Sharam is here (San Diego) tonight w/Nic Fanciulli.

May catch Nic's set and run (gotta work in the am). Sharam just hasn't done it for me live lately.

Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17

I stopped grabbing Deep Dish sets 6 months ago. I just can't get into the electronics sound, and add cheesy house. Forget it.

Not many mention it, but I stopped grabbing most Zabiela sets too (except for the 4.3 series - which was very good). Again, the Bleepy Star Wars Zippy Zappy sound just makes my mind troubled and unsettled. Maybe a lot like it, but the proggy sound is still alive for me, and no where close to dieing.

I'll pass on the set all together!

i haven't listened to much JZ outside of the 4 sets either. I think they are by far his best stuff...plus they are given away by him for free...how cool is that.

I gave both discs a listen this afternoon for the first time. . . . . and the last.

I know everyone has their own tastes, but this really did bore me from painful beginning to eagerly anticipated end.

Thats 2 hours and 35 minutes I will forget quickly.
I Totally agree, both cds are SHIT...

:x

Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17

Sorry to bump this thread up, as I know it probably should be deleted. But, I thought I'd give this a listen... afterall, it is GU............. right? I had to give my 2 cents worth.

Ok, I'm listening to cd1 trying not to think about any reviews I heard on here. Track 1 sounded promising, had a kind of warmth about it that I usually expect from oldschool deep dish stuff. But! (always a but)

But right off the bat, the transistion from track 1 to 2, just doesn't seem "right". I dunno if its off, or if my ears are just playing tricks on me... it just doesn't sound right. (ok, I might be being picky, but I thought it was quite obvious)

Anyway, I'm only halfwayish and I'm struggling to go on... but I will. I won't comment on the tracks (such as EXCESS vocal tracks) as I haven't heard the entire thing yet. But what is really pissing me off, and why I'm writing a partial review during listening is because, WTF is with the obvious plateau's between each transistion... its like 30 seconds of just plain beats, then next track kicks in. Is this a mix or a showcasing of tracks?

I've tried my best to keep an open mind even besides my preconceptions of it. However, if this continues, I'm turning it off.

Btw

^^^ I'll admit to that... been turned off really. Going to his gig is a different story because he puts on a great show... but I think there is an abundance of cheesy tech-house ruling his sets. He needs to play a more dirty breaks, more of a prog sound, or even some wicked minimal tech to keep it "techy" or something like that... instead of bleep bleep bleep. Comeon JZ, I know you can do it!!! :D

Sharam is playing in this Ulta Fashion look at me I have money club here in Geneva this Friday promoting this new GU cd, no way I am going , I was keeping faith in deep dish and saying maybe they are just securing their retirment money and one day they will go back to underground music, but I think they became way too GAY in their music to be able to come back of it.

...and furthermore from my previous post on the previous page. I've come to the end of cd1. And the verdict. This was hands down the worst GU I've ever heard. I'm not even gonna bother with disc2.

Over and out.

That is the key to this whole thing right there. B/C when I look at the tracklisting for disc 1- It appears to be the shit- 16 Bit Lolitas, Jiva (Sultan & Ned), Creamer & K, Pig & Dan- I mean what more could you want? These are some of the top producers in the past few years and maybe these tracks are shedding some light on what is to come in the future. And just to comment on the way the tracks have been mixed, I thought that the mix from "Look Around" to "Passing Light" (2-3) was ACE. It had a very classic mix feel to it- the two tracks overlapped for a good amount of time, then track two starts to fade and the beat from track three comes stomping in. Im not sure what all you complainers are looking for, as I am having a hard time understanding whats so bad about this disc? Sure, Sharam's style is very housey with tons of vocals- so what, at least he hasnt hopped on the electro bandwagon. Im cool with something a little bit different, toned down, with some tasty vocals.
