What do you guys think was the best Start/Intro of a set or cd. I have to say for an older set:
Sasha and Digweed - Northern Exposure - Expeditions Breeder - Tyrantanic (Breeders Underexposed Mix) with Space Manoeuvres -Stage One

For a more recent set: Sashas start of various mixes with Invisible Inc. - Stars (Ambient Mix)

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

Though not of the electronic genre, Genius Gza's Liquid Swords Album had a killer start.

#267106Post 4 of 217

that 'stars' track is great. but every dj on planet earth has been using it. i like some jeff bennett. :)

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

The start to Adam Freeland's EM last year was brilliant 2.

maybe because nobody has made a great ambient track in quite some bit.

my favorite though is "doesnt matter what i believe" by lee neilson. class!

Wow...that just brought back some great memories. Thats when hip-hop was good. One set that I have to say has a good start is Roland-Global Dj Broadcast.

seems like ambient openings have become the trend. i expected to see porter do this a couple years ago when he opened for sasha, but he banged it out instead.

i understand that. just saying, a lot of the younger generation dj's are all playing the same records. starting with the same tracks, etc... time to pop in North (northern exposure that is. not peter north. :Naughty: :LoveYou:

#267139Post 14 of 217

for me it is an old school one ...

the artist Paul Oakenfold. the year 99. the place Homelands.

i have never been able to track down that intro tune, but fucking an a. what a way to start homelands off.

#267145Post 15 of 217

Well for me its gotta be Sasha - @ One World, Glastonbury 27/06/03. Im not one for hearing the crowd on a set but coupled with the first track it really makes my hair stand on end. Im not a train spotter but im sure one of you guys knows what its called.

I hear ya Jibjolly.

#267197Post 23 of 217

well, it's a live set for me, and wow, it's from digweed.

the year he won #1 dj from dj mag, and broadcast his ceremony or whatever from bedrock on his kiss show, like nov 5th or something 2001 i'm thinking. anyway, some girl introduces him as #1 , the crowd screams like mad, he drops that Peace Division cut. I wet my pants.

Also Dave Seaman's last 2 GU's had some great openers as well. However, Sasha is the master of this live, while almost routinely opening his sets with 3-4 minute intros. I love 'em all!! :Bingo:

#267345Post 25 of 217

Sander Kleinenberg's intro on his Renaissance cd-1

#267420Post 26 of 217

Agreed with most of above...

Thought I'd add Driving to Heaven on GU 21. Tis dreamy...

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

Digweed opened a live set (think it was in Winchester 2001) with New Order - "Crystals [Bedrock remix]"...I get goosebumps every time I hear the start of the mix....slow...slow....spheric and THEN booom boom badda da bang uz uz uz uz uz... awesome  :RightOn:

#267438Post 28 of 217

#267522Post 31 of 217

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

pollon - lonely planet followed by dust was a great into, as was apollo vibes by the track i liked most be creamer & k - love in traffic.

loving the ambient mix of stars too, i liked the way nick warren opened with it on his set live@ the tlv tel aviv.

#267596Post 32 of 217

Re: Best Intro/Start to a set or cd.

So far I didn't hear better opener than the one in Parks and Wilson's emix from 2000 - they started with a some traditional japanese tune and then went straight to Tilt "The dragon" , it's massive for me

I also liked digweed's opening from 2004 New Year's party :Bingo:

Coco Da Silva "The Shiva Chant"

He started his set at Fabric with it the month before as well, awesome tunage :Bingo:

However my favorite intro must be when Sasha used Jody Watley "I'm The One" (Dead Zone Mix) really fucking incredible and set the tone for a simply classic set.

#267623Post 35 of 217

one of my faves is the intro to NE1.. with the David Attenborough sample

^^^good call :Bingo:

#267673Post 37 of 217

It was a really short set, but the intro to Digweed's pre-Miami Hotmix on Radio1, complete with Petey Tong on the voiceover is so monsterously epic, it makes my head spin.

Hmm, I think this is the one record that I saw go for like $85 bucks on Ebay. I think it's called Orkidea - Unity or something like that (Orkidea I know for sure). It samples some songs vocals.... If I'm thinking of the right set of course.

For me:

Sasha E-Mix of 2000 (John Johnson - Impact [Van Bellen mix] )

Deep Dish - Kiss set Live @ Bedrock (Weekend World - The word) I thinks N Warren also used it on one of his GU cd's

...and cant forget good old Oakey's opening tune from his '99 tour in Sydney... Narcotik - Blue (Platipus) <-- Lovely indeed!!
