Definitely trailer trash.

#928282Post 5 of 55

Re: would you girls do this ?

what makes her trailer trash? they use technology to their advantage. whether or not the husband conceded the after-death use of his sperm, he had to have had a fairly decent understanding that that's what was going to happen if he did die overseas. imo, i would want my blood to be carried on if i died in a senseless war.

i say hooray for her!

obviusly its something they planned ... but i still find it creepy

could have impregnated her himself before leaving no ?

"Brian and I never discussed whether I would have a child if he died," she added.

it's fucking weird, how is she gonna explain it to the kid? mommy, where to babies come from? well, your dad jizzed in a cup, then went and got blown up in iraq....

Re: would you girls do this ?

I'm totally with jib on this, just cant figure out some of the responses going trailer trash.... and how ?

If she and her husband loved each other so much that even after he died, she chose to have a part of him recreated with the help of technology, how the heck is that demeaning or in poor judgment ?

I say more power to her if she had the amount of love she has for her late husband to do what she has done and the courage to actually pull it off.

Re: would you girls do this ?

^agreed 100%. It's a little weird to think about, but I don't think there's anything remotely trashy about it. Moreover, from what I gather, very few trailer dwellers could afford artificial insemination. Pretty expensive, isn't it?

No shit, Sherlockina.

Was she expecting something else? A thalidomide baby, perhaps?

white trash replies are just jokes ...

#928340Post 13 of 55

Re: would you girls do this ?

I would never do something like that. It would make it next to impossible to move on from the lost love, and the child would be a constant reminder of him. Also, I'd never want to have a kid without someone that could help me raise it.

this is the kind of input i was looking since the desicion of using the frozen sperm was all her idea , it wasnt planned by the 2 before he died

It's really not your place, or mine, or anyone else's on here to judge that woman so harshly for choices she made that are so deeply personal to her and are intertwined with her relationship she had with her late husband.

Re: would you girls do this ?

Overly sentimental bullshit.

What is it with people who are so desperately attached to someone they have to cling on to an extention of themselves or a loved one to the lengths of freezing their sperm. I could understand it more if it were about having kick-ass genes or something but this is just about emotional dependency on another person.

Are these people really this emotionally crippled?

I totally agree! But I cannot say what I would do because untill you find yourself in a situation like this you CANNOT know what you'd do imo!
^^^ blahblahblahblah

No. I'm neither arrogant, narcistic or bored enough to want to conceive a child for any reason, let alone for reasons of preserving the memory of someone I was/am close to.

Hell, get a tattoo if you feel that strongly.

Obviously you haven't been in love to the extent these women are. There's probably a darn good reason only 2 women (if I read that article right) have done it. Of course the others probably weren't as crazy about their better halves.

There's nothing wrong with being desperately attached to someone, thats why you have intesne emotions for one person and not the entire world.

Some people control it and dont let those emotional chemicals flow as freely through themselves, others do. I completely fail to see how they are "emotionally dependent" on their dead husbands

Re: would you girls do this ?
Obviously you haven't been in love to the extent these women are
obviously?

I guess you "obviously" have me all sewn up then, let's not even entertain the idea that there might be perspectives here that you might not have thought about, because it's simply about the limits of my love experience.

ok.
There's nothing wrong with being desperately attached to someone
Well, I wouldn't use the word "wrong" here either. Wrong implies some sort of moral standpoint on the matter, which I don't have. However I would describe being "desperately" attached as limited, and being pretty dependant on someone else to satisfy your needs, as opposed to being self-aware and being capable of satisfying your own needs through your own understanding of yourself.

I know I prefer to be with someone because I want to be with them and because I desire to be with them rather than because I "need" to be with them. A fully developed, emotionally intelligent person doesn't "need" to be with someone, simply because their emotional needs are already managed by themselves.
Some people control it and dont let those emotional chemicals flow as freely through themselves, others do
Or, alternatively perhaps some people may just have spent lots of time analysing their emotions and behaviour to the point where they are now able to rationalise and understand themselves and are less emotionally needy. So when they let their emotions flow free they don't appear as unstable [or passionate] or erratic [or intense] as someone who doesn't understand themselves to the same level?

I can't view being In Love as being "desperately attached", because if I was with someone because I was desperately in need of them, I'd obviously be expecting them to pacify those needs for me. That's not only selfish, but also often unfair on the other person. I don't wish to inflict my failings onto a person I really adore, because .. well, I like 'em, and they deserve better

I certainly don't equate "desperately attached" with a healthy relationship.

Whereas totally adoring someone, that's something else. And that's pretty awesome, so I'll stick with that.

But that's obviously because I'm like 16 or something and nothing to do with years of experience and contemplation.

well sure, you can always think and say whatever the bleep you want.....

......and certain things you say may inspire others to think and say whatever the bleep they want back to you :p

That said, if I were a woman and somehow still otherwise possessed my same sense of self as I do now as a man (which I certainly doubt could be possible), then no I don't think I would do it.

Re: would you girls do this ?

So, the woman says she has fertilization issue, so invetro is probably her only choice of getting pregnant, especially at age 42. Why not use her husbands sperm? A man she knows the history of, tempermant, looks, medical history of...rather than a stranger from the sperm bank on who she will only know a partial history of?

There may be psychological issues of her "filling the void" in her life by having this child, but there are far worse excuses for getting pregnant that happen way to frequently in this world.
There may be psychological issues of her "filling the void" in her life by having this child, but there are far worse excuses for getting pregnant that happen way to frequently in this world.
exactly. I dont see anything wrong with her decision. I find it understandable.

The article doesn't say how long they were married. But losing your "soul mate", the person your suppose to spend the rest of your life with until old age must be a very difficult thing.

#928580Post 39 of 55

Re: would you girls do this ?

i think her decision is justified. she wanted to have a child and she did it. i can totally understand loving someone so much that you want to have a child with this individual, if this individual is deceased it obviously creates quite the dilemma. it was planned and executed nicely. i personally don't believe that there is anything wrong with telling the kid that the father died in a war to protect his freedom and he was born to carry on his bloodline. i would be honored. (if i were the kid)

i can think of a lot stranger circumstances for a child to be born under. hats off to the mom, she now has the child she wanted with the person that she loved and technology has given her the ability to do so.

Re: would you girls do this ?

I bet if this was about a misguided 17 year old girl whose boyfriend left her to drop out of school and fend for herself after she got knocked up, no one would comment about anything sick/creepy/wrong with that whole situation.

But a grown 42 year old woman whose husband just died...whoa, this has gone too far!
