I am trying to find a way to record my gigs on a device. I purchased a laptop but I find it too bulky to carry it with me (+ cd case, it's too much).

I looked around and found those small mp4 players with line in, but they record on mp3 64kbps basis, and they are made in china etc etc...

I am looking for something small that records wav directly from the mixer using RCAs. Any hint? :what

Tnx

Tnx
I saw Pole Folder recording here at 161 and it says, on Frisky I think, this is what he uses, Really cute little thing just plugged straight into the mixer. http://www.edirol.net/products/en/R-09/

If you must have wav I think you will be going up quite a bit, both in size and price.

i have the edirol r-09 and it is awesome. you can record wav's with it. you record to a sd card ... and i think sd cards go up to 8gb these days? maybe even 16gb. anyways, it is awesome. you can chose the bit rate you record at, has a line in and the sound off it is awesome...gonna record a set w/ it tonight.

also if you are into production at all the mic on the end can give you some quality found sound stuff... is dope 8)

so you think you're better than me

i bought mine for the mic, so if it were for only recording sets ... the r-09 may not be the best choice.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^ Indeed, size does matter (in this case)... 8) I need a small recorder; the laptop is too bulky and to set it up it takes time etc...

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Was gonna jump in and recommend iRiver as well. They have line-in and have good sound quality from what I've read.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^^ I looked at iRivers as well .[ I was getting pissed off that really good Melbourne sets weren't being recorded and I was thinking of volunteering.] But I don't think you could get much better recommendation than that Pole Folder uses that tiny thing for his radio show and it really is tiny.

Size and Weight Width 63 mm 2-1/2 inches Depth 102 mm 4-1/16 inches Height 29 mm 1-3/16 inches Weight 0.1 kg 0 lbs. 6 oz. *0 dBu = 0.775 Vrms

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

i have the Marantz CDR310 and love it. you can record 5 hours of at CD quality or wav files, and 300 hours of MP3's on the internal hard drive then hit a button and hit will create a CD there is even a feature that lets you record directly to a CD all of it right out of the mixer.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I have no personal experience with the MT2 but it comes highly recommended from a friend. Make sure to share your review. I am also shopping for a field recorder and would appreciate your thoughts. :)

what does diggers use??
Well. If Dig72 and I were right about him recording his set at Q bar,[and I believe we were :)] it's a little handheld of some description:D It looked a little bigger than the one Pole Folder was using. That little MT2 looks like pretty good value as well. I love gadgets. !!:D

if you want a mic why not just use the edirol r-09

#1051347Post 26 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

i've got a really tiny Iriver recording device. It records at 192k and sounds pretty good. It takes an 1/8" plug but that's OK with me. It will record a little over three hours at that bitrate, but you can bring it down to 128 and it'll go for around 4 hours. Pretty darn nice. BTW it's a 512 Meg recorder. My friend bought the 1 gig and it will do twice as much as mine will.

model # 130MX 512Meg.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Im curious about the r-09. You say you can record directly into the sd card or internal hd right? Now this might sound noObish, but what does the mic do in terms of recording?

I mean does it make the recording sound more "live"? Is there anything out there that recrods like the Essential Live mixes? You know, crisp and clean and then it fades out into the crowd noise for a bit, then back to the studio sound.... That would be bad ass.

Im assuming its either or right?

i think what your asking is what can i sneak into space n record sasha and not get lifted by the security staff!!!

Advice dont get anything that looks like a camera!!! Disguise it as a mobile!!! Vola!

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

For recording vinyl, I use an original UREI 1620 and a MBOX 2 Pro (With Pro Tools LE).

It really does sound great and you can use the Normalization tools in Pro Tools to beef up the sound.

There's no chance at Space .... although Pacha wouldn't have been a problem last year for Diggers, Hernan and Van M.

I go to a lot of jazz gigs too and got hacked off using my mini-disc recorder.

yo shawn dee six foe!, can you share that mix, I want to listen to the quality of this edirol r-09.

the mix in the promos section was recorded with my r-09 (i am scd, from b-sides)

i ran a line from the rec out of my mixer to the 1/4in mic jack on the unit.

i use the mic for recording sounds for production ... we had an awesome thunderstorm last night... i was recording that....

on the r-09... there is no internal HD... only sd cards. but the good thing is it runs on sd cards and normal batteries, so no matter what happens you can buy batteries and a sd card anywhere... bought both in prague, when all i had on me was my backpack.

yes its either mic or line in.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?
