what are your thoughts on this guy?

i'd only heard of him a few times before i saw him live last year. He's decent, i wasnt too sure how his mixing was, but his track selection was decent at best. I was chatting w/ some guys in the club that drove like 5 hours to see this guy. pretty ridiculous imo. I ended up leaving about midway (???) through his set. overall ill rate him 6/10. <---- and thats being very generous.

Re: jimmy van m...

best warmup style dj on the planet. some of the witchery i witnessed him create before s&d were taking over, was amazing. the man can build the tension early in the night like no other.

as far as his peak time mixes, i'm not too sure i've ever heard one that made my pants move.

now mix cd's... bedrock cd 1 was ingenious! cd 2 was also enjoyable. i would really have loved to see this guy do a Nubreed mix or flat out GU mix back when GU was in its hayday. but i suspect he'll release his own compilation within the next 6 years.

bottom line = i'd go see him if he came to town.

Anyone know his track - THE CPR ?

I fuckin LOVE it, got the vinyl in london in 2000 and have never heard it played out, and its Yum

Re: jimmy van m...

He is a genius when it comes to music IMO! I have to agree with jibs that he is the absolute best guy in the world to build a set for S & D. Mixing is usually flawless. I had a chance to see him headline once at Firestone back in the day when Sasha canceled and he f*cking ripped it up!!! I was pissed that sasha canceled because it was going to be my first time hearing him, but Jimmy made me forget all about seeing sasha for that night. He just dropped non-stop bad ass tracks one after another.

yeah, his bedrock cd's were incredible, i wish he would put out more stuff, but isn't he more on the administrative side of The Collective Agency?

Re: jimmy van m...

aside from his dj skills, he also runs TCA - The Collective Agency (http://www.thecollectiveagency.com) which has prolly the most phenomenal roster of djs ever.

Re: jimmy van m...

Here is what i have to say about this topic.

The 1st time i got a set from JVM was Jimmy Van M - Live @ Kristal Club, Bucharest - jan. 16, 2004

That was enough for me i became a fan since then i only managed to get maybe 10 sets but i will keep them. You can have a sample he played in may 2004 in buenos aires and Spiker ripped it - I will not post it on the main promo page but you can have it here: Jimmy Van M - Camel Genuine Sound @ Pacha - may. 24, 2004 - part 1 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WE9ZHNOH Jimmy Van M - Camel Genuine Sound @ Pacha - may. 24, 2004 - part 2 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2B7SUHKX

Simply an amazing house set maybe this will help you make up your mind about him.

enjoy.

Re: jimmy van m...

He's the best warmup DJ there is. I've seen him open for Sasha and/or Digweed a few times and was impressed each time. His headline sets are okay, but I'll always remember his warmup sets.

He owns it...and is making about 20% cut from all the bookings...

Re: jimmy van m...

I've heard from many people that he is and was the brains behind Delta Heavy. Top notch DJ and probably my favorite over anyone. You never know what you are going to hear from him and he never disappoints. Can you imagine the pressure he is under just about every time he plays? opening for Sasha or Digweed? and you never hear anything bad about his music!

Ultrafest @ WMC 2001, Twilo tent, was pretty much under that tent all day. again, same situation jimmy warming up for john at 5pm in the early evening and absolutely wrecking it something proper. 8) that tent was filled to the brims and further... amazing, AMAZING day. *sasha was absent due to ear problem. this was the first gig or two he missed due to that, i remember being there and he never showed up. at that point we didnt know why yet. kinda sucked.
