Ex-Ecstasy Clubbers Fuel UK Cocaine Craze

A new report of UK drug use published this week has claimed that clubbers switching from ecstasy to cocaine are behind the threefold increase in cocaine use that's occurred over the last 7 years.

"Cocaine is seen as preferable to amphetamine for clubbers because the effects following cocaine use, and their duration, are more controllable," the NHS study suggested, adding that poorer quality ecstasy has influenced drug users' tastes (Independent).

The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, cited 'changing fashions in music and clubbing' as a key factor, suggesting "as the price of cocaine has fallen, clubbers have turned to the drug, perceived as being 'cleaner' and more sophisticated (than E)."

Doctors involved in the report warned that Britain is facing a 'cocaine epidemic' with many people also now also dabbling with crack.

"At least one in ten people who use cocaine will go on to become compulsive users," the Standard said.

"(Using) it significantly increases the risk of convulsions, brain damage, strokes, heart attacks and serious mental illness, including schizophrenia."

you look at a schizo's brain and an amph user's brain through a brain imaging scan, you'll see how uncanny the brain structure is in terms of the two relating to each other....tis creepy.

ya, if you are using it regularly. semirecreational use is relatively safe, but they'd never admit that, cause that would go against the drug war.

semirecreational use will almost always lead to regular use ... Not today ... not tomorow ... but with time youll want more and more ... and youll say ... Aaaah wtf ... there`s no way I can become addicted ... let me have some more ... And all this because once your body gets used to it ... you will need more and more and more ... and more ...

Re:: Ex-Ecstasy Clubbers Fuel UK Cocaine Craze

This is a trend I?ve also been seeing in the last year or so here in Portugal, and even among some of the people I personally know.

They just got "bored" with E, and went on to coke.

I myself admit that my last experience with drugs was also with cocaine, after taking E?s regularly for some years. This happened in Spain last December, and from what I could see, the same thing has been going on there for a few years now...people just switching from Ecstacy to charlie.

Re:: Ex-Ecstasy Clubbers Fuel UK Cocaine Craze

I think it also has to do with the demographics. In 96 when E first became huge in the UK we were all in our teenage years, and frankly skint. 8 years on these same clubbers have a much larger desposible income, and considering the quality of the average UK tablet, Charlie is the next logical step. I was also really suffering on the comedowns, i?m sure they get worse the older i get. Being fcuked up for a few days for one nights pleasure is also not my idea of fun! I really am not keen on stuffing myself with 5\6 dodgy pills while i could be flying on a little coke.

#224424Post 28 of 86

Back in the day (four or five years ago) I used to take E all the time and was essentially my drug of choice. Since then though, I haven't taken one and to be honest don't miss it at all. My question though is - why is good E hard to come by now adays? What makes it so different compared to years passed that it sucks? I know there are bad batches and all, but to make it sound so previntly bad is weird. Just curious.

Although there is a lot lot weak diluted shit around nowadays with everyone trying to make a quick buck i also think your body has built up a tolerance to pills and it takes more than just one to give you the same hit you used to get back in the old days. i know this is the case for me. i used to buy one single tablet and rock my socks off all night but that just doesn`t happen any more..... . unfortunatley
Now they are ten a penny and absolute rubbish... again.. unfortunatley

no man, anyone with some will power can use it and be ok. its very possible. just set limits, do it a few times a year and thats it. the article itself says only 1 in 10 who try it get hooked (when you compare that to something like booze or smokes, its a pretty low figure).

A friend of mine who works for a local drug harm reduction group told me that the human brain needed 6-8 weeks to fully "recover" from one night's "extensive" use of pills. Even if you take more pills, you don't get the same feeling and the same "energy", because you don't have enough neuro-transmitters (or sth.). So, technically speaking one should have at least a 6 week break after the using pills once and I know I almost never took a break that long. :Nice:
No need to appologize for falling in love and getting your life in order. :Bingo:
Well thanks, but my life was never really out of order. All that overblown stuff you see in the "just tell your friends/family you were smoking pot, they'll understand" commercials never happened to me. I never lost a job, never robbed anyone, never caused anyone's death. I probably spend way too much time watching cartoon network, but that's about the only bad thing that happened to me. I guess I'm not a very good example of why not to do drugs.
dump her and get another one. seriously. i couldnt be with a girl, if she thought smoking weed was a "drug habit" just couldnt do it. i dont smoke cigarettes, and if i were going to, i would have started by now. i consider weed to be my 'cigarettes' so in my head, its a justified "drug habit"

Let me clarify "frowns upon it." She used to smoke more than I did, but not anymore for her own reasons. Neither us of consider it a "drug habit" and there was never a point when she gave me an ultamadem or anything like that. Despite what I may have implied, I decided this on my own accord (I just use her as justification.) I know that sounds pretty weak, but you can think what you like. And I don't judge anyone so bake away :)
