So I guess the current GU process to to pick whoever they can and send them off a location they haven't done a GU before, for a short low key gig noone knows about, so that they can then lie and say the music is inspired by there !
That's a million miles away from GU ibiza when Sasha had a Space residency or GU Sydney when JD was touring Aus.
Here's and idea, if you want a South American inspired comp then pick a South American DJ !

The daft thing is that Sasha & Digweed could have done an American GU putting it together on the road in the US last Spring, and genuinely say it was an American inspired release !

I love GU compilations, better than Ministry of sound and renaissance compilations. I listen to them since I was 16 years old. Even if they sometimes fuck up, I still love them. Sometimes one release will let you down but the next one will bring all the love back in awe and surprise.

The Bogota gig was fairly well exposed along with the Prydz gig in Stockholm. I don't know how Nicomax didnt know about it, but I did and I didn't know where Bogota was. If you look at the roster of the DJ's that play at [URL]http://www.clubgotica.com/[/URL] you don't get it that good in Liverpool any more.

You can keep Emerson, has gone off the radar when he jumped on the minimal wagon years back, add to that bailing on Underworld, why not just give James Lavelle another GU and fire bomb the whole thing, Renasannce and Balance series make GU look like retro honks stuck in 99.

Who says thats the first time hes played there? Crossed wires somewhere along the lines.
For the record, there have been many other GUs whereby the tracks have been presourced and compiled to a certain extent before the "official parties", including those done by some of this board's "heroes".

I was there. Emerson did play most of these tracks, he also play at 8:00 AM Around the world, by Daft Punk. The people where absolutley blown away by his track selection and good vibe. I saw him play on ¿June? , well ,the last time he was here before the Global Album gig, and let my tell you Bogotá surely inspires him. Let's see how it turns out.

Its a nightmare licencing them either anyway. I remember on one of the documentaries featuring the BOXED boys someone wanted stupid money just to licence a track for GU13 in the UK. They told them to fuck off. Getting permission to licence a track is one thing. Completing the CD before the event is something else. The only time I can remember licencing all the tracks before the gig was for that Instant Live CD Sasha did.

Im not a huge fan of Emerson's other GUs, although GU 15 is pretty good and is a favorite of some fellow dj/friends of mine.
That being said, after seeing the tracklisting, i think this looks pretty damn good. Will be picking this up for sure.

Yeah the whole licensing issue can put a dent in the overall spontaneity of a set, after hearing Warren's latest effort which was fantastic but quite what the few live sets floating around this summer contained, as for Emerson, hey some great tracks, at least GU has come around a bit musically with Warren, but compared the latest Howells and Tomiie effort on Renaisannce, GU has some catching up to do.

It seems in this digital age, a packaged cd mix is sometimes an afterthought, though just recently getting the Warren mix, kind of got nostalgic mulling over the photos and liner notes, but give me a four hour live mix or weekly show over the packaged cd anyway.

i miss cds!
there was a quality and a longevity to a cd that weekely mixes miss!
yes its great having new music every week, but it becomes very difficult to identify and fall in love with a mix.
GU9 or the northern exposure cds are epic and well loved by most. u can hardly say that the diggers kiss mix from 22-03-08 manages the same thing.
yes there are good mixes that come out, but due to the sheer volume of mixes, its not very often that u go back to them.
its no longer about appreciating the mix, but filtering through the sheer quantity!
