                                                                                                                                                 John Digweed – Transitions Vol.3

Digweed returns with the eagerly anticipated third volume in his critically acclaimed Transitions series...

Transitions Vol.3 finds John delivering a peak-time reflection of his current sound, "Musically speaking, I've been shifting through the gears over the series," he says. "And we're now approaching top speed. This mix still represents an immediate snapshot of my favourite tunes and producers, but it's also about that specific energy you get at 3 or 4am at the best clubs or festivals around the world."

To capture and realise this, John worked a whopping 20 tracks into the album. "Running the tracklist up so high was a conscious decision," he elaborates, "It allowed me to generate that energy and atmosphere, which I further reinforced by creating exclusive edits." Infact every track on T3 has been given the magic touch and then, quite literally, continuously layered into the mix; in the overall running time, the passages where there isn't a mix running are actually shorter than those where they are! It's an intense ride, which in true Digweed fashion builds over its 78-minute excursion…

The mix kicks off with a track that personifies its special nature, the elusively titled COMA – coma 1. Moving on, further notable highlights from the broad musical spectrum include the innovative use of Lawrence's 'Along The Wire', broken down and part-used throughout its neighbours, Sweet N Candy and Einzelkind; the Dusty Kid / Aldo Kadiz mash-up; 'Begun The End Has' from Harthouse regular Joel Mull; the incredible Josh Wink remix of 'Someone Else' and Gui Boratto's emotive interpretation of Adam Freeland's latest.

Finally, the finished versions of T3 will also feature a second disc in the form of a CD-Rom, containing a brand new, 25-minute track from the minds of John and Nick Muir, " We started on it earlier in the year", says Digweed, "And it quite literally grew (and grew!) from there. It reached a point where it seemed better suited to an album, so hit upon the idea of marrying it with T3 as a way of giving something back to our fans." The track will be set to exclusive, never-before seen video footage of John's appearance at The Mayan in Los Angeles.

There's little question Transitions Vol.3 is John Digweed at his relentlessly, innovative best.

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

Still too many tracks for one disc IMO and it's NOT a reflection of the way he mixes live. I have never heard mix 20 tracks in ~ 80 mins live, or on any of the live sets posted here and elsewhere over the years. However the TL is a ripper.

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

I think you SHOULD submit it to Renaissance and show them how much better your design really is. I bet it gets you a few design opps.

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

Yeah I really cannot wait till he comes out here (Los Angeles) on the 1st of Sep- @ the Avalon- I never miss an appearance. Diggers is my boy!!!!! anyhow, the new volume should be hitting- but i am just anticipating hearing the new remix of heaven scent LIVE mixed by the man himself!!!! I saw him earlier this year @ GIANT village for NYE, but there is something magical when diggers throws down in these little close quarters environments - surely he never disappoints - Well everybody have a good one and i will hear from you all later-

That a good point. I wonder how the mixing will be. I am use to long break downs, and long wind in's ... so this will be the complete opposite. This will be a equivalent to a sugar rush and crash.

It will be a good cd eiteher way. Its going to be interesting to see how he mixes the tracks together. But its supposed to a peak cd.

I'm not getting the whole "not a reflection on how he plays live" business. Why the fuck should it matter? Albums are a chance to put a bit of creativity into something - a lot more difficult playing live. Why are NE1 and NE2 amongst the best albums ever? Cos they are hugely creative and do things which you would never hear out live. They blend tracks in such a way the mix becomes more than its parts. If I want to hear 11-14 tracks mixed together I'll go out to a club. With this CD I want to hear something thats creative and well made.

Look it doesn't matter he can do WTF he wants. As for NE1 and NE2 and Expeditions etc. etc. I agree with you entirely but not one one of those comps. has > 13-14 tracks per disc and it still sounds like a great journey where the mix becomes more than its parts. I just don't think you can do it as successfully by cramming 20 tracks in 78 mins. I mean some of these tracks go for 8,9 or 10 mins, he'll have to spend more time blending than letting each track play out.

Anyway it's a new direction for him and it'll probably start a trend amongst prog. DJ's. Don't worry I'm definitely gonna buy it.

Re: Diggers - Transitions 3

he can mix in more tunes for a mix cd than steve porter does for all i care, i just know that it is going to be good, seeing as how the other 15 cds i have from him are good

How do you know without hearing it? Just because a track plays for 9 minutes doesn't mean you have to use all 9 minutes.

Look I don't know without hearing it. I'll just have to confirm it when I buy it and listen to it. I will be extremely overjoyed:D:D:D:D to be proven wrong.

I'm just coming from the viewpoint of someone who has bought tens of mix compilations over the years, many times on impulse or just because it was the only new release that week and have found that the releases where 20, 25 30 tracks are crammed onto 1 disc a la Ministry of Sound Annual 200x turn out to be crap.
