So I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow. On Nov 2nd I'm going to an oral sugeon's office, getting knocked out, and having all 4 wisdom teeth removed. My bottom two are growing horizontally, so he needs to cut down to them and cut them out in pieces. I can't wait...

My throat has been sore the past few days, too. Hopefully he doesn't tell me I have to wait before having my teeth removed because of it... I can imagine him telling me we should wait in case it gets infected or some shit, but we'll see. I already have 4 days scheduled off of work, plus I don't want to be the only person not stuffing my face on Thanksgiving! I'm ready to put this shit behind me.

I'm getting braces, too. My insurance doesn't cover it, so it looks like I'll be paying $4500 to get them. I really don't want them, but I need them. I guess I want them more than I don't, if that makes any sense.

Oh yeah. Harley escaped again yesterday while my roommate was home. I came home after about 7 hours of being gone and Harley was nowhere to be found. I was outside calling his name for 10 minutes before I finally heard a meow... played another classic game of marco polo for a few minutes and I found him hiding behind my neighbor's bushes, too scared to come to me. I crawled into the bushes a bit to grab him, and once he got inside he started going crazy for food. That's Harley for yas.

I moved 6 floors up at work this weekend. it's a big step going from having only 7 coworkers on my entire floor with my monitor facing the opposite way of the entrance, throwing sharp/pointy/deadly objects, etc. Now we have like 50 people on this floor, I'm on the same floor as my boss, and my computer screen can now be (partially) seen from the hall... less nsfw-ms'ing for me. more work, I guess.

i'm out. need to buy lots of mashed potatoes and applesauce.

Re: Wisdom teeth

Re: Wisdom teeth

i have all mine removed, and of course was knocked out as part of the process. it was the only time i was ever put under so i too was a little worried. overall the experience wasn't that bad. as i was put under the oral surgeon was playing hotel california and asking me goofy questions. woke up and was out of it with a mouth full of cotton. took the painkillers as needed, but never really felt like i needed them.

don't worry too much and focus on getting your throat better and getting the whole thing over with.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had a rather unusual experience when I was having mine out. The surgeon removed the top one on the right side and then he proceeded to the bottom tooth. He started to remove it like normal, then he got this really weird look on his face. The best that I could I asked him what was wrong. He said that I actually had 2 wisdom teeth, one on top of another! So, instead of easily pulling the first one, he proceeded to break it into small pieces. even with the Novocaine that FUCKIN' HURT!! He did that for the other one underneath too. To this day thinking about it still gives me pain where the teeth used to be.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had two wisdom teeth pulled about 2 years ago. At that same time I had two canines pulled that had grown in above my top row of teeth. They were kinda cool actually, like fangs. I really didn't wont them pulled but the dentist was my girlfriend's dad, and he pulled them anyway. They would have eventually caused problems. I kept the fangs after they were pulled. They were over an inch long!

I hear about these pussies laying in bed for days eating icecream. I was at work the next day moving furniture. Fags!

Re: Wisdom teeth

I remember when I had my wisdom teeth pulled... After waking up from surgery I could hardly comprehend anything. I just remember going home and pulling the gauze out of my mouth before I was going to take a nap. Pools of blood just started coming out of my mouth. I was like "What the fuck?" I then had to watch in torture as all my friends could eat solid food while I just had a diet of liquid foods. I had to later abandon my pain killers because they were starting to impede my ability to drive. To top it off I had a small case of dry socket. Dry socket hurts like a mofo. All in all I'm glad it's done with now.

Re: Wisdom teeth

had my 2 bottom ones removed about 5 years ago. right up til i had those removed i was dealing with some serious pain. the morning i woke up and had it done i was in near crying pain. i couldnt close my mouth or anything cos it was so swolen. my upper wisdoms have come in so far thay they've actually broken pieces of my teeth in the back. not good. a word of advice for you young nippers out there. if you go to have your wisdom teeth removed, do them all at the same time. its worth whatever money you spend. trust me.

I just spent $30 on puddings, jellos, mashed potatoes, ice creams, soups, etc. I have 6 days off of work starting tomorrow, and I'm not leaving my house once

Re: Wisdom teeth

Here's to waking up to a swollen mouth!

I took all four out as well. That was the first time I went under. That's the first and only time I've ever been operated on too! Waking up was surprisingly less painful than I expected.

I remember walking to HMV after, and buying Oakenfold's GU7 New York. Shit that was a long time ago

Re: Wisdom teeth
He said that I actually had 2 wisdom teeth, one on top of another!
I had mine pulled at different times all in the dentists chair, compared to all your stories, they were pretty easy to get out.

About 6 months after the fourth one was pulled i started to get pain on my upper left side. I returned to the dentist where he informed me that another wisdom tooth was cutting through the gums - I'd never heard of anyone else having 5 until now! :D

Hope the pain don't incapacitate you too much picklemonkey

my dad's a dentist...had 'em out at 16. was up and eating solid food a day later.

Re: Wisdom teeth

i never had them out, however i had significant oral surgery when i had braces as a teenager....if you can try to get just a local anethesia...that way you aren't such a mess for the rest of the day....pain killers will do the job afterwards....as far as the sore throat...the dr. probably won't opt out of doing the surgery unless it is really bad...he will probably start you on a course of antibiotics if he has any concerns....

good luck

Re: Wisdom teeth

Momma said I had a big mouth, so far they are just growing in fine. I don't have any dental or health so I am not even having them looked at.

Re: Wisdom teeth

^are you sure? mine don't hurt or anything... but looking at the xray shows I definitely need to take care of this shit asap

#504422Post 17 of 72

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had all 4 of mine removed over the summer, it hurt a bit, but i was way to fucked up on painkiller (vicodin) to notice. Only good thing about getting them removed is they hook you up with lots of pills.

#504430Post 18 of 72

Re: Wisdom teeth

Yeah I had all mine pulled when I was 17 or 18, all four of them were really impacted. The first few days were ok then I started smoking again and trying to eat normal food and got dry sockets. Those were a motherfucker. My mouth hurt for a good week and half. It was like a throbbing pain but thinking back it was just more uncomfortable than real pain. Definitely got some refills on the vics though. Make sure you get more pills than you need because they are a good time once the pain subsides. All in all the pills made it worth it.

Re: Wisdom teeth

i'm a dentist so here's my thoughts wisdom teeth have verry little value in our manducation, and they often erupt in malpositioned, mostly because they dont have space to erupt this happends because, centuries ago, people use to eat more solid uncooked food, wich is good for teeh, but these days, everybody eats fast-food, mostly cooked food and the jaws adapt to the new nutrition and there's no need for that much teeth a mature person should have 32 teeth teoreticly, but for what we need them, we should have 24 teeth, all the 4 molars of wisdom and the lateral incisors dont really participate to manducation and often erupt not in the right position wisdom teeth are removed if they dont erup corectly, but if they are well positioned, they are kept, but still, they are the most exposed to cavities and as protetics, they have the lowest value so only in exeptional situations are used to dental bridges it leaves to the judgement of the dentist picklemonkey , i'm sure your dentist will tell you, after you remove those teeth, dont eat milk based food such as pudincs, icecream and warm stuff and because it afects you blood coagulation smoking and chewing gum is not indicated too, because by sucking air out of you mouth you may remove the clot from the extraction place and you will have healing complications there this regim should be kept for 24-48 hours, then you can go for the icecream and smoking :D fom my experience, you'll feel some pain the next days after they are removed, and you need to take antiobiotics so you dont develope an infection there and some pain relief pills visit the doctor the next days for the doctor to see the healing process goes well hope you'll have a pain free removal and i'm sure you'll be ok good luck :)

Re: Wisdom teeth

it took me two days to recover after having all four of mine removed. if the doc does the operation like he should, you'll be moving around lie normal in no time. good luck.

Re: Wisdom teeth

I still got mine, and some of them are mildly impacting, one is coming in sideways, but it doesn't bother me so I'm going to sit it out and see what happens. Worst case senario I just end up getting the out anyway, right? If my teeth start to crowd then I'll consider it. I don't trust the oral sergon, he gets paid by the tooth. If I go to the nut kicker and he says I need 3 swift ones, should I do that too?

Anyway, good luck Pickle

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had three of mine removed. I was knocked out for the entire procedure. After it was said and done, it really wasn't that bad. I was eating solid food that same day and I didn't swell at all.

Re: Wisdom teeth

Having my teeth pulled was AWESOME. I was giving shots and nitrous oxide. Good times. First thing I said when I came to, "That was sweet, can I have some more teeth pulled?"

#504629Post 29 of 72

Re: Wisdom teeth

got mine all out in one swoop at the oral surgeon's...nitrous, dizzy, blackness, dizzy, vomit, mild hangover and odd swollen mouth... no problem, then there's the question of water-picking the open wounds to keep them clean, no big deal but if you don't do it it does not have the best effect on breath

my brother, otoh got his out on the local military base where we lived. he was wide awake the whole time with a pair of grunts joking and proding in his mouth, laughing and commenting on how loud his teeth were when they cracked. oral surgeon's the way to go...

Re: Wisdom teeth

I sorta lucked out in that I only had 2 wisdom teeth....however they were growing in horizontal. They had to cut open my gum, break up the tooth then remove it.

Fuggin nasty.

Just pray you dont get dry sockets, i hear they are a bitch!

And good luck !! 8)

Re: Wisdom teeth

I had my top two removed last year because of the way they had grown i was biting chunks out of my cheeks everynow and then . Dentist was a rough assed butcher, local anesthetic no pain killers and left sharp pieces still sticking out that i couldn't notice till the anesthetic had worn off .. Also my first pint of the day spilled right down chin and tasted of blood . Felt shitty for two days aswell BUT i no longer bite chunks out of my cheeks and it knocks 10 secs off the time it takes to brush my teeth . :)
