I enjoyed Zabiela's sets when he first came out (like back when he did that Essential mix and was compared to as the next Sasha).. but lately he's been getting a little too acid / electro for me.. but I can't judge him just from sets on the net.. I still haven't seen him live.

As for Jon Lisle, his Kiss 100 mix from what was it? 2001? 02? Not the latest one but the one from a few years ago.. Now that mix was the SHIT! He was a much anticipated DJ for me to hear over the years. His new Kiss 100 mix was okay but it wasn't as innovative as his first one IMO.. and I haven't seen him live as well..

I guess currently I'd rather hear a JL set than JZ's.. just my opinion. I think they're both great DJ's.

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

The first time I saw James Zabiela, WMC 2002, he attracted a visibly awed viewing crowd (present company included!) The set sounded incredible too, but ever since, each time I have heard him, he's going some slightly new direction. I'm not really diggin' the electro/acid stuff, but he is the most talented DJ I've ever seen... Unfortuantely, the sense that music is supposed to stimulate is what we hear, not what we see. I'd go with Johathan Lisle right now.

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

Zabiela is great, but Lisle is top notch

Jonathan Lisle, bc Jz's sound is a little bit too uniform like yes, robot music, we're not machines man we dont like loud piercing sirens in our ear drums...

I like James Zabiela for that reason, tien.

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

no question about this one, Lisle should pull this one out easily... Love the dark beats he spins. Anyone know if he'll ever come to NYC???

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

JZ is the Don. End of.

At this point in time I've got to go with JZ. His essential mix, assorted live mixes, recent proton/.audio mix, Alive and SA90 promo all sound top notch to my ears. I haven't seen either of them live, which would probably be a better way of judging them. But for the moment JZ > JL

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

i cast my vote with Johnathan lisle at this point since i have already seen james zabiela live. I can compare cds later

#273058Post 56 of 61

^^^ so wait, you are voting that you like JL better, because you have NOT seen him live?

#273059Post 57 of 61

jZ is better for me :)

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

whoops..... good point. What I mean is that if both dj's were playing on opposite ends of town on the same night i would go see jonathan first because i haven't seen him before. even though I have not heard too many sets from jonathan, i feel that the good praise he has recieved from several message boards that I view and mr. digweed puts him on the bedrock roster too. not to put JZ down at all, i have all of his groovetech sets and have enjoyed all of his cds. And the one time that i have had a chance to see him JZ rocked 1150.

I understand what you mean. Given the choice now, I would go see JL, because I have yet to see him live. JZ was amazing live, his passion is contagious. But I am always up for seeing someone I've not seen yet.

Re: James Zabiela or Jonathan Lisle?

For me, it's Lisle. I like James, but he loses me on the dancefloor at times.
