i tried magic hats belgium style dubbel tonight and it was pretty good. are there any american style equivalents to these beers? alagash white is a really good white ale based in maine... but i wish there was a solid belgium brown made in america... purely for cost reasons... i have access to all these above beers at a store down the road, it just gets pricey!

Re: favorite beers

It's my 21st birthday today but don't let that fool you; I've been drinking hard for years. As a broke ass college student I go for the cheapest stuff, there's no money to be a beer connoisseur.

Re: favorite beers

lately i have also been really loving the belgium beers, anything that tastes as good as or better than stella and Im happy. I had one recently I picked out at the local Whole Foods which has a great selection of imports but I can't remember the name of it. It was belgium though, I think it was a "whitbier."

Re: favorite beers

People, don't get ripped off by brewers selling "Belgium style beer". That is such a load of crap. Belgian beers come from Belgium, basta. There are even a few beers (Geuze, Hoegaarden, ...) that need to be brewed in a specific location here or the quality goes to shit.

i love duvel as well, made for a sloppy night for me in lueven this past summer :what

i love the belgiums, its just a pain that a single bottle of westmalle is $4.70 here, so i was hoping for a "decent" knock off. usually once a week i will treat myself to a large bottle of something different...

There's even a yearly contest overhere where the point is to drink 10 Duvels in an hour time (without pissing or puking). It's quite rare that someone hits the gong and takes the prize

4.70 for Westmalle... God, it's good to be a Belgian

Re: favorite beers

i'm seasonal. in the winter, i'm all about the esb and ipa. i love right around christmas time when the scotch and whisky ales come out from select breweries too.

favorite brewery is Bell's. all their beers are fantastically crafted and highly rated. two hearted ale ftw.

btw, beeradvocate.com ...join, chat up beers.

Re: favorite beers

I like Becks Gold most at the moment. My mates keep on telling me it is a women's beer because it does not taste as sour as normal brewed beer but they drink it nevertheless.

any discussion of beer should begin and end with Guinness. Lots of other good ones out there, but it's the cream of the crop...

Re: favorite beers

I'm with kinkyj on the whole "belgian style" thing. When i want a "belgian style" beer, i'll go straight to the source, and drink a belgian beer. I'm not drinking a knock off replica from some American brewery like New Belgium (fine brewery tho.) When i want a cheap ass american beer, i don't go to belgicum for a replica, I open a hometown budweiser- and laugh if you wish, but it has it's place: Summer, July, Saturday, Noon, sun beating down, field level seats, first pitch @ Busch Stadium...and a $8.75 plastic cup of Budwesier...mmmmm, heaven.

i tell everyone who says that guiness is their favourite beer to try this one instead. tons better than guiness, much more flavour and taste. look for the draught cans with the widget like the guiness cans, not the bottles. you wont be disappointed.

B L A S P H E M Y !!!!!!!!!! :Die:

I do dig me some youngs double choc stout tho, it just isn't Guiness, and it's kinda an odd comparison tbh. It's like someone asking for a BMW and the salesman goes and gets a Mercedes. Both nice, not the same car at all tho.
