Re: James Holden

pfff this board is hard :( i lost what i wanted to type 3 times now. but for a great piece of electronic music download this set: http://rapidshare.com/files/150498594/_www.b-log.se__James_Holden___4_years_of_Full_Spectrum_19-9-08_Part2.mp3.html and put it at 38 minutes (the rest of the set is also great). And i saw holden closing the night at NYE (so 10 days ago) and his set is getting more dance able compared to his other sets this year (and his style is changing again). But if u see holden when he has to play first his set will most likely be very dreamy. And tobar is just out of this world :D

so are you just talking here for one tune he played which was good or for the whole building of the set and his track selection??

i only heard a couple of his sets and didnt d/l any more...

he was a hell of a producer tho!

Re: James Holden

I like him as a producer, as a DJ.... My mother always said: If you can't say anything nice. So. I'll leave it at that.
so are you just talking here for one tune he played which was good or for the whole building of the set and his track selection??
i just want to point that part out cause its one of the biggest mystery IDs of holden + the whole set is just great (like all holdens set), its just an example of his songs here if your interested in the complete set http://rapidshare.com/files/150477460/_www.b-log.se__James_Holden___4_years_of_Full_Spectrum_19-9-08_Part1.mp3.html

and ill put some youtube links for holden most famous songs played in 08! (keep in mind that really dreamy songs sound totaly different on the dancefloor).

Re: James Holden

Mr. Holden sure has been prevalent in the P/R lately

#1148655Post 86 of 115

Re: James Holden

never liked the guy, his dj's skills have never impressed me.

i had great expectations when that "the idiots are winning" album came out, then i heard it, and that was the last of it.

disclaimer:: this is my own personal opinion, sorry if its a bit too harsh::

I really think guys like Holden, Lazarus, Dubfire and all of these cats that at a certain moment have represented the sounds of minimal, have given the genre a really bad name, like Lazarus, that dude cannot mix a pair of tunes to save his life, the same goes for holden. As far as Dubfire i really think his "bandwagon jumping" anthics are taking a toll on the genre itself, from his superstardom status now you get people calling the crap that he makes minimal, its like calling all that crap that deadmau5 makes "minimal.

like i said, this is my own personal opinion, sorry if it doesnt match that of any other music lover.

Your postings were not lost. I deleted some of them when I saw you tried again and they were dupes. The first few postings from new members or members with very few postings end up in a moderation queue and are reviewed before they are posted in public. After submitting your post, there should have been some sort of message informing you about your posting being held back till approved but I have to admit, it can easily be over looked. Anyways, sorry for the hazzle but it's over soon and we have to do it because of too many people wanting to sell their shit on here from iPhones to Nike shoes to Goat sex. MS is 99,99% spam free (besides blatant self promotion postings of course :p) and this is the reason for it. Sucks for some new members or members with very little posts only but most of the time, the postings are approved in less than one day and everybody goes through this phase.

^^ The upside of this is that we're the best run board on the net ;)

Re: James Holden

well ok that sounds nice :D ye i might sound abit as holdens pr manager BUT i am not! and cj tari, i dont know what idea u have of holden and if u ever read an interview or something. But the poor man hates minimal, he is just playing what he likes (and what i like :D). Dont know if u heard any recent sets but i think his mixing is pretty good (altough i prefer the records above the mixing skils) and u really cant compare holden to dubfire. But i guess most users on this boards are from usa right? And what are on the board the favorite djs of everyone? Ill just state mine aha: holden, garnier

we appreciate that you're promoting your client, but for me he was solid back between his "Fear of a Silver Planet (2001)" and "Balance 005 (2003)" releases, after that (from 2004) up until now I haven't really enjoyed anything he's done.
looks that its not danceble is totally crap, ive seen him 3 time and was dancing whole night long, ofcourse its abit different then just standard minimal dj.
Well if you bothered to comprehend what I tried to say, I gave up on him after his studio album. IMO he's moved in a direction I don't consider danceable, based on that album. I haven't really listenened to his live sets since. But I enjoyed that one DJ set I caught live about 4-6 yrs ago.

Not that difficult is it?

#1148737Post 94 of 115

Re: James Holden

never really got into him, at this particular moment I feel no need to see him again..

I tried to listen to all the big baller holden sets everyone pimps out there in the forums. (10 days off, 4 hr set @ spectrum etc)

just doesnt do it, and i love techno and techhouse, more focused on the deep.

and, I dont understand how Tari thinks so low of Damien.. i havnt heard any mixes that would give me that kind of opnion..

also, I dont think our mate that bumped teh thread actually works for Holden.. I read the statement as.... a sort of rough translation as

"hehe oops, I didnt mean to post the same thing 3 times, i really love holden.. and Ive been browsing for more sets.. it might sound like i come off as holdens PR manager.. (haha) but clearly just a fan of him"

For me he's an amazing producer that does some ok dj'ing on the back of his name.

His productions on the other hand are unique, timeless and darkly beautiful.

i'll find some links and pass them along...

off the top of my head.. all 5 of these mixes are great. the #5 in particular, more tech/deep stuff, but not too abstract like holden.

MATT TOLFREY: on The Standard rooftop in September was one of our musical highlights of 2008. Long a regular at Fabric, Matt's awesome blend of old school and "now" school house and techno. so much techno here: some local record labels (droidbehavior), LA dj's, berlin jetsetters, live mixes.., wherehouse spaces... a shitton of GREAT badass fucking techno http://www.droidbehavior.com/droidbehavior.xml

Re: James Holden

yeah that 4 years of Spectrum set got bumped pretty big on here and it did absolutely nothing for me. I would agree great producer but not a great DJ. Just my opinion to each his own.

#1148841Post 104 of 115

Re: James Holden

p.s. i'm happy to share mixes of what I love, i forgot to add.

what I posted, I'd consider tech-house/techno all around, while alot of the droid guys, play more detroit techno/real loopy percussive stuff.

you'll find alot of the artists i like are via berlin.. the droid/acid circus guys are all local tho. :)

#1149056Post 105 of 115

Re: James Holden

Speaking of percussive stuff. I've been listening to the first cd of Tenaglia's Futurism, and boy there are some futuristic tribally tracks in there.

Got ALL 11 parts of this video up on Megaupload and one from Sendspace.
