Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Couple more days before the offical release. Can't wait.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Yeah, I'm definately into this. It's trying to top volume 1 in my mind for best installment in the series and in few more listens I think it will. A must purchase for sure.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
This mix is FANTASTIC!!! I loved Vol. 2 and this one is even better...... One of Diggers better mix cds....
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
It's on iTunes now. :)
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Holy shit.
This has nothing to do with what it was supposed to be, a true John Digweed 3 AM live in a club experience but it's sure a hell of a 70-minute vortex. The way he layers those tracks and the flow is just unbelievable.
The tempo is a bit low and the mix would need to be more evil to transfer the Digweed-live experience to home but after one listen it feels like my favorite of the series. Probably too early to say.
Still I'm sad this has nothing as cool as the bang and layering of the last 15 minutes of Vol 2. I was hoping for a full mix of that. But as a whole this is the best in the series.
4,5 / 5
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
i agree it is the best of the series... and at the time, Vol 2 was his best since MMII. Diggers just keeps getting better...
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

MMII is just something special and I dont think can really be compared to anything else tbh. Vol 3 is the best of the three imo but I dont rate 1 and 2 that much.. Personally I actually prefer quite a few of the kiss sets from this year..
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
yes MMII is in a class all by itself.... as is the Bedrock mix
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
i will order his cd tonights. :)
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Has anyone heard this 25 min track yet?
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
This mix is absolutely stellar. I'd highly recommend listening to the tracks off this comp that have been released individually...it really gives you a good idea of the layering he did to create this masterpiece...
Several comments: track selection is the best i've heard from a mix cd in probably the last 3-4 years...seriously phenomenal stuff. mixing is incredible, and far more tracks than he normally puts into a 75 min mix. there are pretty much NO vocals on this cd at all...love that.
he needs to come back up to western Canada...NOW.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
^^^^couldnt agree more, about the tracks released invidivually.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Just ordered my copy this morning!!! cant wait to see what all the fuss is about!
Whats the video like? Havent heard anything on that.
Has anyone heard this 25 min track yet?
i'll listen to it in couple of hours, when I'll get home ..
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Still waiting for mine to come in the mail. Hopefully by wednesday I will get it. On the Bedrock board, there is mixed opinion about the 25 min track. Some say it is good and otheres don't like it at all. So I guess you will just have to listen to it for yourself and decide.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
laudable effort to create a track of such a lenght, but seems to ... rigid to me... and the sounds used .. are somehow ... too basic .. too elektro style mor my taste ...
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
too electro style...damn dude go listen to some minor chords. Too basic, my ass. That track has many many layers, you just weren't listening intently enough...go listen to it again, and again.
The Gridlock track is a 25 minute piece of electronic brilliantness. The beginning has many layered elements that I really dug, very abstract but listenable too. As the track moves on, you get to hear some of these elements being brought back and forth through the layering of sounds. I really think James Zabiela has been learning from Nick Muir, as his tracks too have become much more layered.
I can't wait to get the 10 minute version of the track and hear how they condensed it down into a more listenable time frame, as with 25 minutes, the mind does tend to drift.

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
great review off amazon.com
Entering with the audibly dark and spookish wavelength's of Sasha's "Coma," the third installment of John Digweed's Transitions series immediately displays the type of savagery that previous minimal-tech albums have all seemed to lack - that is, when the listener is looking for the dark side. When I listen to music of this caliber, I often think what the general progression might be analogous to; in this case, the best description I find myself with is that of a dimly lit room with a sharp and meticulously designed machine clicking, spinning and drilling away towards some undetermined end. And in this spirit, I liken Transitions 3 to Transitions 1; the direction that the mix will ultimately lead you does not appear predetermined, almost as if the album were being mixed live simply for you. I dig that.
After a stiflingly robotic series of introductory tracks, the mix gains its much needed heated flow with Lawrence's "Along The Wire." And so begins the madness.
Fans of minimal-tech house will know what I mean by the statement that much of the album has an undercurrent which "bobs" up and down, taking the listener up and down in a constant sea of audible motion. Electronically, Digweed's programming techniques are so finely tuned that it is easy to see his personal Transition from merely dipping his feet into the waters of minimalism to literally redefining the genre in three short years. Not only that, but he is able to program extremely re-worked and exclusive Transitions-Edit versions of the newest songs to hit the minimal scene on a grand scale - in this case, amounting to a twenty-track progression including lots of great artists. Sasha, obviously, who begins the mix, but alongside him are many fairly unknowns. Einzelkind, Joel Mull, Chaim, Ink & Needle, Solead and Guy J all make great representations here - but we all knew John has the technique for picking out obscurity and molding it into something cohesive.
It would be unfair to claim that this album is purely electronically programmed, for that simply isnt the case. Digweed's lavish mixing is evidenced by beautifully landscaped tracks like Daniela Stickroth's "Chest In The Attic" and Joel Mull's "Begun The End Has." What's obscure in a name comes across as beauty in a melody. And I think that the tracks which Digweed lets run the show solo for quite some time make this album even more of a buoyant release relative to the other bogged-down-by-monotony minimal mixes being released right now - case in point, Booka Shade's DJ Kicks... but that's another issue. Digweed's demeanor slides to and fro from a mish-mash of minimalism I liken to Tiefschwarz, M.A.N.D.Y. and James Holden (the latter two's "At The Controls" releases). That is to say, within this dimly painted mosaic emerge some quirky, fun and ultimately positive attributes that only someone with the mixing skills John possesses could contrive in album form. Paul Ritch's "Messene," or perhaps "Hedonism" by Reshufle, are tracks that can confirm this idea. Hedonism may in fact be my favorite track on the disc.
Expanding further on track selection, this album is something of a gem worthy of a particular kind of distinction. Aside from the fact that several virtual unknowns are made known by means of this mix, tracks that have been around long enough to be remixed and re-tooled are perfectly selected. Adam Freeland's "Silverlake Pills" would not have worked as well as it did had it not been for the wise selection of its Gui Boratto Remix. The Superpitcher Mix of "Along The Wire" is superb, and Chaim does an excellent re-working of "Come Into My World." Wink's Profound Sound Interpretation of "Lowdown Brittle" is a jewel in and of itself. Most of the aforementioned remixes are what I consider the better of the two possible choices at hand, and it appears that Digweed knows when, and when not to, insert a re-tooled version of a track. At long last, the album closes out with one of the most fantastic minimal pair-ups I've ever heard - Umek's "Ricochet Effect" and Guy J's incredible "Save Me." These tracks in sequence produce a heavily bassy, regally symphonic sound; crisp, resonant cymbals and occasionally frenetic synthesizer's simply heighten the brilliant and climactic atmosphere.
Programming. Mixing. Tracks. Yes, indeed, it would seem that John Digweed has yet again produced a 5-star release. I did not find Transitions 2 to be as innovative as 1, but 3 brings back that level of experimentation - and that is truly what this album represents. This music is absolutely nothing like what John is currently playing live; his album release party at Pacha NYC was a heavy club banger which left the dancefloor in shambles after six + hours. Instead, Transitions 3 is John in the laboratory, producing another tasty concoction for those raving for more.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Excellent mix again by Mr. Digweed. Many more tracks than usual, but mixed and programmed really well as we'd expect. Everyone that reads this board should pick up a copy.
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Got my signed copy through on the day of release :) Ordered off Digweed's website. Love it, including the mix and video on Disc 2. :Bingo:
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Anyone know if this mix is untouched or if it has been tailored with?
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Anyone know if this mix is untouched or if it has been tailored with?
you mean was it mixed manually, or with protools?
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
Just wondering, if Digweed released a 25 minute trcak of him breathing, would you call it a masterpiece?
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
it was done on ableton and protools, but he does his cds in ableton.... he did use ableton and protools to reedit and as i call it "produce" a mix.
I got my copy yesterday afternoon from UPS. I had a promo copy of the cd, but the real deal is much better sounding......
Disc 2, the track 'gridlock' is awesome, had to remind myself it is ONE track.... it could easily be two or three tracks..... haven't watched the video yet, but look forward to it...
This is easily one of my favorite Diggers mix cds, the best of the series and his best in years..... keep it up Diggers.....

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
the last half hour :shock::shock: there is a bit in the middle that i don't really care for, but on a whole, this disc is much better than Vol. 2 imo
Re: Diggers - Transitions 3
heard the sampler podcast yesterday....it was too good to ignore so my first iTunes purchase ever....Transitions vol3...this set just kicks ass, and im not a huge digweed fan...
with the itunes download, you get each track individually, unmixed. then you get the whole thing mixed together as one track.
this is going to get heavy replay fa sho

Something about tracks 11-15, they range from listenable to borderline irritating. That bit of the mix didn't do it for me :what That said, he maintained the flow and energy in Transitions 3 very well, has a more consistent feel than vol 1 and 2.
