I mean I'll always accept that tracks that sound poor on the radio may sound great in a club with the speakers etc, but a lot of the stuff out today is just minimalistic, electro pap for the sake of it. The essence of dance music IMO is a decent beat with a good melody, not this so called Nintendo sound (great genre naming by the way)

yes definatly....
but nobody ever topped digweed when he was playing the prog sound ....no one even came close...thats why Its impossible for some of us to understand the new "nintendo" sound that he now loves.
its kinda a good thing though because i have discovered alot of djs that i probably would have never known had diggers not changed his sound

^ hear hear chuck, although it is a shame because like tiddles said, digweed was pretty untouchable when he was caning the prog sound.
At least Cattaneo can sometimes pull that prog sound off to great effect

I am going to see him here in Austin Wednesday because I have not seen him live yet. I have been trying for years to get to a show. I would have given my left "poncho" ;) to see him between 99 -2002. I am going to settle for this because I look at it like this: even if he plays tracks that stink I will still be able to watch him and listen to the magic he pulls of as a DJ. Even though the music may have changed he can still work the tables like a madman. So I will stand there and listen for the smooth transitions, the tweaks, and breaks he makes and pretend I am enjoying it. That will be my only consolation if he plays crap. I may never get a chance to see him again so I can only hope he brings the "party like its 1999"

Right. And if [I]any[/I] of you guys went to see Digweed at Twilo there would be no comparison to what he plays now. Some recent sets have moments (i.e. Digweed at Ruby Skye in June) but hearing Digweed lay down the meanest motherfucking progressive house you've ever heard in your life with Phazon piercing your ears at 5am in the morning has no comparisons and will never have any comparisons. There...done.

i think alot of the bleep blip blap crap you guys are hearing is a reflection of where digweeds head is at right now, hes stuck in between planet electro-prog and planet minimal, i think he is most defanitely "jumping on the bandwagon", and trying to look like he's on the cutting edge (his latest mix on renaissance was a snorefest) when in reality he needs to realize that ivan smagghe will always slaughter him when it comes to electro house and that he will never be as cutting edge as richie hawtin and wont be able to fly the minimal banner as the likes of villalobos and luciano do, he needs to realize he's a prog house dj and one of the best ones thats ever graced the decks, he cant be in all these other sub genre camps trying to do things there , we see what happens when he tries to do so, I listen to digweed when i want to hear quality prog (g.u. hong kong is legendary imo), but now he just sounds like a bad imitation of other djs who are master of their respective sounds, only time will tell what will happen...

And what are you comparing the almighty Twilo to sporto? You ever been to Renaissance? or Club UK? The Eclipse? anywhere in Ibiza? Even Fabric in recent years? How the fuck can you say nothing compares to it? You aint got a fucking clue mate, sort it out ffs :!:

I would be very sad if I would think that nothing nowadays can beat what I heard 5 or 10 years ago. Music, Styles and preferences change and so do I. Nowadays I take less drugs then in the 80ties and 90ties so alone seeing it from this perspective, I enjoy music different now and get my kicks more from the Music itself than I used to.
I still see and saw enough DJs playing who literally tore people apart with what they played and I can't even think of one Year in my Life where I did not hear enough good music to be blown away. I just do not understand this complaining thingie and comparing 2006 to 1999 and why people don't allow DJs the Freedom to develop and change just like they claim to do for themselves without thinking about it. I listened to Metal, New Wave and then in the late 80ties to Industrial music and then came the Happy Rave 90ties phase followed by Trance and Progressive in the end of the 90ties till I started listening to Progressive, Progressive breaks and nowadays mostly Progressive House or Tribal.
Every phase had its time and I would not want to miss one of those segments but if a mate or especially somebody I hardly know would blame me all the time that I don't listen to this or that kind of Music anymore and am a Wussie because of that, he would annoy the fuck out of me and I bet it is the same for DJs if people approach them or if they read E-Mails where others (who don't know them and/or give a fuck why it is like is) want the "old DJ XYZ" back. Horrible thought that people do not let you do your thing but want you to play a role...do what they like best and - may God prevent it - never change. Live and let live and move on if you need to but don't expect the World not to change because you are changing all the time as well...I know I sound like the text in a fortune cookie in a random chinese restaurant :lol: but that's how I see it.

it's a good EM,
but the fact the bedtrock Cd was pretty much identical. meant i tried of both of them very quickly.
with regards to Diggers current sound. i definitely loved his old sound. it was in a league of its own. However, if he was still playing it, i think it would have become boring. it has a special place due to nostaglia. things move on and develop. his new sound at times can be more difficult to get into, but when the boy is laying it down in the club, it gets your ass shaking.

Yes, I've been to Ibiza and I've been clubbing a shitload of other places. With respect to sound, Fabric/Womb are the only ones that match Twilo. With respect to mean progressive house, nothing beats what Digweed played at Twilo. Nothing. Even Fabricheads that made the trip across the pond to Twilo during it's heyday said the Phazon sounded the same but that Digweed was meaner and tougher with his sets. Twilo was dark and dirty yet had yielded a high quality nightlife experience. That's hard to match these days. Fabric/Womb - probably the closest with respect to sound and total experience.

You put it correctly. A lot of the stuff Digweed played in '98, '99 and '00 was straight up progressive trance. It's pretty hard to get away with that these days, even if it's peak time. The last true peak time track I heard Digweed lay down was his edit of Chab's "Us & Them" when he played Crobar after WMC a few years back. The problem was that he followed it with Lonestar's "New Kicks" which took the energy level down, significantly. Back in the Twilo days you'd hear an hour straight of absolutely annihilating music where you couldn't dance hard enough. Hands were in the air and the place was ballistic.

:D:D i have to say since this em is the pretty much the same as the Bedrock cd, i tend to go with the mix cd; which, by the way, is probally my favourite cd ever. There are other mixes that are even with it, but this is such a damn good mix. i still listen to it constantly. The fact he "based" the cd on this night at Twilo makes it even better.:Respect::Twilo:

'Expeditions' and 'Communicate' are also based on nights at Twilo. I can tell you that a lot of the tracks played at Twilo were indeed put on 'Communicate'. Check out it out yourself:
