Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

The last couple of live sets I've heard (Annie, and Southfest) have been amazing. He hasn't lost a step musically. Taking the focus off the DJ is a good thing IMO. You know people like Tiesto only get away with their substandard skills because their shows are more about their rock star status than playing innovative, exciting music.

like i said stay home and listen to GU13 again, too many people in the club anyway. his live sets are only getting better and more personalized. sasha still interacts with the crowd. he was clapping along and smiling whenever the crowd was eggin him on at his last nyc show. ya'all's a bunch o drama queens... dear sasha, you've hurt me for the last time.... blah blah blah.... if i were him i would be laughin at you.

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

I have not seen Sasha play since the early nineties (AAHZ), with that being said, I do however listen to the sets that are posted. I have never really been a Sasha fan or a Digweed fan, more like a Fortier fan. But I view all 3 of them in the same light, they push the boundaries further and further. One time I talked to Chris many years ago he was selling a whole bunch of records, and I asked him why? He said to be a dj you've got to progress with it. Which just summed it up for me about him. Whether you live for those old times or the new, they really haven't changed, the music has, and so has the taste for music. So I say, let Sasha do his thing, he is pushing envelopes just like the rest of the dj's out there. As far as the computer goes, well I like to watch the dj manipulate the mix, whether it be vinyl or cd, you never know what you might learn from some of them....
Those were the days....
"the days" were way before Northern Exposure was released imo, don't want to sound like an old fart but nothing will ever come close to Sasha at Renaissance circa 1992

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

^^^ oh great aged one, you wouldn't happen to have any live sets from way back in '92. i don't think i have heard much before '98 or so. perhaps a full retrospect of sasha's sets and dj career could help add perspective to your well stated arguement. i'm sure that if sasha was still playing the same sets as back in the early 90's you would have stopped listening to him a long time ago. gotta change with the times.

dude, i have loads of old Sasha sets going back to '89, i converted my whole tape collection to .mp3, hit me up if you would be interested ;) But you are right, if he was still playing the same sets i would have been bored long ago, i might be biased, but whatever Sasha has done over the years i have pretty much been well into. :)

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

I'm from a different school when it comes to going to clubs. Pardon me for asking but surely you go to hear good music and dance no? That's what I go for, I only look in the direction of the dj as that is what everyone else does, I don't specifically try to get a spot where I can watch the dj. that's just pointless. DJ's are only the conduit for the music.

I say you have to question what you are going out for if it's to stand there watching another male play with a pc when all around you there are fit birds, people having fun and quality music is blasting out of the speakers

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

to add to this discussion, rather than just beat up on each other...

I find his music to be constantly evolving (aside from that repetitive lull around 2002-early 2004). He's gotten into a software that allows him to be a producer on the fly. He could take every track and just chop it up however he sees fit. When I first heard him play with ableton (fall-2004), he still seemed to be finding his way around it. Now he's found his mark and is superb in his on the fly remixing, but has yet to find that flow of the classic Sasha epic journey that moves you in waves throughout a night. One thing at a time. From what I heard last week at Crobar NYC last week, it was the most melodic and journey-like set I'd heard from him in a while (granted it got a bit choppy later on). I'm more than willing to give the man like some more time to find that zone again and in the meantime, even his not "up to par/expectations" sets will wipe just about every other djs sets away.

Is it possible for a set that falls short of (grandiose) expectations to still be a great set?! :NotMe:

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

just a thought...sorry to chime in a few weeks late (finally got a new labtop). i was at the set in dc. how many of you that are pissed about the negative comments/review or lack there of WERE ACTUALLY THERE? it amazes me how many people want to bash this humorous review who have no idea what records sasha played or the vibe (lack of) he created in the club. i've probably heard sasha a very small percentage of what many of you have. but i've heard him enough to know when he plays a boring set. dc at glow/fur was a bad set. someone else said it perfect. he's not perfect and will not be on every night. no dj will. everyone realizes this, however when it happens, it's still disappointing. to end on a positive note...desyn masiello (sp) at five in dc the night before sasha was much more entertaining and enjoyable. sasha i still have faith in you. see you in miami!!!

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

I think that if a dj play progressive is beacuse he likes that and will keep playing that sytle. But for me electro is not the evolution of the progressive. I dont find the elements of progressive mixed on this style, a very violent style without the tunes and melodies which chraracterizer progressive.... I saw him not too long ago and I really enjoyed the set specially his mixes which are awesome but I found it a little boring with all that violence, no fall as He played on southfest B.A. which was the best night of my whole life alongside one with cattaneo. cheers.

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

sweet jesus, mother of god people! cut the bs. sasha is the best dj - no one is even close. maybe not everyone likes his music style - but he definitely deserves credit just because he always pushes the envelope. and that's what makes him so special. and for those who don't like laptop/ableton whatever comp djing: it is output what counts - not input. period.

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

how long has he been on stage by now for? I dont really know any other who can stay in headlines for so long. Both good and bad opinions, fans and haters, makes him a big one. I just wonder how longer can he stay like that :). That's gonna be the longest dj career....

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

sometimes he´s good sometimes bad, like EVERY other dj or top dj, nothing unusual, i heard crappy sets of every dj i know, even jd,hernan etc.

Re: Dear Sasha, (review 2/4/06 DC)

Kind of funny, I used to feel this way about Sasha over the last 3 years, but during the last year or so - he has picked it up and I've started to like him again.

I saw him here in Denver on February 17th, and will see him again in April and again in June. There are very few DJs that come out here that often, hell even James Zabiela was here at the beginning of the month - for two weeks in a row. He blew me away as I was never the biggest Zabiela fan either. I can only hope Lee Burridge does the same in 3 days.
