where did you hear this???? i want facts to back this up.
If your refering to my post. I know this because a guy I know cutts vinyl and he says he has do do certain mastering things to make certain frequencies transfer to vinyl well. Hes been audio engineering to vinyl for ten years so I believe him. He told me all the tracks always sound warmer in the midrange once put onto vinyl and the highs loose the cripness they had before the transfer.
Not saying it is a bad thing but it is just what happens.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
I think Gonzales is right: the quality cannot get better when transferred, that is impossible. What IS possible however is that the vinyl ads the warm and full flavour to the sound which so many people love. Not better in the absolute sense then, but different in a positive way ;)
I love vinyl but with that stuff being so incredibly expensive at the moment, I'm gonna re-enter dj-ing with CDJ's and digital music. Too bad, but probably the best choice for me.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
I have been listening to some older vinyl stuff, and a lot of it...personally...i think has to do with the way it was recorded, mixed, and mastered. A lot of tracks just flat out stink with the way they were recorded. I was listening to some Jimi yesterday and hearing it i'd love to strangle Chas Chandler and Eddie Kramer for fucking up what could have been an awesome recording.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
Last night as I was packing some of the last vinyl's off my shelf I came across a Bedrock record. Evol D - Insect OMFG!!! what a fucking track!!!!
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
Id love to use vinyl but getting em in my country is almost impossible since there are only 1 or 2 shops and they dont have the good stuff. CDs are just more practical, dowload, burn and play. smaller also. technology advances, and its for good :)

You're on the right track here. Whenever a tracks is to get released, the master copy the artist provides is mastered for the media it is going to get released on (either digital or vinyl). it is true that high-end is not that crisp, but that's a limitation of the vinyl pressing and playback process, it can go up to just 18KHz, so mastering engineers account for that during the creation of the vinyl master. However, sometimes that "crispness" you're referring to may be just overblown high-end due to poorer home-studio equipment, etc.
To me it's just a question of personal taste whether you like your sound sharper and crisper, but lacking somewhat in the mids and the bottom end (that "metallic"-sounding bass, I'm not a native speaker, so I'm using a term from my background) or you prefer solid, punchy low-end and warmer mids and highs. It's not a loss of quality, it's just a different kind of quality and it ultimately comes down to personal choice.

Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
if only there were more people in this world that cared as much about music as we do.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
Hey, but that would makes us less special man :D
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
nah, we are still special. So it would make us extra special.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
Im so happy i found this place for music!! Teens say they like vinyl records over CDs
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
one thing I will definately give vinyl an edge with is ease of playing. I prefer the crips sound of digital and producers are starting to improve their digital tracks to add warmth and whatnot that got left behind when they stopped putting tracks on vinyl.
But..... Cdjs just arent as fun to play on as vinyl. I love how easy it is to speed up or fix problems with a slight touch on a record. No cdj has been able to replicate the feel of the techs so far.
Im goin cdj all the way now cuz I love playing my own tracks and stuff that NOONE else has but I cant wait for the technology to catch up and make playing cds more comfortable.
Re: CD's vs Vinyl and Why!
i actually this morning just saw a piece on tv that said vinyl is back on the rise and was interviewing all these people from vinyl pressing plants. It was pretty cool.
