Not a music topic but ..... I'm looking into buying a compact digital camera. Any advice on best web sites for purchace / models? I'm looking at a Panasonic DMC LC70B for ?199 direct from Panasonic ......any good??? :unsure:

in the point and click digital world (even SLR's to an extent), I would ONLY go with a canon..... phenomenal camera's and from the easiest to use to the most complicated professional designs, you have your variety....

I recently got a G5 as a present and that's prolly the BEST present I have gotten my entire life..... bought a 1 gb flash card to complement the camera alongwith a more powerful battery and I'll tell you.... for an entire week without a recharge / running out of space + I had 400 HIGH QUALITY 1600 x 1200 sized images with the most vibrant colors...

while that is not the largest size (I think it can take 2038 x 1600 - dont remember the exact dimenstions), its a brilliantly crafted camera.

Of course if you're looking for something smaller, take a look at their "S" line of models..... i.e. the S400 / S500

I bought the S400 for my brother on his wedding and it's another awesome camera.... small, lightweight, and with 4 MP's from Canon, you cant go wrong

I'm after one too, thinking about Fujifilm A310 8)

I'm not that into cameras, so trying to budget around ?100-150, any other suggestions.................

the main reason I'm getting one is because the miss' is due in 4 weeks and it would be alot easier to email photo's of the newborn around to family and friends!

Thanx in advance :D

Have got a Cannon Ixus v3. Wicked camera, though the software with it is a little clunky/sketchy.

that sounds f-ing incredible... if you don't mind me asking, how much did all that run you (excluding the camera since it was a present). where did you find the gear? i'm thinking about digital cams myself at the moment.

I bought both on Tiger-Direct.com for about $250 (including overnight shipping) cause I was due to leave town shortly....... the 1 gb flash card was about $179 if I remember correctly and the Energizer battery was about $29.

I'll upload some sample pictures taken from my G5 on my recent trip to Hilton-head....incredible camera I'll tell you that.... and right now buy.com has some specials going on where the camera is running about USD 499 with $20 mail in rebate I think. It's a phenomenal value for a 5 MP camera.....

Re:: Digital Cameras .....

i'm glad this topic came up.

Cannon eh? I was looking as sony's and cannons.

any advice on this puppy for under $500?

5.1mp ... 3x digital zoom....2.5in display.

i like it because it's small.

For that $$ is a Cannon that much better?

#242432Post 17 of 95

is that the DSCT1?

thats a good camera :Bingo:

#242438Post 18 of 95

Fuck Yes Sir Jenks.

Canon Owns. Period.

They have the best optics and best technology behind them, in them, around them. I only buy Canon products, and stick by them 110%. If you want to go with something that will make other pros laugh at you ... just get anything but a Canon.

Here goes ...

 1. PowerShot Pro 1
 2. PowerShot G5
 3. PowerShot S1 IS (for you fucking pervs 10x optical)
 4. PowerShot G6 (just because I have not got to touch one yet)

I love Canon. They do a super job on every detail and aspect. They have a lot of respect from the "pro" world and there is a reason why other companies always copy them. They are the leader, and always will be. Sure they are little more $$$ ... but a picture of your newborn at 5mega or higher ... pricelss with Canon.

There optics are the best, that makes most of the camera. The rest really does not matter. If you want something to slip under that 18 year old dress go with Sony ... if you want remarkable quality and your moneys worth go with Canon.

Done. The End.

its not that bad :Wasted:

Re:: Digital Cameras .....

DO NOT GET A SONY. While they might have the most expensive, some may say best, lenses >carl zeiss?< they are fucking crap. I had a cybershot something or other that I bought about 3yrs ago. After two years of heavy use it took a shit on me; batteries weren't communicating with the rest of it. I called sony and they wanted 500bucks to fix a camera that cost me 900. Needless to say after asking around my camera was toast... so I spiked it at my wall and destroyed it. Now there are lots of canon fans here and rightfully so.... they have very high quality leica lenses and chipsets, they are pretty easy on the wallet, and they are just nicely crafted. However from my experience I've used a few fujis, a lot of canons, some hurting sonys, and a lot of nikons. The absolute best camera you can buy for under $500 is the Nikon 4500. It has a million features and operates great as a point and shoot or if you want to get more technical. But if you want something more along the lines of that sony jenks, nikon makes a 5200 that is about the same feature wise and on price point. The camera will last forever it takes beautiful shots and they have great customer service.Thats all I have to add. :wink:

Re:: Digital Cameras .....

The giant industry trade show is a few weeks away - Photokina. Canon has just announced a slew of new models including the 20D SLR. Might be a good time to get a one year old model on the cheap as dealers will be blowing them out to make room for the new stuff.

Have to disagree on the above - as far as compacts are concerned, the Sony mentioned by Jenks above is an excellent camera, and, if I could afford it, I would buy it instead of my Canon Powershot S410 (an great camera in its own right, but doesn't compare to this Sony feature-wise). Digital SLRs are da shit too - Nikon D70 is an awesome camera that I salivate over, but can't afford the $$$

Try buydig.com - I believe it retails for $418 there with shipping included, and this retailer is legit (I bought two cameras from them already).

Somy's 5-megapixel compact competitor is Canon S500 - a great camera, but the price difference is a modest ~$35; price/value-wise, the Sony is just plain better.

Re:: Digital Cameras .....

I bought the Canon S400 Digital Elph as my first digital camera and love it. Its small, loaded with features, and takes amazing pics and videos. Its the perfect camera to carry around with you in the club or for anything. Fits right in your pocket. I've probably seen 4 times as many people carrying around a canon elph than all other cameras combined around clubs. Its just great.

I highly recommend it.

#242716Post 32 of 95

Jenks. If you are serious about buying a digi, check out the site I listed. You can really learn a lot about the technologies, and they also do a side by side report with other close cameras. Really Really Great.

In case you are lazy ... http://www.dpreview.com/ ... :wink:

#242733Post 33 of 95

some of my friends got Sony, i went with Canon A80 instead. paid 30% less for a better camera. Its CCD is excellent, works with cheap compact flash cards and image quality is the best.

Sony tends to over-enhance colors to the point they don't seem realistic. Seen that on Sony V1, one expensive camera.

On the good side, some Sony have Nightshot (i find it useless) and nighframing (that i could use)

Sony and better do not go in the same sentence. That company is fucking WORTHLESS. All they make is bullshit now. And this is not up for debate its a god damned fact.

#242754Post 35 of 95

i pretty much hate sony for everything. TV's, those shitty so called 'industry standard' dj headphones, dvd players, etc, etc.

i am just getting up to speed with digital cameras, Cannon looks like the way to go judging from palmer and dom's recos and the awesome reviews on that dpreview site.

what i want is a small camera, high quality, that takes excellent pics despite it's small size (which is why i was looking at that sony, but not anymore.)

The S500 seems to be small enough, but still packing a nice resolution.

anyone have this?

the comparison chart on that site is impressive.

#242832Post 36 of 95
anyone have this?

I have the S410, which is very similar, minus the 5 MP resolution (has 4 instead). I toyed with the idea of buing the S500, but decided that $100 more was not worth an extra MP. But now the price differential between the two models is smaller.

Whoever is dumping on that Sony compact - is wrong, though. Memory Stick is the only bad thing 'bout it, and the prices have been dropping there too.

#242834Post 37 of 95

double post

#242859Post 38 of 95

so you like the site ... ? :wink:

ps that is a good camera Jenks ... here is the direct canon link http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=9825 and here are some sample images. plus plus a true player camera ... http://consumer.usa.canon.com/app/pdf/d_camera/s410-s500_coachgiftset.pdf

plus it also does movies ! ! ! !

Yeah!!!! C-A-N-O-N

No ifs, buts or maybes. My S500 baby is doing all sorts of cool shit. My Sasha videos and pics were all on the S500, here's one of my favourite shots with the ixus (elph) 500:
