No the clicky stuff and the electro house stuff were played out in late 2005 in my opinion the best DJ's are the one who play all sorts of styles, prog, house, techno, trance, dnb, minimal, electronica, whatever, look at Laurent Garnier, he plays anything and everything, to boot his radio show is pretty leftfield musically. If you want to relive the good ol daze, go right ahead but to say trance is on the forefront of fresh sounding music is to lie to oneself. T T T T T Toca me.............

I'm a firm believer that there are only two types of music: good and bad. I bet there's even a country song out there that I would like... I've yet to find it but am nevertheless a firm believer that it's out there.

I don't know how you got from my post that i said trance is the forefront of fresh sounding music m8.
The best DJ's don't necessarily play all sorts of styles. Hell, digweed could play tekno all night and sound incredible. I know cox, on occassion, will play straight up house. The best DJ's always keep the floor moving, the jaws dropping, and the clientelle returning.
Re: Trance Music
Oakenfold's GU:007 disc one is one of my most listened to ever AND it's appalingly mixed which means the music must be even better to warrant so many listens. It's mostly trance, and entirely brilliant.

so you mean djs like sasha & digweed,pan-pot,m.a.n.d.y,tiefschwarz,and lee burridge to name a few are playing crappy music??check some of their recent sets and you'll probably find some minimal & techy stuff on them.
Re: Trance Music
well if you compare it against everything they were playing 6-10 years ago..........YES!
Re: Trance Music
so tracks like gridlock, coma, charly, etc are crap?? I just dont get.people come on here thinking these tracks are the best thing since xpander and heaven sent.
Re: Trance Music
I bet that the average age of a trance raver is much less than a prog/minimal one. What does that suggest?
Funny observation. DEMF 08. Benny Benassi played during the day and when wakling by the tent I noticed how packed it was. It was disgusting and hilarious. Way to many PLUR'ed out, sweaty, sloppy, candi kids crammed into the tent. Everyone was just getting shoved around like an ocean of slop.
Later that night Richie Hawtin played the Beatport stage. What a difference. The crowd was so much more civilized. Everyone stayed spread out enough for dancing and movement. Hardly saw any candi or other such paraphernalia. You could tell the crowd was acutally into the music and enjoying themselves instead of eating as many pills as possible and getting retarted.

gridlock is a great track. perhaps it's been so highly thought of is because it is reminiscent of that era of sound, and for the fact that it stands out, on its own, as an amazing track.
I don't even think charly or coma come close. not even in the slightest. if i had never heard the track before and you played it for me, i would have thought breeder produced it.

was just kidding... check out some of my sets and you'll definitely know ;)
and while I respect everyone's right to their own opinion, I personally think the old proggy/trancy sound from 6-10 years ago that everyone her keeps going on about is best left...... well, about 6-10 years in the past :twisted::p

Thing is trance is pretty much dead now. If you want to find GOOD trance listen to Solar Fields, Vibrasphere, j00f, etc.
Stay away from anything by Armin, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, and the like that rule the current 'trance' scene. Bah.:|

I like me some dark psychedelic trance every once in a while...Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection (well, not so dark, a lot more synth),Sphongle, X-Dream...
cringe...run....hide....

I was just going on about it all cause that one guy was defending Trance so I thought this was my time to defend minamal/tech.I will agree though the stuff thats being put out nowadays in trance as compared to 6-10 yrs ago doesnt even compare. It's like cookie cutter trance for that matter.

those were the only two tracks I could think of off the top of my head when I made that reply.Understandable they were bad examples.
Re: Trance Music
Don't listen to Trance anymore since its undergroud glory days, but there sure are a few golden Progressive Trance and Psy Trance choons amiss all the trash though, imho.
Re: Trance Music
Im over trance. Its a thing of the past and I dont bother check anything trance related in the current "era".
I think what we called trance in the late 90's is and sounded different from what we call trance today. The old sounding trance that Oakenfold played was very very good imo.
I've gone through phases of genres in the edm world. Starting from house to techno, acid techno, trance, progressive, elecro/minimal back to house and deep house.
One thing is for sure (imo) and something that has stayed pretty consistent and that's the house sound. I try and listen to some prog and I find it a tad bit boring at times (maybe its the "current" prog sound; I dont know).
I see trance as just plain wack now. But thats the current stuff. My sound files in my head are corrupted and it does not allow me to withstand any of it.
UNLESS they are classics... Bonzai, Lost Language, Green Martian, Xtravaganza, Additive, ATCR, Hook Recordings, Flammable, Manifesto, Perfecto, Barracuda, Liquid Asset, Platipus, Kinetic, shiiiit those were some fucking great trancey labels and the artists that carried them was insane.
I think the same can be said of the early 2000 Progressive sound, the artists and its labels, I mean just check out the "They dont make them like they used to" mixes lol  Yes self advertisement there; sorry...
I will never get tired of Gouryella Gouryella, LSG Shecan, Moogwai Viola or Jon Vesta Gull
Re: Trance Music
Digweed played some trancey/balaeric tracks in the 3rd hour of his set at Pacha last year. To these ears, it was summer, he was enjoying himself in the booth and wanted to capture the moment/vibe by playing something different.
I reported Trance-weed at the time last year !

Sasha always threw in trance tracks when he was at his best - Space Terrace'04 he played Nikola Gala - Swing 2 Harmony .. but being Sasha he played at at completely the right time to make your jaw drop. One of those moments when the whole club stops in its tracks, a chill goes down the back of your neck, and clubbers just look at each other in amazement.

Sasha's taken the breakdowns out of his sets - maybe MAVEN doesn't offer that function, but back in the day ...
Re: Trance Music
I think its obvious that, if Digweed plays trance, its cool. Maybe because he doesn't overdo it. I agree that, at times his sets, and sasha's, to say the least, are quiet "trancey" and less "clicky".
I remember coming across some Sasha/Digweed sets from Costa Rica a while back and they were nothing but trance. As good as they make it sound, it was a bit surprising.
I agree that the binary finary days are over. Tiesto is a duchebag who jockies his success on the forefounders of what we know as good music today. Maybe, in the early days, I would have had respect for him, but, now that fame and success have got to him you can only snigger.

Maybe putting up a video for his Dance 4 Life tour is a bad example of calling him an ass, considering all the proceeds from this track, and these events went to the charity to help raise awareness for HIV and AIDS

Yeah, leave the Tiesto bashing to professionals, Where's Steve at?
