George W Revives Reefer Madness

President Bush has ordered America's drug agencies to switch resources from fighting cocaine and heroin to marijuana, according to a report on this week's Observer.

"Unfortunately a lot of today's parents are under the impression marijuana is harmless and that their kids trying it is some kind of rite of passage," said US drug chief Jennifer de Vallance, explaining the surprising policy switch.

"Today's forms are much stronger and potentially more harmful," she claimed.

The latest Republican crackdown on spliff came two years after the Bush administration circulated a memo urging prosecutors to show no mercy to smokers, declaring "marijuana and violence are linked . . . no drug matches the threat posed by marijuana.

Pot smokers hoping for more rationality if Democratic Presidential John Kerry gets elected, however, are likely to be disappointed according to an alarming report published in Reason magazine last week.

"Anyone who thinks a vote for John Kerry means a vote for a more liberalized approach to drug policy should think again," warned Mike Krause and Dave Kopel from the respected US think tank the Independence Institute.

"Candidate Kerry's choice for Homeland Security Advisor, Rand Beers, is a seasoned drug warrior who has already shown his loyalty to the well being of the drug war, no matter how many lives it destroys, or how many narco- terrorists are enriched along the way," they revealed.

Bush isn't the only one, read the post again. Kerry would continue us down the same path.

I honestly believe that the candidates this election are the worst this country has seen, at least most certainly in my life time. Anyone who would say something so rediculous has obviously never smoked it. People who have opinions on something they know nothing about are soooo supremely naive. I wish the worst on both of these bastards.

i never said kerry wasnt an idiot

i just think bush is a bigger idiot

i dont care if weed is illegal, doesnt stop me ever having any problems finding it. :Who:

Ya, this is especially true in Colorado. And yes, anything would be more important then focusing on MJ.

#231115Post 10 of 50

i think this is really funny. there will always be crack cocaine and marijuana no matter how hard they try, but switchin resources from fightin cocaine and heroin to marijuana is jus stupid. coke and heroin do so much more harm

#231124Post 11 of 50

they're not concerned with marijuana abuse. they're worried about getting votes from the "Geriatrics of America" clubs. the old people in this country look at pot the same way they look at these other hard drugs: cocaine and heroin. they have no concept of the good marijuana could do medicinally. nor do they care to hear these good possibities. bush and kerry are both former partiers and merely seeking the votes. thats all this war on drugs is about in the first place. its a HUGE waste of tax payer dollars too. it's getting them nowhere.

I have no religious inclination whatsoever but I know George Dubya is fond of the good book. Maybe he should read it again.

Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Genesis 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Psalms104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

Psalms104:15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

and in the timeless words of Mr Bill Hicks:

And on the seventh day, god stepped back and said "There is my creation, perfect in every way... oh, dammit I left pot all over the place. Now they'll think I want them to smoke it... Now I have to create republicans."

Re:: "marijuana and violence are linked"

the idiots in the government who say that pot and violence are linked should be fired.

what's sad about kerry and bush both are that they both probably have smoked dope in their lifetimes. and we're pretty sure that bush snorted cocaine. quite hyporcritical to go after pot smokers real hard if you know the real effects and have done it yourself.

How many times do you go out on the town and see a bunch of fellas brawling late at night due to drinking too much? Loads! How many times do we hear of domestic violence caused by drinking.. loads! Now get all the same guys stoned and what would you have? I think ill let you answer that question because it`s too damn obvious.

Potheads are Not Hotheads: Portugal Temporarily Lifts Marijuana Restrictions for Soccer Tourney

Fans attending the Euro 2004 soccer tournament, now taking place in Portugal, are being treated to relaxed enforcement of the country's marijuana laws. Instead, Portuguese police are focusing their resources on preventing terrorism and combating soccer hooliganism.

The nation's leading law enforcement authorities have concluded that leaving marijuana smokers alone will help achieve both these objectives. The calming effect of smoking marijuana makes fans less likely to fight, while ignoring marijuana use allows police to focus more resources on preventing real crime - such as a terrorist attack.

Portuguese authorities concluded the former after consulting with their cannabis-friendly Dutch counterparts, who faced little hooliganism during Euro 2000, which took place in the Netherlands.

"We have to use common sense," Isabel Canelas, a spokeswoman for the Portuguese police, told London's Guardian. "If people are smoking but not kicking each other, not beating each other, and not making a problem, why on earth would an officer go and ask 'Is that cannabis?'"

Right on :Bingo:

Re:: "marijuana and violence are linked"

Only one thing is certain about the great marijuana debate: whether you are a prohibition-mad politician, or a stoned ex-hippy who would like to dish out the drug for free, you are likely to have a lot more opinions than facts.

Scientists report that: "cannabis can relieve the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. The conclusions have been reinforced by results from the world's largest ever trial of the medicinal effects of the drug"

And if you belong to the group of people who believe that marijuana damages your brain cells and reduces memory or concentration maybe you should also consider the vast number of brain cells you have and think that even if you destroy more than 4000 brain cells per day there is still hope to win a nobel prise..but anyway humans at list so far have managed to use only the 1/10 of their brain..what about the rest??

Self control always is for benefit..
The Observer is a piece of shit news paper for one, it isnt a creditable source from any stand point.
Would you like to expand any further on this? Why the Observer (which was on the British Press Award's shortlist for newspaper of the year) isn't a creditable source? Or is it just a lame comment... :?:

And this is interesting too:

"The effective strength of cannabis consumed in Britain has remained stable for the past 30 years, according to a European Union study published today. The research says there is no evidence for claims that most cannabis consumed in Britain and the rest of Europe is now 10 times or more stronger than it was in the 70s."

marijuana and violence are heavily linked.... but not in the sence that the US government seems to think. illegal drug trade and the huge profits to be made from it definitly links marijuana to violence but at a much higher level - dealers, smugglers and growers. the solution? decriminalisation and regulation. remove the blackmarket profit and criminal element to large scale production and distribution and you remove the associated violence (and in the meantime create a fantastic taxable revenue stream for the government and at the same time save billions of wasted public funds spent on policing).

can't see it happening in the states though.

#231417Post 33 of 50

whether or not pot causes violence is moot. the stupidity of bush's new policy is that he wants to devote resources already allocated to more serious drugs to the fight against pot, specifically.
we can all argue that pot doesn't cause violence. but more importantly, we all know other drugs do. ask jibgolly. :Hmmm:

Yeah, all the pot heads I know are extremely violent people...

NOT!!!

I don't know why people don't use their resources to fight real crimes.

:Bingo: I couldn't agree with this more. This is what my government(south african) need to wake up and realise, we are one of the biggest producers of weed in the world with a high percentage of users amongst our population, they could seriously solve a few of our problems by taking this route.

well said, completely agree

unfortunately i feel the same way about it NOT happening here.. seems like they've spent so long "fighting" it, how can they legalize it now? i say canada invades

Re:: "marijuana and violence are linked"

well, this is post number 420 for me and what better thread to post it on than this one...

I think this argument over weed and violence is absolutely stupid. Musical Journey has an excellent point about people that are drunk being more hot heads than people that have been "chatting with Mary". I personally think there is too much money in the fines for nailing people for possession of weed for it to ever be legalised. Taking the black market and criminal element out of it will take away alot of money this and many other countries depend on.

#231697Post 40 of 50

Re:: "marijuana and violence are linked"

this is stupid, i smoke weed everyday, and if anything it keeps me from acting out violently. weed is the reason i am not violent. once i get high i am not as pissed as i might have been before i was stoned.

did they ask for pot head input, no! these people that come up with this shite, probally never even seen pot, let alone smoked.

Don't pass judgement if you don't know shit. :FuckOff:

Damn, WHY IS AMERICA SO FUCKIN STUPID? ANYBODY?
