) was.

digweed at several points during the night had me losing it completely. there werent words for what he threw down. utter madness! i got to chat with him at the end (the security were being not so discrete about their desire for us to get the fuck out of the club). told him it was worth the flight from calgary and more, to which he said a big thanks.

thought it was funny when he came on the mic after the last track, which he kinda just faded out...and was like "thanks. i just can't play anymore". think that was the club shutting him down, cause he obviously wanted to keep going!

huge thanks to everyone i met, andy, greg, simon, mo, chris, and anyone i'm forgetting. great group, really looked out for me, being half jet lagged and not used to such an experience.

i will be back!

more later. my 9 and half hour flight back has pretty much destroyed me lol. my back and feet were screwed up after the show, but the flight put me over the top. a hot tub and a beer are in order.

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

Imense night, digweed really played well. I've seen better, but for a 10year set it was top notch all night.

Shame it couldn't have continued another 3 hours as I think Digweed had planned. I suspect those 3 extra hours would have been something else, something to really tell your Grandkids about.

Matter might be the best club in London, shame it;s a souless concrete shopping center.
Wow  U were at Matter and not Heaven right?
Matter.
:shock::shock: ... out of interest what Digweed sets do you like Foreks ?? For many the mixing was seemless and the blend of tracks (new & old) absolutely inspired. I remember on commenting to Chunky how fresh the old stuff sounded - music can be timeless and the renaissance/NE/Communicate tracks are still awesome today. Dunno what you were expecting mate ... but sorry you didn't enjoy things.
expected some schedule, programming? I know that was a tiresome set and a celebration, but for me to be honest sounded like a random compilation.

I am probably one of the the oldest Digweed chasers around here, got all his available sets and have to tell you I'm disappointed.

however, I missed my scheduled plane and took another late BA flight to Heathrow. took a direct taxi around midnight to Matter and was rather tired.

best regards to all dudes from around the dj's booth I've got to see at any Digweed gig from years.

especially those from August Amnesia night 8)

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

I actually like the way he placed the tracks. I thought he was just going to play his usual set (The Tracks He's Playing At The Moment) and then spent the last few hours playing a load of the older tracks. Which to be honest i don't really like. I liked the fact he mixed it up a bit through the night. They didnt seem out of place to me.

I had a great night. Meeting people from here was a bonus. It was nice meeting Simon, Adam, Jeff, Andy H & D'Zone. I much prefer spending my time with people who are enthusiastic about the seine and these guy's definitely where enthusiastic. No doom & gloom about it being better in the good old days. I enjoyed every minute i was in there. It really was an amazing night, that just fueled my existing enthusiasm.

#1100679Post 57 of 140

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

Well said chunky ... it was a night that really re-lit my enthusiasm for the music and it showed just how many timeless tracks there are - fuck those Communicate-era tracks sounded awesome on that system.

Respect to JD ... unfortunately Sasha's lazy, if he did a similiar night I don't think I'd be able to cope with just how good the music would be !!

see the wiki entry on global for the actual reasoning. finally , they pu tit up.

has to do with how the north american releases were labeled. there are actually sasha san fran covers with 002 on em. and digweed sydney 001. oakie as 003.

I too loved the way he was suddenly break out into a classic track, i thought they were well placed. I remember dancing for ages to solid house tunes that i had never heard before, then suddenly Roaches came on! Genius!

I know but remember some rant someone on the GU borad went into about a 10 CD GU Twilo set, that came in a pink box. It was CLASS. :D

#1100836Post 65 of 140

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

nope. was intended (idea pitched, crew showed up) to be a 6 CD set. back in day, even the GU crew admitted to recording a night there. but then again, on the interweb.. strange things occur.

back to business...

doesnt digweed realize how much money he could make releasing a multi - CD copy of this nights set. easily a 2-3 million sales capability.

#1100840Post 66 of 140

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

yeah i would buy it.....

#1100898Post 67 of 140

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

It would only get bought by SERIOUS fans...like us. But hell guys. We get 6 hours sets from him at least once a year for free. Why complain.

Lol, I actually sent him a thank you email via you tube yesterday as realised that the vast majority of vids are his including that one with Mouth to Mouth on it. How the hell does he just stand there and record all those awesome moments? :what

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)
Highlight for me was Apollo 440, thought Diggers lost it later on (around 430 - 5ish til i left at 7). Loved all the classic early on and the club is amazing. Go for the dance floor, when that bass hits your chest and your feet at the same time it is out of this world. Had a great night, roll on the next one!
That's funny, I really enjoyed the set from 4:30 onwards. To me it felt like up until that point it was like "yeah, let's have a celebration", but from that point on the thing got very very serious. Incidentally, around that time the lights went out for the first time (indeed, too much light in the main room), which I really enjoyed in combination with the atmospheric track John was playing at the moment. From that point on it was pure aural pleasure.

Shame I had to live around 6:45 and didn't stay till the end.

Also, anyone can id that slow track with deep male vocals "I need happiness, I want happiness". Insane breakdown! Think it's on some Sat. night show as well.

And btw, underground music never dies baby, we 're just like roaches.

Re: Report : Digweed @ Bedrock 10th Birthday (Matter)

guys, i have some bad news...the pics i took at the gig are toast.

was having issues with my camera a couple weeks ago and ended up replacing a memory card which i thought was the problem. turns out my camera has gone from something that takes pictures to something that fries memory cards. fun! when the guy at the sony store told me this, i literally threw the thing off the london bridge (to the extreme bewilderment of those standing around me). sincere appologies, really gutted i lost those pictures, but this just gives me another excuse to come back!

anyways...

bit more of a review

london: awesome city, really enjoyed it. i got supremely lucky with the weather (so i'm told) in that it was sunny and warm the entire time, which is not the norm for this time of year. got to see alot of touristy stuff, but in london this usually is worthwhile. really love the architecture of the city...

sweet jesus its expensive though! from food to transportation to housing, don't know how you people afford it there!

matter: fantastic club. end of. really enjoyed the fact that it wasn't a million degrees, and that (at least on the stage area) there was plenty of room to dance. that was one of my biggest concerns about the night was that it would be so packed as to be a problem. soundsystem is world class...only thing i've heard that compares is the system at stereo in montreal. agree with the comments that the lights were too bright at times, but that was a minor detail. people were extremely friendly, and most if not all were there for the music. very, very impressed.

ps. as far as all these girls you guys mention...you didn't happen to catch any of there names? fuck if i can remember...

diggers: what can i say, the videos pretty much speak for themselves. the night was pure bliss for any digweed fan. i don't know when the next time we're gonna get to hear him play some of those tracks is...but i tell you this, i will be there! it definitely made it up in some small way that i never got to see him and sasha in twilo. roaches set me off like a fucking firecracker.

loved all the remixes of the classics as well, some were very well done. particularly the remix of heaven scent caught me totally off guard. i've never been as keen on that track as some, but when it came out of nowhere...talk about a moment. some muppet at the end of the show kept yelling out "heaven scent, john, heaven scent!" and he was like..."ya i already played it". the look on his face was hysterical.

all and all, a fantastic trip. we're gonna have to make this sort of thing a tradition...
