i've decided to quit smoking ganja for a while. i smoked my last bit last night, and i'm starting out fresh today. it's only been about 13 hours since i last smoked so my irritability hasn't even started yet. i know by this weekend i'm gonna be hatin it.

any words of advice from people who've successfully kicked their habit?

Re: I'm quitting....

Re: I'm quitting....

steve, try running like Lilsensa mentions. i've found it does help curb a craving and its healthier. :)

never thought i'd hear you say the words quit and pizza in the same conversation.

steve i used to be a heavy heavy smoker of that shit, i quit, i had 2, spent 6 weeks in hospital with canabis phsycosis and a further 2 years of heavy medication, people think canabis is a safe drug but i can tell u that people who think that are completely mis informed, the trouble with that is that thc isnt broken down with the liver well so it gets stored in your body fat so it keeps building and building up till the point where ur totally intoxicated with thc, dangerous stuff m8, ur doing the right thing and good luck 8)

Re: I'm quitting....

running wont work for me. i've had a fucked up right ankle that hasn't allowed me to play sports since i was 15. a calcium deposit right on the ball of my outer ankle caused serious pain for a lot of years, and even since the operation to remove it, my ankle is very stiff.

reading seems to be the first logical choice, i'm actually going to the bookstore later today to grab a couple.

pot is the only drug i use regularly, everything else is in moderation or reserved for abuse at wmc.

Re: I'm quitting....

Since you can't run or do anything with your injured foot, do pushups and situps...I bought a pull up bar and put it in the doorway of my room, and whenever I felt like I wanted to smoke, I would do some pull ups or push ups...Also, a weird habit I got into was that I wouldn't allow myself to leave my room without doing some pull ups first..It works..

Re: I'm quitting....

Re: I'm quitting....

good luck Jib. I quit smoking about 5 yrs ago. Just try to keep busy for about a month or 2 and you should be alright. You could start djing more or take a class at your local college.

Re: I'm quitting....

best of luck to you, i've been off it for almost 2 years. think of all the things you'll get done now...you could, like, have a monthly radio show or something...

Re: I'm quitting....

have a perfectly good girlfriend leave you because of it, and then join the Air Force. Thats how I quit. But for real man I'm proud of you bro. Best thing I can say is stay busy. Do something to where you are tired as hell by the end of the day. and do your best to sever ties for the time being or at least some how make it less accessible to yourself. reading is a good start. either way good luck man.;)

Re: I'm quitting....

I have to say that I recently did the exact same thing. Quit smoking cold turkey. I have been smoking every day for the last 12 years and until the last 4 weeks the longest I'd gone without smoking was three days. It's really not that difficult and to be honest I think people who say that it is are kind of being over dramatic. It does suck, for sure, but you can still have a few beers and see DJs and hit on girls and all of that. You lose weight (I'm pretty thin so I only lost 5 lbs but I know people who were heftier who lost more) and find that you're much more stable from a mood perspective-the last thing I noticed was irratibility. Playing some sort of sport(not "running" or "lifting" but an actual sport) has been a tremendously helpful piece of the regimen and I'd stress finding some sport you can play with your preexisting injury rather than finding things you can't.

Good luck amigo and enjoy the enhanced productivity that accompanies the switch ;)

P.S. I find that telling myself there will always be a few occaisions where I'll get high in the future (after a considerable period of weening) helps take the edge off as well.

Re: I'm quitting....

Here's the recipe, I hope this helps you too, It did help me get clean, and feel a lot better, start going to a Sauna bath, or something similar, do this regularly, this is great for removing all the toxins that you still have in your body, then stick with a low calorie and low fat diet, cut the alcohol and coffee as much as you can and drink lot's of water and tea, this is a general cleansing recipe, also try to keep your mind busy, and try to break off your routines as much as possible.

Re: I'm quitting....

I quit because i'm practicing a more healthy lifestyle and smoking blunts and blazing bongs just arn't very complementing to that. I smoked weed for about 4 years (ages 16 - 20) during that time i've smoked the best of the best and the worst of the worst, i've smoked everyday for over a year, basically i've been there done that. I quit a few months ago and it wasn't hard at all, now i just blow weed money on clothes and other things, so instead of having that druggy stoner look, i look fresh as hell and am much better with the ladies. Weed was turning all my friends into fuckups, and i was trying to "step my game up", so in order to actually do that i had to quit smoking. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with blazing after a long day and all, but I just didn't want to be 26+ living in my moms basement, smoking weed, fucking around on the internet all day, working a shitty job, etc. etc. Contrary to what "studies" may say, weed turns you into a dumbass.

Re: I'm quitting....

I was quite the pot head for 5 years then I had to quit for random drug tests. After the first week or two you don't even notice it. Just exercise a lot and don't hang out where people are smoking for a while. However, after quitting I have smoked every once and a while and the high sucks... Full of paranoia...and I get all spun out. Thats just my experience though.

haha, so true. I maybe smoke once a year or so, whenever my wife goes away to visit her sisters. Its not half of what it used to be, sometimes I miss that ear to ear shit eating grin high, but I know I'm the better for it now. (the music still sounds just as good though).

Re: I'm quitting....

the key to quitting smoking is exposure. If your not exposed to it, you don't need it. Sooner or later though your gonna need some will power

On a slightly different note, I quit smoking cigarettes 5 weeks ago and counting. Definitely feeling irritable and aggro, but I'm surprised I managed to hold out this long.

You're a very lucky person. Cannabis psychosis is the warm-up state before full blown bi-polar or schizophrenic disease hits in. These illnesses indicate not just a mental state alteration but an actual physiological change to the anatomy of the brain. Any more pot matey & you'd really not be feeling yourself if you get what I mean....

Like many other mood altering substances THC(pot, ganja etc.) modulates the release of dopamine which is essential for the actual feeling of pleasure you get when you're doing something pleasurable. So I prescribe for you a week-long orgy of sex, combined with a Thai massage, whilst eating your favourite food, whilst Sasha and Diggers do a tag-team back to back marathon in the night-club of your choice, all at once simultaneously. That oughta make you forget the weed for a while.

Re: I'm quitting....

drink tea, eat vegetables and fruits, avoid fat in your food, make lots of excercises in which you finish wet and wasted, take a bath and go to sleep. I personally do some "spiritually routine" like reiki and meditation, or any of that "inside" stuff.

Re: I'm quitting....

Get a decent girlfriend Stevo, that will keep you off ;)

@ Red: ftw man, medication? I smoked that shit for 15yrs and never heard of that. But you're right: it's a dangerous drug, especially when you see the THC levels in pot overhere lately. You can't call it soft drugs anymore...
