Re: James Holden

I remember the lanky kid Holden handing out flyers after Bedrock years ago, he's done well for himself imo, great producer, Balance 5 was amazing, his kiss mix was spot on, i'm no fan of electro but his mixing style is pushing the boundaries and i suspect in a years time the'll be alot of djs mixing like him.

Re: James Holden

Overall I thought his Kiss 100 mix was very good. Cool music and not bad mixing. I guess is just a matter of taste, no discussion ... I'm looking forward to hearing At the Controls

Re: James Holden

At the Controls is just another example of the kind of talent James Holden has... May not be the best DJ live, but his among the best producers/DJ in the studio, consistently releasing innovating and well crafted compilations and massive tracks. All my respect to the guy.

Re: James Holden

I saw him on Saturday night just past and he just doesn't really do it for me I'm afraid. He definitely plays some tracks that I like, and occasionally pulls out some great mixing but it just doesn't seem to engage me. Oh well, different strokes for different folks! :)

Re: James Holden

CD 2 just ok?

CD 2 is fucking phenomenal. Listened to it twice today actually.

I don't know. This guy is doing it for me right now. I'm sick of prog. Sick of the minimal shit. Sick of everything. I like being slapped in the face.

Someone hook me up with the kiss mix. :D I missed it somehow.

Been listening 2/3 times a day.

Re: James Holden

I've always been a fan of his productions and remixes, and I really like his style of dj'ing now. I love the sound he pushes and though it may not be completely danceable its still got a lot of energy to it. I love all the deep basslines and 'forward thinking' sounds alike.

Cant wait to see him in a few weeks!

i really like the darkest star and his other newer remixes but there all too clicky over and over really needs to switch it up 3time heard enough

Re: James Holden
it's always been old ;)
I?m sorry, but if his sound is old, please enlighten me to what you consider "new".

Really, you could just say you find it boring or whatever, but calling it "old" is laughable.

But don?t mind me I?ll probably be listening to free-form jazz in 5 years so what the fuck do I know...

now its 2 years later and anyone who doubted holden is just totally wrong:)

Re: James Holden

What a weird way to begin posting on here. Something that hasn't been talked about for 2 years.

It's kinda funny seeing this on here, cause last night I was watching his feature with Future Music and it was pretty cool hearing him speak about his music. But I would've enjoyed a ton more if he would have dug a bit deeper into it like Dave Spoon and D Ramirez did in their features.

I read the first few posts and couldn't stop reading. I love holden he always has some amazing shit.

i'm loading in my Future Music James Holden video to share with my fellow MS friends. I'm splitting it up in winrar because the video is 1 gig. But when I get it all done, you'll see the links here.

BTW, this video is from Feb of 2007.

Me too. Almost doesn´t sound like the same person either!

Re: James Holden

see this is a good thing :D is this an usa board by the way? i was just looking for really old holden sets because i could not found them anywere, but there still quite a few on this forum :) i just want to say that i have alot sets from 2004-2008 from holden and seen him live (and some other bc artists: fairmont/petter/avus/tobar!) 3 times this year. Its just pretty clear that he developed his style and didnt stay with one style like many dj, and for me its pretty clear that he is the best dj (maybe not in therms of technique) in the world. I was just abit pissed off because some people here stated he was a crappy dj (ofcourse that 4 years ago now:p).

#1148428Post 78 of 115

Re: James Holden

Gave up on Holden since The Idiots Are Winning. I think I started a rant on that in GYY back in the day. He was at his peak with his Silver Planet stuff, I dare say Solstice, I have put out the light, and even when he was on Border, A break in the clouds, they were quite unique and defining of the times when they were released. His Darkest Star remix was the last thing that blew my mind.

I'm sure he's talented, but IMO (which might not count for much given that I gave up on him after The Idiots) he's gone the way of IDM. Interesting, wouldn't mind checking it out, but not danceable and doesn't hold me.

So what has the Pixie been up to lately? Any sets worth checking out?

I did catch him DJ once at a bush doof. He played the morning set, extremely melodic and trippy, I was coming down from candyflipping and it was perfect. Maybe he's just too out of this world for me when I'm sober :what

#1148432Post 80 of 115

Re: James Holden

looks that its not danceble is totally crap, ive seen him 3 time and was dancing whole night long, ofcourse its abit different then just standard minimal dj. Lately (i have seen him at NYE this year) he is even becoming more danceble then all the sets from 2008 so u might wanna check him out again. What i also wanted to say is just that ever song holden plays is just simply amazing, and that really special for a dj too like. Like when i go see an other dj and he plays 1 song that holden also plays its mostly the best song in that djs set. If anyone here doenst know ricardo tobar u should do abit research on him too, best liveset in the world imo.
