Re: Hummer H3
gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of the Cayenne. I like the Porsche brand, but I just don't like the styling of that model at all. If I pay for a Porsche, I want it to look like a Porsche.
Re: Hummer H3
i love my G35. stick with cars, not trucks, unless you are like jenks and actually have a valid reason to require the use of a flatbed.
Re: Hummer H3
Only reason I have an SUV are simply for my toys. Sure a car can tow my jet ski or my four wheelers but I'm not taking the chance of not being able to pull my ski out of the bay on boat ramp that is steep as hell and I damn sure don't want to take my quads to the woods and get stuck on something stupid like I see way too often.

I agree with the "valid reason" part (althought there are a number of good reasons). A women driving an Exploder to work because she likes to sit up high and feel powerful is not one of them, btw. :x That's every other car I see in my daily commute.
Re: Hummer H3
Jenks ... a beautiful car inside and out. 8) The only thing that bothers me is the steering wheel. For some reason I can not get over the tri-spoke. Not sure what it is, but bothers the heck out of me. It's ok I would get it replaced with fly-by-wire.
Actually I never really cared about them until one Summer night, I was getting on the interstate and I heard this rocket coming towards me. I thought it was Al Qaeda attacking my dear PDX. I was terribly worried. I looked over my shoulder and witnessed a beautiful white car. Of course it was the Porche Turbo Cayenne it sounded so beautiful. I have never heard such a sound in my life. I know it was going at least 90+ because my needle was all ready 80, and the car flew by me. and i fell in love. the end.
PS. Jenks. You can put your lumber in a trailor. I just hope it stays attached.
Re: Hummer H3
From another board that I frequently visit, my new love is the BMW 330Ci
....I test drove a performance package equipped 330Ci (06 Model) at a local dealership and I will attest that I have never felt the way I did when I pushed the car.... and that too test driving it in the RAIN.
Was coming onto a 270 degree On-Ramp leading to the freeway, it was raining pretty hard and I was in the far left lane. I realized late I had to turn and seeing no one was behind me, I floored it and cut across 2 lanes (was doing about 55 mph when I hit the gas). By the time I was halfway onto the Ramp, the car was betyween 70-75 with NO signs of slipping/losing grip.
At this point, the car was so fast that in comparison to my 97 TL (and most cars I test drove till date), I would have pretty much slipped off the road, but seeing how the 330Ci was pinned to the ground, I just let the speed climb. My internals were just flooded with Adrenaline at this stage because my mind had pretty much gone way beyond the normal "Speed Vs. Turning Capacity". But this Bimmer just wanted more.
Finally I was done with the turn and on the interstate and the Dealer (sitting in the back) said "Thank God my boss isn't around".
Best test drive I've ever had......

armada is the exact same thing w/ a nissan badge instead of infiniti...so it's still an overbloated gas guzzling hideous piece of shit. just a bit more reasonably priced!
Actually, you've got that backwards. The Infinity is basically a Nisan with the Infinity badge on it. ;)
Re: Hummer H3
The three series need to be slightly longer and wider. Those cars are so fucking tiny.

Not judging as I am no one to judge anyone, however simply making an observation. Personality dictates behavior. If you are an attention whore of course you are going to do whatever you can to get all you can. Thus, any of the Hummer line.

Re: Hummer H3
Just saw a review on Motorweek (worst show ever) on the Acura RDX, and I was completely surprised to find that it looks really good as far as small car-based SUVs go. Decent power for the class, paddle shifter automatic, SH-AWD (Acura RL), and typical Ac nice interior.
Re: Hummer H3
I don't try to stop anyone, and I'm not some left-wing environmentalist...but I must admit that I've never gotten the point of driving an SUV. I've never understood why people need something which really starts to resemble a short bus with off-roading all wheel drive capability just to propell their asses down some 35 mph limit paved road and park in some suburban strip mall lot. Not surprisingly, Hummers therefore also do nothing for me. Particularly with gas prices as they are now, I see no point in ever spending money for either. If I'm gonna spend extra money on hydrocarbons, I'd just as soon spend it on my petroleum-based vinyl records. :D

That show host seriously needs a voice lift (if there is such a thing). He talks like his nuts were squeezed right through the 30 minutes of the show.
Anyways you right about the RDX, I like that crossover a lot man. Apparently thanks to the positioning of the Engine with a few other tricks, they were able to get an unusually high power band. It's a turbo-charged 4 cylinder (iirc) with the RL's SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) and probably THE BEST interior I've seen till date. Not to mention it runs like the wind.
I wish they'd change the grill which I personally didn't think fit well with the headlamp unit but overall, its a decent car. It would have been even more decent if it was $3 - 4 grand cheaper, then it would have competed well with the CX-7, but it's still a good car.
Re: Hummer H3
That is the comparison, it's just like the sedans, Mazda 6 vs TSX. You spend a bit more for the Acura, but you get a bit more. I looked at the CX-7 and it's nice, but for whatever reason just didn't impress me much. It looked like a Mazadaspeed 6 with a lift and I could not think of a single reason why I would get one over a Subaru Legacy GT Wagon.
Re: Hummer H3
I could not think of a single reason why I would get one over a Subaru Legacy GT Wagon.
I'd have to disagree on that.... the market image of the subaru is mom's / income conscious families. And the Legacy Model is the leader of the Subaru clan of builds. Not to mention Subaru as a car manufacturer is so-so (I'd probably only give them the Kudos for WRX-STi's).
I had a few friends back from college who owned Subaru's that would rattle to the point of self destruction above 60 mph, the cars just didn't age well.
On the other hand, the CX7 (and Mazda overall in recent times) is more youthful and image befitting to those who are looking to spend the little extra in keeping with the times. And the CX-7 was actually re-designed from the RX-8 as opposed to the 6 (I think the only thing they stole were the clear tail lights from the Speed-6). I personally grew quickly tired of the way the 6 looked but heck the RX-8 is spot on and the CX7 maintains it well.
The Mazda vs Acura comparison overall wouldn't be fair simply because Acura is Honda's Luxury division as opposed to a run of the mill Mazda.
Other than the interior of the Mazda (which is crap compared to the RDX), I personally would give a lot of points to their exterior design + engineering department for maintaining a lot of car like performance incorporating an Utility shell around the Chasis. I personally dig the way it looks.
Re: Hummer H3
Subarus do quite well over here but then everything sells by the assload around here. :p As for that comment about SUVs and 35 MPH roads... where the hell do you see speed limit signs that low?
Re: Hummer H3
I think Suby has stepped it up big time, take another look at the Leggy GT, not the v6 but the 2.5 turbo, it is actually the same motor as the STi, just with a different turbo and a 5 speed vs 6 speed. Those things move the fuck out, they have the best interior I've seen on a Subaru (not saying much), and the cargo room of an SUV, and a great AWD system. The only thing it lacks is the ride height of an SUV, but at least 80% of SUV owners never take advantage of that. Meanwhile you are getting the benefit of a tight responsive car instead of a tall tippy mini-van SUV. (thinks have definitely changed from that ride you took in college, in fact Subaru makes a Leggy STi in Japan).
It does have a mom image to some extent, but on the other side of the coin it has a street racer image. There's room somewhere in the middle for a cool car.

Re: Hummer H3
Pick out a new ride yet Toasty?
'fraid not. I've still got some time, though -- my warranty doesn't run until the end of the year. MDX is probably the front runner right now. Part of me is starting to really wonder if I really want an SUV at all, though. As I think I mentioned earlier in the thread, gas mileage isn't a huge deal for me, but there comes a point at which I just look at gas prices and wonder why I would intentionally put myself in the position of having to pay that much when I really don't need an SUV.
The real problem is that nothing is jumping out at me. I don't like 90% of American made vehicles out there, but I don't feel like paying what you have to pay for a foreign SUV, when I know that most of them are basically overgrown station wagons. I'd just as soon buy a luxury sedan for that amount of money. Part of the appeal of the Hummer that began this whole thread was that it was fairly rugged but still had pretty nice amenities for a pretty reasonable price.
Oh well. I'll probably start test driving some cars once it gets too cold to drop the top on my current ride...
Re: Hummer H3
2007 G35X imo
Re: Hummer H3
^In that price range, you could do better imo Toasty. I was not impressed with the 35 at all. The M is nice tho.
btw, something i don't think has been mentioned yet in the SUV category:
VW Touareg, V10 Diesel. Basically a Porsche Cayenne, with a clean burning turbo diesel engine. Fuel economy, power, suv. Again tho, doubt you'd want to take it offroad.

Re: Hummer H3
ah, had not seen the 07. nice looking (minus the wheels, would definitely go for an upgrade there, not a huge fan of multi spoke). The 06 g35 was near the bottom of the list of everything in that range imo. The 07 is looking more like the M series.
Re: Hummer H3
the only point of contention I have with the 07's are the gas consumption (in comparison to others in the same league). EPA estimates 17/24 city/highway
but then again, not too many cars are 306 ponies under the hood
