after watching his movie, and actually loving it and backing the idea.... this disappoints me.

nothing like blaming everyone else, and making it a huge deal, which it is, but then averaging 20 times more energy consumption than anyone else...

like barbara streisand biching about car pollution while owning 5 vehicles, all larger than a typical SUV.

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

What takes the piss out of me are those moronic attacks on a guy who's actually making sense. What? He'd be free of criticism when he drives a horse and chariot, living in a clay made hut and hugging at least three trees per day? Ow pulleeeez.

There sure is a valid point in there, but it's oh so easy to shoot the guy who sticks out his neck.

Exactly. And were supposed to ignore that there's no such thing as Global Warming?

There is no Global Warming. It is not even a theory, just an idea.

Global Warming my ass.... have you'll seen how much its fucking snowed.... Portland, Missouri and Northern NY have enough ice to make slushie's for the entire planet

global warming = more evaporation = more rain/snow

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

^^ while I dont have a phd in global warming, logically, I'm pretty certain rising temperatures will not result in more snow cause its not cold enough to freeze the moisture or rain water on its way down.

hey im with kinky, but i was pointing out that it is better to lead through action than talk. i can say im a pacifist on TV, but if im starting bar fights every saturday, how good are my words. so a guy who is embarking on an admirable venture for our planet should at least act as he says.

i don't have a phd in it either, but i do have an undergrad in earth & atmospheric sciences. as far as it not being cold enough for snow...global warming is serious at a rate that wouldn't warm the planet up as much as people think. we've only raised the mean temperature by 1 degree centigrade. its still plenty cold enough for snow, despite all the warming, of which a large portion is going into melting polar ice. and at cloud altitude, it is always cold, and it only needs to be just below freezing for the snow to make it to the ground.

high pressure and low pressure systems my friend. The drastic differences in air pressure are what you should be looking at, not just temperature itself.

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

Firstly I think I would need a lot more information before I formed an opinion and I would also want to know where the information was coming from. This was in one of our forums,

"The Tennessee Center for Policy Research claims to be "independent, non-profit and non-partisan" even though it's objectives sound suspiciously like those of the current US administration: http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/page.php?page_id=27

Dig a bit further, and the President of the Tennesse Center for Policy Research, Drew Johnson, used to work at the American Enterprise Institute: http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/...?article_id=89

The American Research Institute is a conservative think tank which emerged as one of the leading architects of the second Bush administration's public policy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...rise_Institute

Maybe Gore's mansion uses a lot of power, but I smell a smear campaign. There was an article in the latest Economist that with so many candidates already announced for the 2008 election, the public may soon tire of them all, leaving the way open for a late candidate to make a surprise run, and who better placed than the newly resurgent Al Gore."

yes I read that global warming will affect those areas of the world drastically during the freezing months, where the average temperature year around is below freezing i.e. the Poles and so during the months there's more evaporation, yes there will be more snowfall when it freezes.

So I'll go back and re-iterate what I'm saying.... what Global Warming, its still snowing like a beyotch in NY

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

The thing that pisses me off is Gore is such a frontman for the movement. Hes not a scientist and doesnt have all the answers. I am an avid environmentalist- I recycle everything I can, try to implement green ideas and technology- anything to help lessen the burden on the future generations. However, it appears to me that Al just feel into the right "slot". He hopped on the bandwagon and spoke up because nobody else was being heard. The fact that they made him a poster boy and relate his face to environmental movement is just dumb. Somebody else needs to take his place. Someone who practices what they preach and can deliver solid forward progress. Pulling a Micheal Moore with the environment gives people a Fox news something to talk about, which gets us no where. Just keep spinning those wheels.

LOL, my best friend called me up and left the funniest message on my machine a couple weeks of ago. We had just gotten a major blizzard here in Upstate NY. I sent all my friends pictures of the 2+ feet of snow we got. My friend calls me up and says hes in parking lot down in Atlanta spinning donuts trying to emit as much exhaust as possible in hopes to heat the atmosphere to melt off the snow. I just laughed. :what

During the winter months, the average temperature for the upper half of north america & europe is below freezing, so the same principle applies.

My point exactly, thanks Jeff. That is exaclty what the leader of the green envromental movement should be doing. An off grid home sets the perfect example.

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.
and does that justify more snow ?
You start developing more disparities which = heavier rainfall and heavier snow. Global Warming is cyclic - it's not that it just raises temperatures and that's it. There is a circulation of weather at various latitudes which brings in certains amount of moisture or dry air. Temperature is just a starting point; a catalyst in weather.

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

Ignore the future people, maybe it'll go away...

@ Kamal: dude, global warming leads to climate change and more extreme weather. Btw, your reasoning is pretty much a charicature: "It snows in the US, so global warming must be a hoax." The world is a tad bigger than the US and tbh, here in Europe we've been having the warmest winter in centuries. To that extent even that the snow (if there was any) never was of good quality in the ski resorts.

#812386Post 40 of 72

Re: al gore, hypocrtical bastard.

This mud sling of an article was quickly debunked. Gore gets his power from Tennessee's green energy provider, which produces power from wind farms, methane, etc. He also participates in carbon offsetting, the end result of which is that he has been "carbon neutral" for a while.

How anyone can doubt his commitment to the environment is simply laughable. It has been his main issue for the past 30 years.

Overall this exposes the retreating front of the anti-AGW crowd. Gone is the debate over whether GW is anthropologically caused, now they've sunk to merely attacking Gore's character.
