Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?
the mix in the promos section was recorded with my r-09 (i am scd, from b-sides)

i ran a line from the rec out of my mixer to the 1/4in mic jack on the unit.

i use the mic for recording sounds for production ... we had an awesome thunderstorm last night... i was recording that....

ex: http://www.yousendit.com/download/Q01GeVdwbWdiV3hFQlE9PQ

on the r-09... there is no internal HD... only sd cards. but the good thing is it runs on sd cards and normal batteries, so no matter what happens you can buy batteries and a sd card anywhere... bought both in prague, when all i had on me was my backpack.

yes its either mic or line in.
thanks man, will be checking it out!
I think she was gonna buy that M-Audio one.
I called the local dealer to check it out:

They have the Micro Tech I (silver) that comes with a 128mb built-in memory...upgreadable with memory chipset of course..... But the price tag is not a piece of cake: 700 USD excluding additional memory :what

So I am gona look for other similar devices from other brands and see what do to....

#1052472Post 47 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^ yike 700 seems a bit step, theres loads of other devices that work just aswell for a lot less cash!

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I am gona investigate the Edirol R-09 and some other brands as well... But they way it looks, I know I will have to spend some kind of buget for this gadget.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I found this everywhere a lot cheaper than that. !! R-09 was dearer

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Just got back from virgin Megastore, same model M-Audio MT1 @ 550 USD... (such a difference of prices between a shop and the other !)

I have to keep on searching, haven't found any other brand of digital recording yet...

#1052527Post 51 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

the m audio microtrack II is awesome. records directly to compact flash, no moving parts, 2496. it's wicked for field recordings if you're into that as well.

#1052531Post 52 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

That's the one I have put up the ebay links for.

#1052533Post 53 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^yeah, i've used it. wicked lil machine, especially considering how cheap compact flash is these days.

#1052535Post 54 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^^ that seems to me to be more practical than memory on board. Keep it small as well !!

#1052538Post 55 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I have called many tech equipment stores: radio shack, virgin, etc etc...the only professional digital recording device i found till now is the M-Audio 1 @ 550 $..best deal around yet.. :what

#1052539Post 56 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

radio shack? virgin? lol. you need to be looking at pro audio stores.

did you read the replies above about the microtrack II ? there are links posted above where to purchase, or are you set on paying $500 for the Maudio1?

#1052540Post 57 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

i take you arent wanting to get one shipped?

#1052546Post 58 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Yes, I read the comments above, thank you ALL.

I am not set for anything yet; I called many "pro" audio shops here, but none of them has it... so I will keep on searching for now. I like the M-Audio II, it looks very performant and cool to use. At the end of all this, if I dont find it in the local market I will have it shipped or ask someone who travels to get it for me... :what

How about those sony or panasonic "journalist" digital recorders? I saw few that could record wave and with good memory...but the thing is that it has jacks and no RCA,,,,donno, doesnt sound like pro-music device ....:what

#1053347Post 68 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I really think you are just going to have to get something shipped.. ARCHOS

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?
it has jacks and no RCA
There is an adapter for everything....

#1053530Post 70 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^ Yes, but what about the sound quality...direct rca is better than passing through a converter, no?

#1053548Post 71 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Its not a "converter" but a simple adapter that turns your RCA into a 1/4".

You can also purchase a cable with 1/4" on one end and RCA's on the other

The sound quality would not be compromised.

1/4" cables are actually superior to RCA's. They are a balanced cable which cancels out unwanted interference.

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^ I have something similar in my set up because of my A&H mixer to my Sony amp.

#1053558Post 73 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

I use a RCA to 1/4" cable to go from the Rec out on my mixer to my M-Box for recording demos at home.

#1054083Post 74 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

^ changing tha RCA to 1/4 jack doesn't change the quality?? If not, then why spend so much money on the MT2 when u can simply get one of those "sony" or "panasonic" jounalist digital recorder..it much cheaper and same memory...

#1054235Post 75 of 90

Re: What is the best device to use for live recordings?

Coz that m-audio device is far cooler and you can never have enough electric gadgets !

Additional features... which you may or may not deisre.

"Capture high-SPL sources without clipping thanks to an extended input gain range and built-in analog input limiter."

"Drop in markers while recording BWF files and easily find your place when editing your content. Easily organize and locate your files in the field with a user-created folder structure."

"Pro-quality preamps complete with full 48V phantom power will work with your favorite condenser microphones virtually anywhere you need to capture audio—all the way up to 24-bit/96kHz. "

"Balanced ¼” TRS line inputs also make it easy to take a feed directly from a studio or club mixer. S/PDIF input means that you can even record the output of digital mixers and do transfers "

MP3 alternative to laptop

I was thinking about buying something like this http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/ED-R-09HR to record my live sets. It would be nice to carry this small device around instead of my laptop ! Does anyone use anything similar to this ? Any recomendations ?

Thanks
Andy recomendations ?
Sure, I like Andy Garcia in the Ocean's 11 Movies. And I'd avoid Andy Dick in just about everything. Hope that's helpful!!!
