Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
With Sasha the crowd gets what it wants if the crowd doesnt get it, they feel slighted but if the crowd is clued in, he rocks it like no tommorrow not sure what the video of him and digweed was in Argentina last year but checking him working the mix in front of 50,000 people that's his high, get him going with the avaitor shades on and he will make you follow.

Your attempt at distracting me with sandwich animation has failed...
Best advice ever from the old to the young has been and will always be, I thought I knew everything when I was your age, and now when I look back, I didnt have a damn clue.
There may quite well be many subjects where you know a lot more than I do in this world, or things you have more life experience with. However if you are going to compare things now to how they were "back in the day", and you get called out on not having been to either, admit the facts and simply state that from what you have heard, this is how you feel... and most importantly, dont expect a whole lot of respect for advocating the boo-ing of any DJ for doing their thing... you are likely to get several lengthy responses from a faggot who knows when he is right :)
Didn't you post about Dark Evil Sasha appearing in Portugal last year ?
Yup. Awesome mindfuck of a set. It kinda makes me wonder why he didn´t play a similar set, but I guess you have to be in the right mindset to play such dark music~.
Here´s that thread :
http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14677&highlight=sasha+lisbon
Anyway, Sasha might unwittingly have been a revolutionary once again : after this event, there´s a huge debate going on right now over here, lots of people are saying that the comercialisation of dance music is killing it, that it´s time to take EDM back underground...something that probably is discussed a bit throughout the world, but which has been getting a lot worse here in the past couple of years.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
I agree 90%, but Sasha has LOTS of tracks with him as they all fit nicely onto a hard drive
Very true and at any point in time he has access to new tracks. From what I hear, he has a FTP server and has some of his good friends in the industry reviewing racks non stop and uploading them to the server. All he needs is an internet connection and he has um-teen tracks at his disposal. I read an article about this not too long ago. Some of the names of people scanning tracks for him were Sean Q6, C May and many more. Sasha also said that this is ground breaking for him mainly for when he is on tour. He stated that once he went on the road for a tour, whatever records he had in his box is what he played the entire tour. Now if you go see 2-3 shows on the same tour, it could be completely from the first shows.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
yeah, but he also often said that to play a tune in a gig he needs to know it by heart. Which is I guess true if he wants to do any ableton thing on it. So I don;t think he can download tracks and play them on the fly...
I agree with whoever said that people who come for a Sasha gig should more or less know what to expect. It won't be a tribal night however much you would like it to be...

Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
I'm a big Sasha fan, I think he's the overall best DJ+Producer out there. But he can certainly do wrong. First time he went to Bogota, he was so fucked up he could barely stand up and spin the records... very unprofessional imo.He went back a couple of months later and did a good job.
Whether DJs should spoil crowds, I guess there must be a balance. People go to see a certain DJ because they like his/her style, so people should know more or less what to expect. On the other hand, people are paying to be entertained, so a bit of crowd reading does seem reasonable.
By the way, the Lisbon's set sounds like a good one, hope we would be able to d/l and judge by ourselves.

Highly unlikely. I?ve been searching for his set from last year, the one I described in the thread I metioned above, and I never found it.
Shame really, I think some people would bust a nut hearing it.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
Although Sasha isnt my #1 pick, in his defense, instead of putting the full blame on Sasha, I say the event promoters and Sasha's booking agent (Im assuming he has one being the god like Dj a lot of people make him out to be) could be to blame too. They should know more about the venue and usual crowd at an event. Especially since this was only his second time.
Also, if all the top Djs like Digweed, Sasha etc played the same style over and over again and again how boring would that be? These guys are supposed to be "cutting edge" bringing us new styles and fresh music. How many times have you taken a listen to a new style set or track and thought, what the hell is this? Then eventually it grows on you and you actually start to dig it. Maybe this crowd didnt even know what hit them.....
Oh well, to bad for the crowd. Goes to show you no matter who you are you cant please everyone all the time.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
he will always be the most criticised dj because he Sets the standards.
and dark drums shit ...
easy there...haha
tobe honest with u guys.. i was at the wmc this year and partied every night.. one of the most boring nights was the sasha and diggers night..there was no vibe inthe club compared to other nights... lawler, morillo, sander.... granted i was really tired
i think i like to call the style i like nowadays party music.. be it electro- prog-etc ..just music that gets the people moving

Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
I agree that a DJ must above all else play to the crowd. Essentially the crowd pay to see the DJ and be entertained, they don't pay to hear the DJ do what he wants.
I also agree that he will be the #1 criticised DJ because he sets the standards and is a legend in the scene.
Just because he has umpteen tracks uploaded 24/7 does not mean they will be good enough to play out though. I will go out on a limb here and say the overall quality and quantity of killer tracks has reduced in the past 5 years. Way too much filler out there, not enough memorable tunes.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
easy there...haha
wow...sorry Remoh I obviously didn?t mean your show.
BTW I still occasionally enjoy tribal, but in a country where the majority of parties follow this sound, it?s easy to get tired of it.
Carry on...

Dig deeper man, there is more fucking quality shit out there now than there has been in years, although I agree there is a lot of blah out there (but it's a proportionate to the amount of stuff coming out I think)

I agree with you poto. Some of the classic tracks that we all love are hard to replace but I think that there is sooo much music and also many different types of genres out these days that it is almost impossible to even scratch the surface of the music industry. Im not a dj so I don't spend hours searching the net or record shops for the new tracks but I download so many live sets that unless the first time I listen to something it completely blows me away, it could be months before I listen to it again if I ever do listen again. I can be at a club and hear a track and think to myself "i know this track, what mix is this on?" and i never find it. There are loads of GREAT music out today so I can't really believe that the quality of good music has been reduced from a few years ago.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
I stand by what I said earlier guys. I too listen to a ton of sets a week and the music doesnt grab me like it used to - I give most sets a listen at least twice so I can get used to the tracks, but even then I will say that sets from years ago had more quality tracks on.
For instance, just look at the tracklists from Digweeds first ever kiss fm shows in 2000 - pretty much every track is a classic, or is fondly remembered at least. Not so nowadays, the tracklists are a joke IMO.

I agree. I have said this many times, but I think for the most part the so-called big name DJs shovel crap these days. All the best mixes I hear, all the best tracks, the stuff I love, comes from "underground" guys.
Frisky Radio has done a huge job exposing me to these gems, huge propes to them.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
Its true, I'm having a harder time finding sets I enjoy over and over. Whats going on?
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
I agree 90%, but Sasha has LOTS of tracks with him as they all fit nicely onto a hard drive
I was just going to post something about small hard drives these days, but maybe same shit happened like in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, where his Mac and/or Maven broke up, few hours before set, or thats what went out to the crowd. And just before the party he manages to record few CDs, so he can try to work things up.
I havent been there, but know some people who are his fans, went on a road trip of cca. 500km, to see this idiot. A friend havent spoke for 4 days, as mister big dj super star Sash/a totally utterly dissapointed him.
I myself am not going to allow myself to go to a party where he plays, heard him 3 times, two times totaly boring with no beginning nor end, and once with Mr. Digweed, where they both allmost destroyed the club (can say that this night was one of the best club nights i have ever been to in the last 9 years);)
cheers
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
Sasha could have followed the easy and trusted path of adapting to the crowd, instead he played what he wanted and got booed for it. I believe in sticking to your guns, so more power to the guy, but Sasha, please, don?t ever play arena shows here anymore.
a djs job is to entertain the crowd, not be a self indulgent twat. for the record also i wouldn't say adapting to the crowd is the "easy path" to take, quite the opposite infact!! any chump can stand up and play his favorite records, the hard bit is choosing the right ones for that instant in time and space.

Nigel I kind of agree, but here?s the scenery : imagine you being booked to play a party where most of the other dj?s play tribal stuff, and that means only a fraction of the crowd came to see you. Are you going to start playing tribal too? Or are you going to try and respect those that did pay to see YOU? If Sasha had played a tribal set, I?d be the one who?d feel disgusted.
Ideally, you should try and find a middle ground. I think it?s beautiful when a dj brings a suspicious crowd to his side. I think a dj?s job is to entertain, but also to expose people to new music.

psst..... it's called growing up.
5 years ago you were 20 and i imagine/guessing you were just getting into the scene or had been there a year or two. Of course the music had a different feel then because it was all new and wonderful. everything is memorable when it's new. trust me, there's a ton of great music out there today but nothing can capture that "feeling" from when we first started listening/dj'ing etc.....
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
i would just like to say of how utterly sick i am of hearing anthems and classics. anthems and classics are for trancers. when i download a set, im hoping to hear tracks i;ve never heard before. i want to be exposed to new directions and new ways of thinking about the music. i'd rather not hear them play the same track as every other dj.
Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
^^ ditto......... the last thing i want to hear is another remix of binary finary, beachball or cafe del mar etc....

Re: Sasha booed in Lisbon
^^ true. but it's not reasonable to assume a genre like EDM is going to remain stagnent and still sound exactly like it did in 2000. theres a reason techno is the superior alternative to rock music.

Yes please.
Also, lets not forget the mystery factor involved 5 years ago or more, where you didn't know at least half of the tracks being dropped and couldnt just get ahold of them the next day... let alone find anyone who could ID them... Your memories of those nights are a lot more tainted (positively) by your emotional memories of those nights and the satisfaction you had when leaving the party... this seriously impacts how you remember a night as is the case in all of life and the way that human beings create memories.
