Hey,

anybody know where i can download some good trance music? I've been downloading music from http://www.westoceandjsets.com/ for quiet some time now, but mostly from the "house" section.

I want to listen to some trance but there is not really a good selection of mixes on this site.

thx

Re: Trance Music

You can find trance at bangbus.com

Re: Trance Music

newmixes.com I've found some gems on that site. They're great for carl cox's Global radio show, and they often have live festivals that you won't find on here. Little bit of everything. And you'll definitely find trance on there.

Trance with a BIG T too.

some of it's even tolerable.

Sorry but most of us here don't like trance, so we don't really collect it here. But you may have better luck at www.tranceaddict.com

Re: Trance Music

Thanks for the links you guys.

I always had this problem when i DJ'd in college. Snobbery of people who think that, because they don't think trance is "cool", anybody who listens to it must have something wrong with them. I know you guys are just having a laugh, but consider this:

If you are a true music lover, music is music, no matter what. DJ's of all people should know that. You will never get anywhere by pushing others down for their listening preferences.

Personally I like all ranges of dance music. Mostly Progressive House and Electro, but that is not the point. I have been DJ'ing Electro now for 4 years in a local club and I still like a change now and again. Hence, my original post.

If you were to break the barriers you have built up around the culture of trance music, you may well learn a bit from it... Its called fusion.

Thanks to the guys who posted decent replies, and to the rest i hope i have given some food for thought...

And by the way, tiesto is a bit of a fad. Mainly to do with publicity... but there are some geniuses in the trance world out there and i dont think even Digweed himself will deny that!

Sure ask him, :D

Re: Trance Music

Yeh ... but people will actually argue how brilliant some of the drab clicky uninsprining miminal stuff is or how great electro is

The fact is that Sasha and Digweed played trance tracks over the years ... if it was playable back then then some of it still is now. Personally I like variety and great music regardless of tags or trends.

Re: Trance Music

At best it is hopefully a gateway to listening to other styles of EDM. A lot of so called trance DJ's seem to be gearing toward a more techno like sound, but for a recommendation, check out 4Mal's recent sets, Kintar/Rex, Shiva, and Micheal/Levan, The sound may be a little more progressive, but asking for Carry Foreskin, AVB, PVD and the rest will bring some serious heat on this board, There is an understanding that excessive chedda will not be tolerated in the promos section.

Here Here! I am the same, I could care less what genre a track is from...if it's a good track, who really cares. As long as it can get my ass shaking or my head bobbing, it's good in my books

Well that's why we're all on [ms] and not elsewhere. I like it that I can visit P&R and there is a 'benchmark' of quality to the sets.

I have nothing against trance like For An Angel or Xpander or the Platipus stuff. Armin's not too bad either when I caught him last year.

why? can't tolerate major synth chords? not a big fan of snare rolls?

I recommend dling PVD's Essential hotmix live from cafe mambo. music can be fun, ya know.

ffs dude, digweed use to drop "cafe del mar". sasha dropped nalin & kane. are you suggesting I"ll get heat for posting those sets?

#1066912Post 24 of 68

Re: Trance Music

^^^ It's not 98 anymore, first of all, secondly I have seen some of the chedda heads out in a club, Carry Foreskin for example, play a lot of heavy sounding techno beats, was not typical trance, even though it did have though synths, all it seemed to me was that the bpm's were cranked up, no basslines or variety. If you want to rock Binary Finary, by all means, but don't forget the glowsticks and the gurners smile. ;)

On a seperate note, just had to big up those 4Mal sets in the P&R, very melodic, say even trance like, those sets just get it done, if you get overwhelmed with the current tech house craze. If you want to get trance old school just bust out that Sasha New Years Eve E Mix from Alexandria Palace, now that really gets it going.

I think he's talking about different stuff, trance has come a long way since those days when we were introduced to it. Just like how today's electro house is kinda electro influenced but I refer to it as plain irritating electro though I might not have any issue if I heard some other electro track from a different era.

No doubt back in the day trance rocked. You can never eclipse stuff like Nalin Kane or PVD or Three Drives, but trance today is just irritating and predictable.

Im glad to see a bit of hype was uncovered.

I do agree that some trance is irritating but you cannot deny that some of it is good. Especially the classics. But i think for now i will rest my case.

I can't understand why people slag Ferry Corsten off - he's a really good producer with an ear for a melody. The likes of Sander (in his prog days) have put their names to re-mixing his tracks and Diggers chose to end CD1 of GU Sydney with one of his productions.

Gabriel & Dresden are respected producers and Sasha has often used their stuff.

#1066980Post 35 of 68

Re: Trance Music

Ferry Corsten is ok...I find he is hit or miss...he is either really good or really bad.

I do like how he is always in there trying out new things though....he was one of the first if I recall to mix the trance and electro-y sound in his productions.

Love it..!

I bet that the average age of a trance raver is much less than a prog/minimal one. What does that suggest? (that we are all old farts, correct but you know what im saying)

it suggests that all those years of clubbin' and ravin' has made us geezers lose our hearing to the point we think click-house is good shit.

Re: Trance Music

It's very interesting to notice the rigidity of styles applied to describe what, in and of its own sake, is a wide open field. We start with music, then set up boundaries based on production, and arrive at our favorite topic: electronic dance music, or whatever moniker is to your liking. This again is divied up a la Ishkur's guide to electronic music, and then here is where the fun begins.

Within a certain genre we have rules: What is trance? As was mentioned, the snare rolls, big synth chords, huge buildups, long breakdowns are stylistic elements. From here though, what is left to describe the genre? How do we communicate its boundaries without playing it?

The tricky part is, how do you get the point across that 'the type of xxxxxx i'm talking about isn't cheesy, its the type thats xxxxx, and doesn't have a lot of xxxxxxx going on, you know?'

I love hearing the words people use to describe music- chunky, funky, deep, trippy etc

I'm a firm believer that there are only two types of music: good and bad. I bet there's even a country song out there that I would like... I've yet to find it but am nevertheless a firm believer that it's out there.

I lol'd at reading the name Binary Finery... wow it's been a minute since I've heard that tune.
